good sushi – I've eaten here many times. The service is usually very good and the sushi excellent. The portions here have always been big.
My most recent trip there was a little disappointing, as the chefs were out of several of my favorite fish and had to substitute. I forget the name of my favorite roll, but it has pickled radish and squash in it and roe on top. Sounds weird but the textures work well together. I didn't see in on the menu on my last visit and I hope it is there when I go back. So, instead I tried the volcano roll. Not what I expected. The thing was brought to the table literally in flames. I guess we should have suspected that from the name. Anyway, It had a weird melted cheese and imitation crab topping. My husband and I likened it to a mac and cheese like taste. Weird. When I go to a sushi place, I like my fish raw, so that was a bad choice on our part. But if you know someone trying sushi for the first time then it might be a campy thing for them to try.
Great Sushi, <3 Nori! – Great Sushi! Awesome atmosphere! And chef Nori is the best! Fun to watch and nice as can be! The Morning roll is FREAKING AMAZING! A bit pricey for the specialty rolls, but TOTALLY worth it! Hot Sake and good sushi=a GREAT time!
User review by maymay27 – I really enjoyed the sushi. The service was excellent, and the restaurant itself was beautiful.
Too expensive – They didn't seem to have enough help for the Sushi bar and the cost well outweighed the quality.
James OH – James Oh is a brilliant artist and his creativity with sushi is unsurpassible!!
Sheffield – Absolutely the best sushi in Albuquerque. Chef James is a master. The staff members are considerate and efficient. The food is fresh and artfully plated. The sushi bar is immaculate.
With serious sushi and lively teppan yaki tables, Samurai will please both die-hard sushi fans and their squeamish friends. – The Scene
Rice-paper screens and a wooden bridge spanning a tiny, trickling stream divide this large restaurant into two separate, smaller dining areas. The family-oriented teppan yaki grill room is lively, while the sushi bar tends to be quieter and feel more serious.
Although slightly expensive by Albuquerque standards, Samurai's talented chefs serve the freshest, most carefully prepared sushi and sashimi in town. Sushi too challenging? The teppan chefs provide a good show, complete with egg-flipping and other antics, and a tasty meal of grilled meat or shrimp with fried rice. Service can be sluggish, but the high-quality grub is good enough to warrant the wait.
Dish to Die For
Don't miss the "Hungry Roll" with fried soft-shell crab, "krab", avocado, smoked eel, caviar and special sauce.
Great Food! – I was visiting Albuquerque from San Francisco and was pleasently impressed with Samurai's teppan yaki. The chef was entertaining and the service was great. I would recommend a visit for locals and visitors.
