with a slogan like "its good 'nuff", how did I not know to keep driving – Ive heard really good things about this place, though it was only until AFTER I ate there that people said "yeah, it was great....10 or 20 years ago." Perhaps that coincided with the last time they washed the vinyl tablecloths....Anyhow, onto the food. The three of us all ordered similar stuff. I had the open faced sliced beef sandwich with mashed potatoes. I didnt think it was possible to have meat that was more fat than meat, but somehow at Mr. Powdrells they have accomplished this feat. (no small one I might add) However it was not only the beef that was like this, but the pork of my fellow inmates as well. Consistency, they teach, is the key, and perhaps thats what they were going for here. I expected the potatoes to be from a powder mix and I was not to be disappointed, the gravy that covered it was of the same variety, but my wife pondered at the possibilty that the cole slaw may have come out of a can, something that we had never considered the existence of. In that sense Mr. Powdrell is a pioneer. Anyhow, the burned cornbread pancakes tatsed like, well, burned cornbread pancakes. I must say that my Texas toast was the highlight of my meal, once I cleared the soggy chunks of beef fat away from it I enjoyed it thoroughly. One of the girls came out to collect trash from another table and on the back of her shirt it said "Mr. Powdrells: it's good 'nuff" And then in the back of my mind I pictured him; Mr. Powdrell, looking at the slop he was serving and someone (a cook maybe?) suggesting that perhaps he should use better meat or ingredients and Mr Powdrell looking over at him with a tired glance and saying "its good 'nuff"

In the parking lot I stuck my finger down my throat and felt much better once my meal was on the pavement. Then we got in the car and drove far away.
