so i don't know what it takes to get a "five star" hotel rating, but this place had everything i expected and was even nicer than i expected. i would definitely stay there again.
before i mention the room, let's talk location. it is super important to me when i'm traveling to be close to downtown. this place was an easy, beautiful, 10 min walk from the Plaza in downtown. if you don't want to walk, the hotel provides a FREE shuttle in a 2-mi radius, which is really all you need.
now for the hotel itself:
i got a 2-queen non-smoking room with a AAA discount for $88. the place seemed to be newly-remodeled, was nicely furnished, clean, and had lots of details right. the towels were folded with fancy fan shapes and make-up remover pads tucked in the top. nice touch. the lobby was also beautiful and had two large rooms of tables for the continental breakfast (plenty of choices: granola, yogurt, pancakes, waffles, cereal, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, 3 juices, milk, etc.) and patio seating too. the pool area, though small, was also very nice.
my only caution is, as this was an old Budget Inn (according to my out-of-date guidebook) this is an L-shaped motel-style place. this means your door goes directly outside, not into a hallway. the door was very solid, so it didn't bother me a bit.
The biggest surprise was a listing of restaurants to visit, events to attend and a shuttle should we need one!
I would stay here again as it is close to downtown and I walked everywhere. Good value for the money.
I recently stayed at Santa Fe Sage Inn for two nights. I had been at the plaza all day and had looked at some of the hotels there. As I drove out of the plaza I found this hotel. I didn't have a reservation and was able to get a room. The staff was very nice and had some good recommendations for restaurants. Room was clean, a little dated (no flat screen t.v.'s), and the wifi worked well. I had breakfast at the hotel one day (it was ok, bagel, muffin, cereal type) and the other morning, the front desk staff gave me a recommendation of the Pantry (yum!). All in all, the hotel was very nice, extremely reasonably priced, and the front desk staff was very friendly. I will definetly be back!
