Howard Johnson's is amazing. If I lived in Lake Placid I would go there all the time. Went here the last two days of my vacation and enjoyed the place so much. Food Bar is so good and costs not even $10 for an unlimited amount of food. It is a shame there are only two Howard Johnson's remaining.
Last time I was there it was good. I enjoy the retro feel and menu. Ice cream is still first- rare. Better than Ben & Jerry's for sure.
We found it hard to resist stopping here to have breakfast -- it's one of two HoJo restaurants left in the US. Service was exceptionally friendly, and food was delicious.
Traveled back to Lake Placid again because I needed a Hojo's fix. Everything was just the same after three years, which was fine with me. Three days of breakfast and dinner was a treat. Howard Johnson's specialty was and still is their breakfast. The menu is big, with many unusual items. I had raisin bread French toast, which was fantastic. My partner had the Hojo classic; large English muffin cover with a thick layer of corned beef, a fried egg, and topped with cheese. Delicious! Your toast always comes buttered, saving what is sometimes an aggravating step. Their fresh fruit cup is one of the best that I have ever had. They still have the breakfast bar, but only on Sundays. The Food Bar is open for dinner and was fine. We both made nice salads and they have a good selection of toppings. There is also a selection of hot food on the bar. The dinner menu is also extensive. I had to have the fried clams, which were even better that I had remembered! The next dinner was Friday evening, so of course it was Fish Fry night. Yummy. There are many deserts, and I highly recommend the carrot cake. The have fresh pies and local organic ice cream, which was delicious. The service was excellent. The waitress were friendly and checked on you often. Mr. Butler is the nicest guy and certainly knows how to manage a restaurant. This restaurant is all about comfort food, and is not the place to go if you are on a diet or are a picky eater. But for the rest of us, it is just fine.
Very good breakfast - off the menu or all you can eat buffet. The eggs and blueberry pancakes are great. The service is good. The management is pleasant. On a recent three day visit to Lake Placid we at breakfast at Ho Jo's three times.
This past weekend in Ocala, FL I was able to step back in time, as I stayed at a Howard Johnson hotel that has an onsite small scale Howard Johnson restaurant. This was the first time I had eaten at a Howard Johnson restaurant since 1985. And I must say it was pretty cool seeing the words Howard Johnson and restaurant in the same sentence. Interestingly enough the brand still has strong recognition. As my girlfriend and I had a late night soft serve sundae (sad to say there is no Howard Johnson’s brand ice cream available) we were surrounded by patrons who recanted their fond memories of Howard Johnson's restaurants. If Wyndham infused some support into this, I really believe the restaurants would thrive.
Jarod is an awesome salesperson I will definitely come back to him if I ever need another vehicle. A very good salesman was glad to know him as a person.
I think there's only 2 Howard Johnson Restaurants left in the country. Service was very good, our waitress was very friendly and attentive. The clam strips were amazing, as they always were. Very large portion! Chicken and biscuits were also very good. Plus, have the food bar! Many different choices and great salad bar! All very good. Mexican, pizza, etc. They have t-shirts, and other souvenirs for sale. Also read the newspaper articles by the entrance/exit. Even if it;s just for a little snack, come here for an experience of an extremely rare HoJo restaurant!
