Empty Parking Lot – I travel almost every day of the week and eat at restaurants throughout the US. I have a good eye for good and bad restaurants. Wasn?t sure about this one had a weird feeling. Didn't bother pulling in, No cars in the parking lot (Bad Sign). After reading other reviews just conformed my suspicions? of the place.

Don't Eat Here – Don't use the coupon. I followed the directions to present coupon with bill, then was told I could not use it to pay for my appitizer. They said they would give me a cheaper appitizer for me to take out. The restaurant was almost empty when I got there. The word must be getting around, "Don't eat here."

lousy service, billing fraud – Relocated from San Jose to Las Vegas about a year ago, I have been looking for a really good dim sum place. I read the reviews on citysearch (and noted the wrong billing issue) and decided to give it a try. The first time I was there, the food was terrible and the service was lousy. When we were done, the waiter came by the table and tabulated right at the table how much the bill will be. When he gave the bill back to me, I saw an extra check mark by the special (most expensive) dim sum item and questioned why, he was startled that I caught that and tried a very lame excuse and removed the extra charge. Not wanting to make rush judgement about the food and their dishonesty, we decided to come back the second time. The food was a little bit better (not great) and when the bill came, guess what happened? Same thing happened as last time, the bill came back from the waiter with one extra check mark on the special item. I got so sick of it, went up to the cashier (i think she's also the restaurant manager/owner) and told her the problem, she pretended to not knowing anything and said "i'm just cashier, i don't know anything". I , Hmm, I didn't know "just a cashier" can yelled and been telling all the staff in the restaurant what to do. Anyway, I think the whole restaurant staffs are all in on cheating the customers by charging them for something they didn't order. I don't mind paying higher price for dimsum, but try to steal money by charging customers for something they didn't order is just plain DISGUSTING! I've been telling my friends about this place and we will NEVER NEVER visit it again.

dim sum – I have always eaten at Cathay House, every since I was six years old, and now I am twenty. I bring a lot of my friends and family here. The service was never great, but my latest visit was ridiculous. It took forever just to get our water and tea. My boyfriend asked for a Coke and did not receive it until 20 minutes later. After we were finished eating, we had to wait for the bill for at least half an hour. We had to ask for our to-go box three times! My bill said it was sixteen dollars and some change, but for some strange reason when I paid it was twenty dollars. I asked him why the amount changed and the cashier said, "I dont know why, I'm just the cashier." Terrible service. My family and friends will never be returning to this place.

Be careful and check your bill at Cathay house – The dim sum is good here but be careful when you get the bill. My friends went there for dim sum and when they got the bill, someone at the restaurant added several stamps to make the bill higher. When my friend confronted them, they took off the items. Then, we were there and they overcharged us for two large dim sum items that we did not order. We told them and they apologized for the mistake. Seems like too much of a coincidence. Just be careful and count your dishes and make sure that is what you are charged for. If not, go to Chan's or Orchid's. Their food is good too and I've never had an issue with the bill,

A popular spot since 1988, thanks to Vegas views and dim sum. – In Short
The Cathay House makes a grand first impression with a stunning city view, dressy waiters and linen tablecloths. The extensive menu carries classic Chinese-restaurant fare, from egg rolls and fried dumplings to Mongolian beef and kung pao chicken. Noteworthy dishes are the curry puffs (wontons filled with curried cream cheese) and the strawberry chicken (chicken breasts lightly batter-fried and topped with strawberry sauce).

Dissappointing to us – I rarely dissagee with the editorial descriptions but this one was so far off I can hardly believe that this is the same place they described. WHAT great view?? What ambiance?? What elegant servers?? My husband and I are affectionados of Dim Sum and have eaten in many such restaurants. The fillings in the dumplings we ate were not tender nor ample. I realize that this is acceptable to residents of China (we have toured several cities in China) but not to American palates. And the choices were far too limiting. The non-dimsum dishes were even worse.

Good Dim Sum – We tried this place last week - the first dim sum place we have tried in Las Vegas. Based upon our lack of (Las Vegas) dimsum restaurants, we'd have to say this place is pretty good. The flavors are authentic, and the variety is substantial. The food and service were good here and we would suggest readers give it a try, IF DIM SUM is what you are looking for. For made to order Chinese food, there may be better places here in Las Vegas, based upon your taste and preference.
