Great Auto Repair Place – The waiting room is clean. The staff is efficient and nice. The work done on my car was excellent. I will be back!! The technicians really know what they are doing. Don't hesitate to check them out for major repairs or maintenance.

Excellent! – I brought my Subaru in because it wasn't running quite right, was due for an oil change and the driver's side headlight was out. Larry took it in and let me know a few hours later that it was ready to go after changing the oil, replacing the headlight, cleaning the fuel injector, and replacing the spark plugs and wires. When I went to pick the car up, they even showed me the faulty parts that had been replaced. I started it up, drove off, and was amazed at how much better my car ran. Ricky and the team at Pro 1 are honest, fair and really know what they're doing; look no further if your car needs service!

I have used Pro 1 Automotive since 1986 when the company I was working for used them to maintain their fleet of trucks. I saw how well they treated the company trucks and what a bunch of great guys they were so I started taking my vehicles to them.

I am a geologist and my work takes to the remotest most difficult areas to reach in the western US. I need a reliable and dependable vehicle to get there and get back no matter what I encounter. Ricky, the owner, and his crew at Pro 1 have done that for me, my wife and my daughter for all of our vehicles. The mechanics are skilled, trustworthy and honest about what they can do and what the repairs will involve and cost.

For 25 years I have trusted my vehicles to Pro 1 and will continue for another 25 years. I recommend them to anyone who asks me about a good auto mechanic. They have worked with me when times were tight and I have never felt taken advantage of in any repairs or recommendations.

Those who have bad experiences at Pro 1 probably wanted something for nothing or expected a miricle to be performed on their hunk of junk. 25 years of satisfaction is difficult to argue against - Pro 1 is simply the best shop in Reno!

I replaced timing belt there, they would not allow me to use Ford timing belt, they insist on using the OEM aftermarket one. They charge over 700$ for timing belt, water pump. I complained to BBB, they don't care. They are very expensive.

The point is the belt just last 40k miles, and then broke. They told me it can last at least 60K miles. Damn it.

Never go there!

part swappers – Part swappers, that's what they are. They swap parts until you stop complaining, in the mean time, they charge you for both the labor and the parts. They replace parts that do not even need replacing. I filed a claim with the BBB, they do not even have the decency to respond to the BBB. The people who leave good reviews, got lucky. I would not trust them with my bicycle.

Honorable Trustworthy – I have been in business in the Reno area for 17 years. I have met a wide variety of people who own businesses in Reno and many of them were not so honorable or trustworthy. Ricky (the owner) is an honorable man and was struck by the last two reviews in such a way that it made me want to go to his shop.

Most of the reviews on these websites are posted by someone who has an issue with their service and you never hear from the many good people who have a pleasant experience!

I can tell you that I will be going to Pro1 Automotive the next time I need service, because I can see that the service you get at Pro1 really matters to Ricky.

Get a second opinion – I brought in my Impreza for a funny sound coming out of the right front strut area. I was told that I was in need of some new struts. The quote for new struts all around came out to be about $1400 dollars. Reasonably priced, struts being a big job. My car has 60,000 miles on it, they told me that although its not a lot of miles the car, its 10 years old and needs new struts. So I went ahead and got them. In the end its was $1700 because the car also needed a camber adjustment kit. It was done in a reasonable amount of time, and mechanically everything is all right. The staff was helpful and professional. But the problem is that the sound I brought the car in for is still there, and there isn't a noticeable difference in the ride. It seems to me that now I'm $1700 bucks down with no real bright side other than I got a jump start on getting some new struts that I will eventually need, but not now. There isn't anything I can do about it.

I would recommend getting a second opinion before you have any major work done by these guys.

If you like to throw away money and time, then go here – I would first like to start by saying that I never give bad reviews. I let the business fix the problem, and use the business again and again. Unfortunately, this has backfired on me. Let's just say, if I could give them negative stars, I would. 1 star is being way too generous.

My history with Pro 1 goes back 2 years. I only went back because I felt that I should support my local business, and because my husband insisted that we keep coming back, after all, they always make things right.

Except that they did not. I will spare the long stories of problems and share with you the first time I took my vehicle there, and the last time.

This last time, I took my dodge diesel in for a cold start problem. As with all car repairs, a person usually has to take time off work, or arrange for transportation. No problem, got the logistics worked out and a few hundred dollars later and the next morning, I'm sitting in my driveway trying to start my truck. Back to the shop it goes. Can you imagine? They found something else wrong, so a few hundred dollars later, I find myself late for work yet again because I can't get my truck to start.

I called to get my money back, after two years of returning my vehicle after every time they touched it (yep, every single time I took it in), I am tired of it. But they won't refund my money. They want me to give them the opportunity to fix the problem, which would be fine, except that I can not afford to be late for work again, or even miss any more time from work, and they don't open until 7:30, so giving me a ride to work to get me there by 7 is not an option. That's fine, but refund me the money for the work you didn't do. I want a refund because the problem is now worse then it was before I took the vehicle in, long story short, they made it worse, and now they want to make it even worse and probably charge me more money for it.

If this was a one time incident, I wouldn't be writing this, but it's not. The first time I took the truck in for a break problem, told them the truck had trouble stopping on a down hill. They laughed at me and implied that a woman can't drive a truck. I told them to do a test drive, make sure they're on a hill. Sure enough the rotors needed replacement (I had just purchased the vehicle so didn't know about the problem). Several hundred dollars later, I thought I was on my way, well, that was until 4 months later, when the truck wouldn't stop again, so I took it back. Can you believe they asked my husband if I ride the breaks? They were in denial they did the job wrong. Two weeks later after replacing the entire breaking system, they finally found the problem, turned out to be their fault, and I didn't get charged.

But that was the only time they didn't charge me, every other time I took it back, they charged me.

So that's it in a nutshell. Don't go there. Don't support them, unless of course, you like to spend money, and have a broken vehicle. Then go for it. I for one, will never let them touch my truck again.
