Rude Staff – My friend and I yesterday evening decided to stop by Angelo & Maxies for a glass of wine and a lite snack. We decided to sit by the bar. The second we walked in the hostess ran up to us to say that the high tables are reserved. There was no one sitting there and there were no signs. We were not going to sit there anywhere. That right away turned me off. Then we literally sat there for 10 minutes and were completely ignored by the bartender. She just stared right at us and was wiping down the bar. We were livid. The place was not even crowded! Obviously we were not welcome there. I guess you have a be a skinny 20-something to get service. We stormed out and vowed never to return.

MORE MATURE DINERS BEWARE! – This Friday night, December 15, 2010, my elderly aunt and I (middle aged) visited Angelos and Maxis on 19th and Park Avenue. Even though my aunt had made a reservation and we arrived in a timely manner, the restaurant refused to seat us! In fact, there was quite

a few empty tables in their dining room. They suggested we sit in the bar in the back of the restaurant. What? We were both flabbergasted and extremely insulted especially being we've enjoyed eating at this restaurant various times over the last five years. For the record, we were both well dressed and totally presentable.

I'd give this restaurant the benefit of a doubt regarding profiling if this weren't the second time we had received less than courteous service. The last time we ate at Angelos and Maxis, we arrived for dinner on the early side (5:00 p.m.), and we were offered a table way in the back (like they wanted to hide us) directly in front of where all the servers were congregating. Their dining room was empty, and I told the hostess, "No, this isn't going to wash." Then she led us to another table, while all these comfortable booths were available. We only got a booth because my aunt had to ASK for one.

This is ageism for sure, and we will certainly never come back.

Tried to cheat me on the wine – I went to Angelo and Maxie's with a large group two days ago (Friday Dec 10). I ordered the 2006 Clos du Bois cabernet and the waiter brought the wine, showed it to me a bit too fast and withdrew it to pour it. Something in the speed with which he flashed it in front of my eyes made me want to look a bit more closely so I asked for it back and sure enough it was the 2007, which is about 25% to 33% cheaper if you buy it in a liquor store or online. (Note that the 2007 is not even on Angelo & Maxies' wine list).

I asked to see the manager and he claimed that they are changing around their wine selections and hadn't yet updated the list. I asked him why they didn't just tell me that before they brought the cheaper wine and he blamed the waiter.

However, if you want my opinion they correctly guessed that I don't know much about wine and figured I woudn't spot the switch.

whats better than good? – So the boys and I had a night out, one of us were finally getting married. Kinda like walking a man down death row, it's a long green mile.

The steaks were actually very good. I had the porterhouse, a bit on the underdone side but very tender and juicy. The sides however were over salted, nothing worse than really overly salty sides to go with your steak. Makes you want to gulp down more beer, not necessarily a bad thing, but the night was young.

As for the place, nice décor, I was surprised there were a lot of families there. The occasional piece of eye candy to boot.

So overall, not a bad meal. We enjoyed our steaks, drank the beer, took in the scene, a moment to relax before trying to wreak havoc on our last night out before the Wu gets married in the morning...

A Great Restaurant Week Experience – Visiting New York with my wife during "Restaurant Week", I researched restaurants in the Gramercy/Flat Iron/Chelsea neighborhoods and found Angelo and Maxie's. We made our long distance reservations over the phone, which was an efficient and pleasant experience in itself. Unlike the previous evening where the restaurant offered a limited RW menu with many surcharges added, A&Ms offered their specialties at the standard RW rate of $35 for three courses. The service was efficient and gracious, and the 12-oz filet mignon literally melted in our mouths. Furthermore, the chef produced a "medium well" and "medium" which matched our expectations perfectly. The first-course salad was both ample and fresh. Lastly, I opted for the NY cheesecake dessert while my more disciplined wife chose the fruit (and couldn't resist some of MY delicious fattening item!). All in all, it was a fine experience which capped off a fine day in NYC.

Grammercy's Hidden Treasure – Angelo and Maxies is the finest steakhouse in NYC! Not only is the food of high quality and reasonably priced, but the service is exceptional. Hats off to Marcellus and the entire service staff. I am a regular and extraordinarily picky about my dining experiences. The portions are very generous and rather ample for large parties. My favorite is the petite filet mignon. Perfection!

Angelo and Maxies NEVER disappoints!

Past its Prime! – I used to like this place, but I had dinner here with my boyfriend on a sunday evening and the experience was awful. When we sat down there were crumbs all over the seat. Our waiter brought our drinks and my wine glass had food crusted on the rim, and my boyfriends beer glass was chipped. We ordered 3 appetizers, one entree and a side, and instead of coursing out our meal the waiter brought everything at once. The table was packed and our steak got cold while we ate our apps. We were pretty annoyed. The waiter knew we were upset, so he avoided our table, and didn't even bother to check in on our meal. If he had, we would have told him that he forgot our mash potatoes. Then the waiters held open the emergency door for an extended period of time, and since we were sitting right across from it, we froze, and our food froze. By the time we reached desert, I wanted to get out of there, but my boyfriend wanted the pecan pie. When it came it was warm on the top and refrigerator cold in the middle and on the bottom. I was going to talk to a manager, but my boyfriend said it would be pointless. If you're looking for a nice dinner experience, try another steak house. Angelo and Maxie's is past it's prime.

what a difference a year makes – Recently ate here again after having not been impressed a year ago, and all I can say is 'Wow!' Not a "kitchen nightmares" kind of turnaround (because the restaurant was far from a dump last year, but nice to begin with and remains a classy steak joint), but what a huge service improvement nonetheless. The experience this time was superlative! Ken at the door squeezed our party of four in, and we were waited on by a trio of waiters named Matt, who took wonderful care of us. Service was amazingly prompt, and delivered with gusto, and attention to detail. Even when there was a slight mistake with one of our entrees, Matt quickly corrected it with an insistance on what he described as 'diamond service,' everyone had great humor, and were complete professionals. We knew we were in good hands from all our servers' fantastic attention to detail. The previous time was not the case, the service and experience were somewhat lacking, but I can comfortably say that is no longer the case. I plan to come back with friends real soon and will seek out 'the Matts' once again for a steak the size of staten island, cooked to perfection, with super service to boot!

Angelo and Maxies – I reacently dined at this place and I have to say it was awsome. From the wait staff to the food it was all good. The staff acomidated all of our needs and then some. If that wasn't enough, I am asuming he is a manager everything was taken into account. Well done! I will return.

great night – my friend and i celebrated my 40th birthday there on a thursday nite. the drinks were super strong which was great. the door staff and bartenders were terrific. our server was lacking sincerity and interest, but then another server stopped by, 'cal' i think she said her name was and she was pleasant. the food was really exceptional, something i wasn't expecting. from the shrimp and clams oreganato to the ceasar salad. the ny sirloin was tender, juicy, sooo tasty and the garlic potatoes, although not a favorite were just right. the bread pudding was crazy good and the cheesecake and lava cake were amazing too. really a great nite, where i thought two girls surrounded by too much testosterone would get lost.
