'50s for the super-thrifty. – The Scene
Much smaller than the average double-wide trailer this East Village store's name suggests, White Trash's merchandise is anything but. The kitschy merchandise runs the gamut from sparkly formica-top tables to a wide assortment of Noguchi lamps. Also browse vintage postcards, Union Jack-emblazoned ceramic plates, suitcases and tablecloths straight from Grandma's attic.
The prices may seem a bit on the steep side for those used to scavenging this kind of stuff from suburban sales, but for New York, you'd be hard-pressed to find a more stellar selection of mid-century taste so-bad-it's-great. Serious collectors will thrill to the rescued metal industrial office shelving and Herman Miller pieces that show up from time to time, while those on a tighter budget will delight in colorful metal drinking straws ($1 each), sure to turn heads at any apartment-warming soiree.
