Who DOESN'T want Veniero's as an after-dinner snack? This East Village Italian staple is perfect for a sit-down dessert or pastry to go. Try the mini baba rum cannoli, the pignoli cookies, and the cheesecake.

They have amazing pastries here. I purchased my wedding cake from this pastry shop and it was one of the best cakes that I have ever eaten. I highly recommend this location.

They make the best strawberry shortcake that every existed! It's packed with fresh pieces of strawberry amidst the light, fluffy layers of whipped cream... My family continues to enjoy many birthdays with this cake...

Best cannolis in NYC – I love a lot of things in this shop but their cannolis are by far the best I have ever had.

Old Fashioned Italian Pastry Shop – Don't go to Ferara's in Little Italy. That is an overpriced tourist trap. Not to say Veniero's is not touristy. However, it at least is reasonably priced and its lighting doesn't blind you when you walk in.

I love their cheesecake, Italian cookies and their tiramisu. This place always has people waiting in line but I don't mind since I live 1 block away!

Their cannolis are not bad but not the best I have had.

Mouth Watering – Whenever I find myself in the area, I cannot resist a visit to Veniero's Pastry Shop. They have gotten a bit pricey in recent years but there pastries are very good. My favorite is the chocolate coated cannoli. The shell is dipped in chocolate and filled with cannoli cream and chocolate chips. The shell is crunchy - as it should be - and not soggy. Truly a mouth watering treat. When you enter the store be certain to take a number. When your number is called, order and enjoy!

Really GREAT! – I bought the Tiramisu cake and cannolis and baba rum, I was so impressed. Me and 2 family members ate the entire Tiramisu cake in one night thats how good it is.

I will be coming back here often

Numero uno cheesecake – I was anxious to challenge Veniero's NY style cheesecake being declared the NUmber One cheesecake, until my recenr visit. I am "NOT WORTHY" to challenge the well earned awards displayed in their showcase, but I am ready to re-visit a great trip down the smooth, rich and creamy path to cheesecake heaven. As the governator of caly-fornia would say when it comes to Veniero's " I'LL BE BAACK !!!!!!!!!! "

Still the Best – Hi Everyone,

My family has a tradition of having cheesecakes for Thanksgiving dessert, and yet again this year Veniero's did not disappoint. We had one regular italian cheesecake and one pumpkin and both were delicious, though my favorite is always the original. Family members from Chicago were so impressed they were wondering if they deliver all the way out there. Thanks again for another tasty Thanksgiving!

Surprised Fruits – I used to live across the street from Veniero's and I go there a lot. But yesterday I went to buy a fruit tart pie. It was super disappointing. I got home and find a mold strawberry on my tart. I was so upset. I was waiting months to go get one and I finally did and it was bad. So look out, on the fruit stuff. The cluster inside wasn't has soft it was hard like left overs. =( I was so sad. Veniero's used to be soo good. But now it's just good not the best. But so far I still haven't find any place that's better then Veniero's.

Good But Not The Best Cannoli – Just to try and set the record straight to all those who don't know pastry shops outside of Manhattan the best cannoli in NYC is from Villabate on 18th Ave. in Bensonhurst. The owners are from sicily & the ricotta is flown in from sicily & shells are thin & crispy. That being said yes Veniero's does make good cookies, NY & Italian style cheesecakes, pastries and assorted specialty cakes. I like the Italian cheese cake and rum cake sheets sitting on the counter you can have them cut to order, no need to purchase a whole cake and they are always fresh. The apple pie is delicious, crust is thin and apples are not too sweet and spiced just right.

Best Pastries in New York – Veniero's has been a staple with me and my family for over 20 years. The service is great and the pastries, pies, cakes, etc. are second to none. I highly reccomend Veniero's to anyone who is looking for great pastries.

LOusy Customer Service – I tried to place on order on the website for Cannolis and the website was having real problems. I called in and asked for help, they said I would have to speak to Paula. I continued to have problems only now it wasing duplicate order when in fact the first order was completed with the incorrect credit card number. I called back in to speak to Paula, I explained my situation- she first rudely suggested that the problem was with my credit card company and that I should call them.

I graciously explained my problem again and she said that someone handles the web orders and she couldn't fix it. After some discussion she hesistated but offered to cancel the original order with the wrong number. She needed the order number- Well do to the website not responding no order number came up. She rudely refused to help me without this number.

I finally told her to forget the whole thing. Paula is one rude, unhelpful service person for sure.

Avoid this place for Cannoli delivery- the service is terrible.

...take the cannolis! – When I think Italian pasties, there is only one bakery that comes to mind... and that's Veniero's! This place never fails to satisfy my Italian pasties desires. The best Italian Pastry in All of New York.

A taste of Italy – After a wonderful dinner at nearby Lucky Cheng's, my friend and I came here for the much talked about desserts. The cannolis are crisp and filled with delicious cheese, the rum cakes are soaked with just the right amount of the heady spirit, and the esspresso was a warm welcome afterwards!

The place seems always packed and loud. Service could be a little more cordial but it seems that you come here more for the sweets than the service. A wide variety of pastries abound here as well as the clientele.

A great place to end the evening on a sweet note.

simply the best! – I never sat down and ate at their cafe, so I can't comment their level of service. But whenever I am in the area, I always buy something to take home with me.

I never liked traditional American cheesecake - too sweet and too dense, but ricotta cheesecake in Veniero's is just OUT OF THIS WORLD - not too sweet, fluffy and moist...

I also buy a bag of their delicious pignoli, and that bag is always half full by the time I get home :)

Thankfully I don't live in the area, otherwise I'd be overweight!

go to ferrara's instead – I will never go to Veniero's ever again. My last time there was enough to stop me from ever wanting to step foot in that place again. I had only ever been there very infrequently before, but now if I want good Italian desserts, I'm always going to go to Ferrara's.

Our waitress was outrageously rude to us. We were seated fairly quickly, but then she was tremendously rude while we were ordering. She even made sarcastic comments that at one point when my sister was ordering, caused her to just stop and looked at the waitress. Actually everyone at the table turned, and I just thought, "are you SERIOUS??" It took forever for her to finally bring the food, and after she gave it to us she pretty much disappeared. The tiramisu was nothing like the tiramisu at Ferrara's, and everything else was just about similar quality or a disappointment in comparison. Even that would have been excusable since they do have chocolate cannolis with chocolate filling rather than just the vanilla filling that they offer at Ferrara's, but the service was just overwhelmingly bad & ruined the nice evening I had been having with my group of friends. We just wanted to go to a nice place after dinner to enjoy dessert, but it was COMPLETELY ruined by a woman who was so astoundingly rude, I can't even believe it. One of my friends asked her if the extra charge at the bottom of the check was included tip (it was labeled something he wasn't familiar with) & she snapped back "of course! that's a common thing for large groups in NEW YORK CITY!" as if she was talking to some tourist! We tried to complain to a manager, but no one would tell us where the manager was & they refused to get the manager for us when we stood & asked repeatedly. In fact, the man at the front just started laughing when we told him how rude the waitress was. It was completely insulting.

I will never support a business that treats customers so poorly.

Ridiculously Incompetent – This review reflects my own personal opinion and is not to be associated with any place of business. However, I think its necessary to warn others that ordering a cake from this "renowned" pastry shop is like asking for rain in the Death Valley. It isn't going to happen. You call to ask why your cake has still not arrived and the reply you get is that it is on the truck. Fifteen minutes later, you have a party and no cake. What you do have are plastic forks and paper plates and a room full of hungry people. Another fifteen minutes later, you call and are put on hold for over ten minutes just so they can tell you that they cannot find the cake on the truck or in their refrigerator. "Sorry, we can't find it." A sixty dollar cake has vanished. No explanation is offered. From their perspective they don't have to care about the inconvenience they've caused you because they are after all famous. You can just run along and buy your cake from some other place. The loss of your business doesn't put a single dent in their profits. They continue on. They apparently think they can be as other reviewers have said, "rude" and "surly" to their customers and even downright incompetent with no consequence. Are they right?

Best cannolis north of Little Italy! – After a wild night at Lucky Cheng's, my friends and I wanted a change of pace and dessert so I took them to this renowned Italian bakery and cafe. This place has the best Italian desserts and expresso outside of Little Italy. The cannolis, rum-balls, chocolate covered rainbow cakes, biscotti, all your favorite Italian desserts can be found here. You can sit down and eat here and take home some desserts from the bakery counter up front. A great place to end a night on a sweet note!

If you're on a diet... – Do not come here. This place is pure temptation. I've heard so much about this place that decided to go in. Even to just to get desserts to go, you'll have to wait in line quite sometime. But I think every minute was worth the wait. They have miniature everything which is a great way of trying new Italian desserts. I bought around 6 different ones to "take home" of course they didn't survive that far. I will go back to dine.

Best Iced Cappuccinos – I love their iced cappuccinos (especially decaf iced cappuccino for after dinner or late night)

and their pignoli cookies....I was not too happy with service...wiatresses were a bit unfriendly and cashier/manager was frosty...Also very noisy when it is crowded..they seemed unhappy and stressed out...better during the daytime...

AMAZING food, but a little intimidating. – The pastries here are fantastic -- and cheap -- but there are so many of them and I really wasn't sure what everything was. Some of the rum-soaked stuff tastes really strange to an American palate. Nevertheless, the custard tarts were amazing...

The Great NYC Cheescake Quest - Prologue – Quickly - this is a very average restaurant, nothing to write home about except for the cheesecake that, to this out-of-towner - seemed the ultimate. BUT...I am heading to the Big Apple in mid April 06 with my family and intend to a very scientific blind taste test on Venerio's versus Johnny's, D'auito's, Ferrara bakery and Eileen's. I will consider other candidates fellow Citysearchers nominate ;-) Watch for results!

So over-rated! – I've been here 3 times now, each time because someone in my group wanted to try out the hype. and each time, I was left thinking "what's the big deal?" The desserts I tried were bland and a little too sugary. The service was slow, due to the crowdedness, and the tables were cramped. I've been living in NY for more than 5 years now - and I can say that this is the most over-rated bakery in the city!

Try the lush ricotta cheesecake and you'll know why people have been lining up here for 100 years. – Choose from 40 feet of sweets at the takeout counter, or get a table inside one of two dining rooms. Marble floors and stamped metal ceilings do nothing to soften the caffeine- and sugar-charged chatter, but Veniero's is a popular stop for the dating crowd.
Expect to find Italian pastry of the sponge-cake variety, soaked in rum or liqueur and filled with custard, whipped cream or sweet ricotta cheese. Tiramisu, the ubiquitous lady finger and mascarpone dessert, is still better here than most anywhere else. Wash it down with the very good espresso; do likewise with the cannolis. The baba rum comes in three flavors--sweet, sweeter and sweetest--and there are a half dozen styles of cheesecake.

Mouthwatering Dessert.... – This place is by far one of the best bakeries I have ever been to...I am also seriously considering having my wedding cake from here...This is also one of the few places that is opened for dessert later compared to other places...I highly suggest this place for anyone, especially tourists...I've taken close friends here for post-birthday dinners for dessert and it has never failed to please...The coffee drinks are strong, so beware if you order any with liquor! Every dessert I've have ever ordered or had to-go has always been simply mouthwatering...every piece of every dessert just melts in your mouth...The great thing about this place is that the cakes have cream that is so light...it must be the secret recipe they use to make the whipped type of cream used in the cakes...If you can squeeze this into your trip in NYC, I highly suggest you try!!!

Best Cheesecake – I will by a few cheesecakes and freeze them overnight so I can haul 'em over to California when I visit family and friends. They love me for that. Not only are their cheesecakes mouthwatering, they have excellent gelato and coffee drinks (their iced cappuccino has espresso gelato in it!). In the summer, you can't pass up their lemonade... And of course their mini pastries and other cakes are excellent as well... One of my favorite places for dessert and coffee.

Very Good for Desserts – At the very least, come here to get some desserts to go. The desserts here are excellent, and the reason that I continue to come. The coffee drinks they have are good as well, and are the major reason to sit down as opposed to simply ordering pastries or cakes to go.

That having been said, I have to add a couple of disclaimers. First, the atmosphere is nothing special, and can be described as average. The service is also nothing special. Usually, it is average and you will be served in a reasonably timely manner. There are a few times where service is terrible, and sometimes just rude. This is an unfortunate side to what would otherwise be an excellent dessert place.

Cannoli and Sicilian Cheesecake – Even if you never get to Sicily, you don't have to "miss out" on their cannoli and cheesecake (Sicilian cheesecake is basically cannoli filling cheesecake). Seriously, it's like my Sicilian grandmother made them for me in her kitchen in Italy! Their espresso drinks are impeccable too. Can't recommend it enough.

This is it, the good stuff, the reason NYC is the center of the world. Absolutely the best Italian pastry shop in NYC. Criticism of the service is probably justified (though I have not had problems) because when this place is crowded (as usual, Friday and Saturday evenings) all Hell breaks loose. The only weak spot is the gelato. Whether you like each desert will depend on taste. But overall, this is the best. Ferrara's, by the way, alluded to in another review of Veniero's, is expensive and impoverished by comparison. I have to admit my feelings about this place will never be the same since that poor beautiful woman was electrocuted in front, for those of you who follow NYC news.

can·no·li – Forget the cheesecake, Veniero's has the best cannolis in the city. Perhaps, the best outside of Italy. I'm currently in Los Angeles just thinking about Veniero's - the atmosphere - the neighborhood - oh and man oh man - the chocolate chip cannolis. Thank you Veniero's. Oh, and yeah, I have waited on line the night before Thanksgiving for one of their cheesecakes - well worth the hour wait and you get to meet some of NYCs finest too!
