A historic park in lower Manhattan. – In Short
One of the city's first parks was once used as a cattle market and then, appropriately, as a bowling green. The small plaza held a statue of King George III until the signing of the Declaration of Independence, when it was toppled and reportedly chopped up and melted down for ammunition. The park is popular with nearby financial workers at lunch, and with tourists for the prominent, imposing bronze statue, "The Charging Bull."
