TERRIBLE service – We went to Giorgio's for a nice meal that was not too pricey. We made reservations a week before, but when we arrived we waited for 20 minutes both to get a drink and for the manager to offer us a crappy seat in the front of the restaurant, apart from where the dining area was (there were only two tables in the front bar area we were offered). We asked how long it would be until a seat in the dining hall came up and was told 15 minutes. After another 20 - 25 minutes, we were taken to our table, which was placed too close to the table behind it. Every time someone needed to pass though, my seat would get bumped (every couple of minutes). I finally decided to say something after my seat was literally dragged two feet by someone trying to get by (it wasn't there fault, it was just too tight). When I spoke to the manager he blamed my group because we gave up the first table! Unbelievabe. While the rest of the service was pretty bad (took us a good half hour to have our order taken), it did not bother me as much as the manager's attitude. The food was good, but did not compensate for the rest of the issues we had.
Terrific Dinner – Had dinner here last Saturday(4 people) and was extremely happy with the experience. The food was very good, the service was friendly and efficient.Really good wine list.Lots of interesting selections and many in the $40 to $50 range.Everything on the menu sounded appealing and the food prices were all reasonable.
The room had a warm feel to it,with a nice bar in front that seated about 10 people. The only complaint would be that the space is somewhat tight, but that was more than offset by the food, wine, service and very reasonable prices. All in all a wonderful place.Everything we tried(risotto, lentil soup, penne bolognese, mozz cheese/poached pear salad, pork chop,bone-in-ribeye special) was very well prepared and a good-sized portion.
Dependable Neighborhood Spot – I live in the neighborhood and this is a great go-to spot. Very good food and very friendly management and staff. They have a wonderfully stocked bar with great wine and bourbons. And the food is consistently good. I always love the scallops and the bolognese is also wonderful. I've been eating here for over five years and have never had a bad experience.
Amazing Restaurant Week Experience! – I went to Giorgio's of Gramercy today for lunch during restaurant week. The experience was great! For only 24 dollars, we were offered a choice of cesar salad or crab cakes to start, fillet mignon, lobster ravioli, or shrimp and scallop risotto as the main course, and an assortment or sorbets, gelato, or a peach tart for dessert. Every single plate was awesome, and everyone got something different. The waiter was also very friendly and attentive, and gave us good recommendations on how the meat should be cooked etc. I am definitely going back!
Terrible ambience – We had reservations for 8:30 pm but the table they gave us was literally right next to the kitchen. When we asked if we could switch to a better, empty table further from the kitchen, we were told that the table was reserved.
My biggest complaint with Giorgio?s is not the food. It is the layout and ambience, or I should say lack of ambience, of the place. I have never been to a ?high end? restaurant were the kitchen is literally right in the middle of the dining room, clearly visible to all diners, with little windows where the servers pick up the food. The constant shuffle next to the kitchen and noise of plates dropping was annoying and totally destroyed the romantic mood I was trying to create on my date. Unlike many reviews on here that say Giorgio?s has a romantic ambience, I disagree 100%. Even if we were not seated directly next to the kitchen, the restaurant is so small that the kitchen noise and visibility would annoy you anywhere. In addition, the overall noise level from other customers is very high, since they pack a lot of tables in a small space. I also didn?t appreciate the loud and obnoxious behavior of the B&T table sitting nearby.
The food overall was quite good. The portion size, however, was small. I was looking forward to the pork tenderloin that was advertised on the web site?s menu, but found no such offering on the real menu. I choose the duck, which was pretty tasty, although a very small portion size. I could have eaten 3 of those entrees, and I am not a huge guy ? 175 lbs and not fat at all. The wine we ordered was good, but definitely expensive. In fact, there are only one or two bottles on the menu under $40.
I can?t recommend Giorgio?s for a date. If you are with a group of friends and somehow think it?s charming to have the kitchen in the middle of the dining room, then Giorgio?s is for you. But, be prepared to shell out big bucks for an overpriced, mediocre dining experience.
The decoration of this Italian haunt is minimal--its lure is the all-accommodating menu. – In Short
This neighborhood restaurant serves something to satisfy Gramercy's every mood. Craving Italian? A classic penne Bolognese should do the trick. Feeling a little more highbrow? How about caramelized sea scallops in almond salsa verde? For TGIF tastes, there are jalapeno poppers and mozzarella sticks on the bar menu. The mass appeal is so strong that mobs easily make themselves at home despite a somewhat sterile whitewashed room outfitted with little more than throw pillows and drapes.
Best Italian Food I've had so far! – I went to Giorgio's for lunch today, with a co-worker. The atmosphere is a bit romantic, but we both enjoyed the coziness...I enjoyed how quiet it was. Going for lunch is great, even though the setting has a "romantic" feel, it was quiet and cozy enough to get a break from the work day. I recommend eating here because the prices are reasonable, the service was Awesome and the Food/Quality of the food was great! I love Italian food, but I have never tasted food this good I give it a perfect 10. We were in and out in an hour, but we weren't rushed. We spent less than $30 (not including our TIP) and we were full!!
Great place. Great Service. Great Authentic Italian Food!
Party of 18 and service was unreal, i think the waiter might have been a robot on speed – we went with a group of friends for another's b-day, there were 15 of us (which guaranteed the 18 %) but the waiter, bartender, busboys, host acted as though we wrote reviews for the newspaper. Usually with big groups they brush you off knowing their gonna get their tip. This was such a pleasant surprise. Food was very very very good. musebouche, oysters, bucatini with rabbit (which was super tender and delicious), a full wrack (i know citysearch censors this stuff but im just decribing lamb) of lamb, b-day cake and wine. all was very good and the price was spot on. One person in our group felt the steak was a little under cooked, they couldn?t have been more helpful. Overall a great find. WE will be back.
A True Gem!!! – This is by far one of my favorite places in NYC. I have been going for more than 5 years and have NEVER had a bad meal. The food is wonderful as is the service. The decor is nice, but not to fancy...you'd be fine in jeans or a suit. The menu changes with the seasons, so there is always something new to try...the penne with veal is one of my all time favorite pastas!
My Absolute Favorite Standby! – This place is the best and truly unique for a few reasons: The service is super friendly and attenitve, no attitude here. The menu is full of unusual flavor combinations and the menu and wine list changes seasonally to showcase the freshest ingredients. THey pay attention to details, they make homemade graham crackers to accent their Smores Bread Pudding, most places would never bother with such extra touches but pride is evident in the quality. And the value is unbeatable. $25 prixe pixe 7 days a week is a fabulous deal but you can't go wring here no matter what you choose.
