Filene's Basement Hit or Miss. Like many other Yelp reviewers have said, Filene's Basement is in fact, a hit or miss. Sometimes you get lucky and sometimes you just get overwhelmed with the uncoordinated racks of clothing and items. I would shop here for my son's clothes because shopping for children is just less stressful in general. You really have to be patient when shopping at Filiene's Basement.
Designer Department Store. When considering the perfect place to shop, one may ponder how Filene’s manages to distinguish itself from other self proclaimed #1 designer discount store such as Marshall, Daffy's, and Century 21. While some department stores entice consumers with promises of designer brands at discount prices most of these retail locations carry left over clearance items from designer stores. Many of these items have limited sizes available. The facilities are either understaffed or a challenge to navigate through creating an unpleasant shopping experience. Whenever I enter a Filene’s I feel more like I have walked into a retail store as opposed to a discount outlet. There is always a greeter at the front door, an associate in every section and signs throughout the store directing me to the different departments. Walking through the apparel section of Filene’s is like taking an afternoon stroll down 5th Avenue, admiring the displays of your favorite designer brands and you can actually afford to purchase something. If your searching for a one stop shop for the latest trends without the guilt of overspending check for the nearest Filene’s Basement.
COAT RIPOFF. went here to get a winter coat. I ended up picking out a coat with these tabs on them that were supposed to have toggles on them. At the time, I noticed that the other coats looked the same so I thought that was how it was supposed to be. I guess I thought that was part of the "deal." Looking later, you could see where the metal toggles had been cut off. So my grandpa brought back the coat to try to get them to exchange it and they wouldn't do ANYthing. They completely took advantage of him and accused ME of cutting off the toggles. Now WHY ON EARTH would I do that? It was probably some kids in the store. But anyways, I found the abuse of my grandfather And their complete unwillingness to help very unsettling and I won't be returning. My grandpa ended up having to pay $20 to have the tabs for the toggles removed.
Markdown mecca offers a wide variety of designer clothes for men and women at discounted prices..
In Short
The first Filene's Basement opened in downtown Boston in 1908. Since then, offspring have spawned across the East Coast, carrying men's and women's clothing from active wear and suits, to coats and special-occasion dresses, to shoes and sneakers. Find brands including French Connection, Tommy Hilfiger, DKNY, Kenneth Cole, Express and Calvin Klein, as well as couture from Versace, Armani and other high-end designers, all sold at a fraction of the original price.
Great Bargains. I love Filene's basement and am so happy its within walking distance of my work. Whether you want something quick and cheap or have time to pick through the designer stuff, you should come here. I just bought a beautiful BCBG dress for $30. Great shoes section too.
