“give them four stars because the food is a tad too expensive for diner food, but it's still good.”

Over 10 Years of Best Late Night Diner.
10 years ago I would have given this place 10 stars for the fun and memories as well as the food.
Years ago the hosts were dressed in drag and really had a lot of fun with the guests, the fries were to DIE for and they served drinks ...there was also a plethora of interesting events every time we were there in the wee hours of the morning.
I can say that the place has toned down a lot now and the host act like they barely notice you (no longer in drag, regular diner hosts)...however, the fries and gravy are still unbelievable as are most things on the menu.
The prices have also not changed in a looong time.
Worth a try for a drunk (or not drunk) late night out.
Great atmosphere. I've been to Empire Diner many times and I've had mixed experiences. Most dishes are good I especially like the fries, Chicken stir fry and their burgers. The salad was too oily and salmon pasta was bland. My husband loves the place and the atmosphere which is why we keep on coming back, if it was up to me I could live without.
great diner food. maybe you have seen this famous place on certain sprint commercials and other famous spots. gets sortof crowded but worth wait. sweet potato fries are reeallyyyy good. staff could use a washing but they r very friendly and nice. summer seating on the sidewalk is my favortie time to enjoy this place. will always be my favorite diner.
Love it!. I love the Empire Diner. Great burgers and fries, and the best rootbeer floats in NYC. Really, everything you would want in a diner, with fantastic service as well. I also love the decor, very kitchy and fun.

Tasty (high priced) diner food. I've eaten at Empire Diner on three different occasions (two with others and once by myself) and I've never experienced this terrible service that everyone speaks of. The waiters I've had were pleasant and friendly, and joked around with the people at my table. I've eaten there during Sunday brunch, during Friday dinner, and once in the middle of the afternoon on a Wednesday. I never had slow service or was yelled at by anyone who worked in the restaurant. Sure, the place is located in a trendy neighborhood and the people who work there like to talk and be social with each other, but this has never affected my meal or the service I've received from Empire Diner. I give them four stars because the food is a tad too expensive for diner food, but it's still good.
WORST SERVICE IN NEW YORK. .THE SEVICE SUCKED!!!!! THE SATFF WAS RUDE AND UNHELPFULL, THEY EVEN YELLED BACK WHEN WE WERE ASKING FOR MAYO. I HIGHLY RECCOMEND THAT NO ONE GO TO THIS PLACE UNLESS YOU ARE STARVING TO BE TREATED BEYOUND RUDELEY AND WANT TO BE YELLED AT BY THE STAFF FOR ASKING FOR CONDEMETES. I THINK THIS IS THE WORSE LATE NIGHT RETAURANT IN NEW YORK. THE CODDEL THIER RUDE STAFF INTO THINKKING THEY ARE SOMETHING MORE THAN HIRED SERVING STAFF. IT WAS IF WE WERE THERE TO INFORCE THEIR OVER ZELOUS EGOS, THIS TYPE OF SERVICE SHOULD NOT BE CONDOMNED AND THIER STAFF SHOULD BE REPLACED. NO RESTAURANT IS IMUNE TO THIER THEIR YELLING AT CUSTOMERS SO THEY CAN TAKE A BREAK AND CHAT WITH THEIR ?FRIENDS? I SEE THIS NEW YORK LANDMARK FOLDING IN FROM THEIR OWN SENSE THAT THEY SEEM TO THINK THAT ARE UNTOUCHABLE
Bad Service.
We were sat very quickly, which was nice. The table beside us who arrived afterwards was given water, menus, cutlery and even served before we had anyone come by. The waiters only came by when a co-worker embarrassingly started waiving and calling loudly to anyone who worked there to come to our table and help us out. we didnt get our menu until 30 mins into sitting down and werent fed until almost over an hour later.
the food was good, too bad it took so long to order and all the waiters should try another career
Diner with vegetarian options.... Yummy lentil burger and avocado salad, good veggie option to this vegetarian. overpriced, but perky service. would stop and eat again.
A 24-hour classic in the old rail-car style serving the food you'd expect: eggs, blue-plate specials, sandwiches and hot fudge sundaes.. This late-night landmark--and one of the city's finest examples of deco-diner architecture--is a low-key, after-hours favorite with everyone from club-hoppers to drag queens to investment bankers. The kitchen cranks out a steady roster of embellished diner fare like omelets, club sandwiches, and burgers. Sun-drenched diners enjoy sidewalk tables, and at night, this just might be the only candlelit shiny diner in town.
