Reviews for Havana Road

Ok, so I'm not sure what it is about people and timing nowadays. Reading the reviews here on a few other sites really had me worried about an Amazon Local coupon I had purchased, so here is what I have decided after my experience to Havana Road Cafe.....Americans have forgotten what it's like to actually sit and have conversation while waiting for their food to arrive! In Germany, food arrives in the order that it finishes and you begin eating when it comes, whether your tablemates have food or not! In Paris, dining is a true event.....if you are sitting there for three hours waiting for your courses, well that's just the way they do it.....in any case, people kick back and enjoy time with one another. I don't know about any of you, but I miss this aspect of dining. If you are in a big rush to eat and get out, Havana Road may not be for you. We thought the service was just fine, especially after reading the reviews here, but I have come to the conclusion that the vast majority of people have forgotten what it's like to kick back and relax.

We made a reservation for six, which ended up four. Our friend's sons did not want to tag along. This is probably the only con you will hear me say about Havana Road Cafe.....they seated us at a table that really could fit four comfortably...it was a rectangular, IKEA style glass table and really would work for four and possibly a small child or two. Their sons are older, so it worked out with the space.

Cafe in the name of the restaurant here is an operative word. This is not a large place. It will seat forty people at the most. Staff on hand seemed to be five or six, so we thought given what we could see going on, they were doing a spectacular job of keeping up with what became a very busy operation in the few hours we were there.

Our friends were late due to traffic coming from Hampstead, so the waitress asked if we wanted to order an appetizer while we were waiting. Since hubby and I had not eaten since breakfast, we went for a Empanadas de Chorizo y Queso. This did not disappoint! We were served these beautifully cooked Empanadas with this wonderful, cooling cucumber sauce on the side. OMGosh, I have nothing to compare these to as I can't say I really know Cuban food, but they were simply fabulous!

Our friends showed up and we had brought two Hispanic style wines from our stash at home (it's BYOB!!), and our waitress came over and began taking orders. From the appetizers we ordered a Tostones con Mojo, Twice Fried Plantain, with our Magic Mojo Sauce, Croquetas de Jamon y Chorizo , which was described as *Our house made Ham Croquettes with Spanish Chorizo- Marta’s recipe*, El Cubano which was fresh-sliced Swiss, Ham, our ‘Magic Mojo’, Pickles and Mustard, with our Cuban Pork. Bistec Empanizado, described as thin-cut, lean Skirt Steak, Caramelized Onions, Swiss Cheese, and I had a Cuban fried chicken special, which the waitress was able to accommodate a side salad for me, rather than black beans, which I have a problem with eating. Lots of *this is really good*, *Oh wow, this is amazing!*, and *How did you find this place again?* went on at the table.....so everyone loved everything! I tasted everyone's dish and it was all stellar. Meats were done and tender, presentation of the food was beautiful. The fried plantains were just fantastic....I wish I could get mine to come out like that at home! Hubby and friend said the black bean soup side for their meals was very tasty. Service was fine....we got everything I think in a reasonable amount of time.

As stated, this is not a large place. They were turning people away, so at least speaking from a dinner point of view, make a RESERVATION on their site and someone will get back to you. We had a very enjoyable experience and will definitely return!
