Never Again – First off,the space heater by the door was a classy touch to this overcrowded hole, our server was good and the food came out fast but they aren't reinventing the wheel, and as for my gripe,i usually put some extra with the bill and see if they give me change and then leave some more on the table, makes everyone feel a bit special as they usually share the tips anyway, but having the girl come up and ask me if everything was ok because i only left 10 percent and then as i actually had my hand in my pocket to leave more i began to explain and then told her that now being told i left less was pointless to even give them the rest but i did because if you have to beg me for it you should also make sure you have your food game on point, gripe 2,the app was good but the mashed potatos were lumpy and dry,and get some better silverware or at least give me a serrated knife to use as a butter knife is amateur at best, and as for the faux pork chops ,maybe you need to trim down those applie slices and make it taste like pork and not a chicken patty, the next was is that i know we ordered two different dishes but at least make the plates match, best part of it all was leaving,as for eating vegan/vegetarian ,they are nowhere near the better of a growing number of places in the NY area, thanks for the experience though and for the rest of you who go,enjoy.
good food. very very bad service – I really love the food howevr they just don't care about hospitality and making things right. Especialy when they screw up. I order delivery from them all the time. A while back I ordered some food and spring rolls were part of my order. When I recieved the order the spring rolls were not included. When I called to complain and asked them to please send me what I paid for they said that they will not send the delivery person just for spring rolls. I could not believe it. Remember I alredy paid for it and they would not send it.
This brings me to now, weeks later, I called and ordered Ginger Beef and Chicken Nuggets. I got the Ginger Beef but instead of the Chicken Nuggets they sent me Chicken Satay. When I called to complain and asked them to please send me the correct order the woman i spoke to who took the order told me that I was a problem customer that they had issues with before (the spring rolls). It seems that when they scew up they do not want to hear about it. Both times I asked to speak with a manager and both times i was told that there is no manager available. I was also told that if I hated Red Bamboo so much that I should not order from them. I was appalled. I've been in the food and beverage industry for thirty years. If i found out that one of my employees treated a customer like this i would fire them ASAP. Courtious hospitality is the those most fundamental and crucal part of this business.
From a meat eaters POV – Wow. Never new meatless could be so good. I can't wait to go back. You must try the BBQ wings
good food, seating's a tight squeeze – I came to Red Bamboo b/c I've been to Soy and Sake Village (not yet on CS) which is a new Veg restaurant that the owner of RB opened and was so excited to give it a try. I went on a Fri night and luckily got the last table for 2 so didn't have to wait but there was quite the wait within a few minutes time. It's a tiny place and I had to shimmy into my seat without disturbing the other diners. The food was def. above average and the menu was quite mouth watering but I probably won't be back soon. I like places that are more low key and less crowded (although some are worth it). I took home some leftovers since the portions were far from skimpy and it made for a nice lunch the next day.
Amazing – The food is insane! It's some of the best and most creative vegetarian food I've ever had. Everything is so fresh and beautifully prepared. YUM!
A veggie guilty pleasure – Vegetarian meats total yumminess at Red Bamboo. Its dishes are mostly bad for you (especially anything fried) but they're oh so tasty you won't care. Everything from their sandwiches to the entrees are plated beautifully and their portions will not disappoint. A casual atmosphere makes this a fun place to eat as well.
Consistently delicious – Red Bamboo is a reliably yummy place for lunch or dinner -- and they do great platters for events too.
HORRIBLE!!!! – This is NYC and there are plenty of vegetarian restaurants to choose from. So, my point...AVOID this one at all costs. The food may be decent but the RUDE customer service (the HOSTESS during the DINNER shift) will turn your evening into a night from hell. Great food + quality service=success...unfortunatley not so for Red Bamboo. The hostess wil ignore you and suggest that you squeeze into a two seat table for a party of three. And to top it off when I called the restaurant to discuss my experience with the owner, the employee that answered the phone could not understand how one bad experience could generate a poor opinion. Very easily! NYC Vegeatarian lovers, try S'Nice or Gobo, NOT Red Bamboo!
Food that doesn't make my insides hurt! – Following having my gall bladder removed, I had to make serious changes to my diet: I HAVE to eat healthy, otherwise, my insides hurt. I am very happy to say Red Bamboo does not let me down. I've dined there once for dinner and once for lunch. On a Wednesday at 7pm, it was about 45 minutes for our party of four to be seated - accurately quoted by the hostess who took our phone number and promptly called us when our table was paying their check. Our waitress (who I had on both visits) was a bit quiet, and seemed a bit aloof, but service wasn't too bad (an industry girl myself, I'm fairly critical). The second visit, a late lunch for two, was sat immediately and was very expedient. As a (current, but not for much longer) meat eater, I was extremely impressed with the food. A lot of "fake meat" I've had has been bland and generally gross. Not the case at Red Bamboo! My two favorites are the bamboo nuggets & the panko-crusted soul "chicken" sandwich. Proportions are large - all of the appetizers are very share-able. Same for the sandwich - I (very happily) took half home for later. Another favorite is the vegan spring rolls. They come with an absolutely delicious just-spicy-enough dipping sauce, and are a steal at $3.50. The only thing on the menu I was somewhat disappointed with were the steamed spinach Asian dumpling; the dough was too thick and heavy for my liking. Overall, this place is great for meat eaters and vegetarians alike and definitely a great value (dinner for 4 was $65, and lunch for 2 was $19). Now, if only they had fake bacon...
Good food, very small space – Went to Red Bamboo early on a Saturday evening. I'm not a vegatarian so all I can say about the food is that for a red meat eater I found it to be tasty. The vegatarian and the vegan in the group both said the food was good. This is not a place for big groups as the restaurant is very small. We didn't have a problem getting a seat as we went fairly early by NYC standards, 5pm. We had a group of five and really we were sitting at a table for four. The wait staff were great, very friendly and helpful. The place is so small they kind of tag team the tables. Overall everyone enjoyed the experience and said they would go back.
