Total lack of consideration – We went to the Blue Note one night. Upon arrival we were told that the first row was reserved so we moved further back. Well, sometime later the allow those seating nearby seat on said row. The host did not even have the courtesy of letting those that came in early to move up. I would never visit this place again.

The best in the world – The Blue Note is by far the best jazz club in the world. This year alone Ive seen the following shows: Ron Carter, Chick Corea, Cassandra Wilson, and McCoy Tyner. A few weeks back I was at the Jimmy Scott show and Elton John sat in. The following week George Benson sat in with James Carters band. You really never know what to expect at the Blue Note.

The seating is very tight but this is not a bad thing. The intimacy of this club is what makes it so special. You literally sit feet away from the performers.

Ive been to the other jazz clubs in town and the Blue note is very reasonably priced comparatively. The minimum at the tables is only $5. The drinks are not outrageous and the all inclusive <$20 brunch show on Sundays is a steal.

Quite Dissapointing – Saw Bebel Gilberto last evening. She sounded wonderful. Could not see her though. The Blue Note seats six to a small table, with the tables so tight together that as people maneuver and strain to see past eachothers heads they continually knock heads, jab elbows into ribs, etc. I really felt suckered after paying the highest ticket price I've ever payed for a small venue. Expect stangers at your table, and pray they've showered! I will not be going back.

Poor service and a rude host – The Blue Note has good jazz but their staff are snooty, slow and downright rude. If you're a jazz fan there are lots of great jazz places in the neighborhood. If you can tolerate the waitstaff and care just about the jazz the Blue Note is where its at.

Hit the 12:30 showing – This place has tons of great and interesting jazz. Go for the late nite shows, in my opinion you will find the best yound musicians at that time trying to make it big. Tickets are only 5 bucks and it's open seating and no drink min. Their sets are the longest b/c there is nobody after them. Sometimes they play for hours.

The glitzy antithesis of the Village Vanguard gets powerhouse bookings--and respects the music. – The Scene
It has only been around since the mid-'80s, but it feels like the Blue Note has been on West 3rd Street forever. Once you get past a lot of trappings--the grand piano awning, the Las Vegas-y interior, steep cover charge, overstuffed gift shop, mediocre meals named after great jazz songs, some clueless tourists and expense-account patrons--the Blue Note is truly a world-class jazz joint.

The Draw
The club attracts some of the biggest names jazz has ever known, and the abundant staff makes sure that when the music begins, the chatter--often in a dozen languages--comes to a dead silence. The booking policy is eclectic and often outstanding--Oscar Peterson didn't play nightclubs until the Blue Note threw piles of cash at him, and Cecil Taylor and Elvin Jones hadn't played together at all before a landmark series of recent late-night duets.

Solid Choice – I saw Taj Mahal last night at the Blue Note and was not dissapointed. The service was terrific and the atmophere was wonderful. It's a little pricey, but you get what you pay for. The crowd was also interested in the music and you could tell, unlike places like B.B. King's where tourists want to talk through anything.

Perfect for jazz lovers – Parking rigth across the street; I sugest to make reservations (just in case..); nice bar but few seats; tables are close to the stage except bar' seats; plenty of diferent kind of drinks; very few wine selection; food should be served at least 15 minutes before the show (not during the show); nice coustomers; it is not romantic when the place is full (you have to share the table).

Great Moods – The atmosphere is just what I expected -- very, very cool-- that is - the ambience is PERFECT for listening to great music. Up close & personal--- such professionals- we were entertained by Manhattan Transfer. I can't wait to see more shows!

the cover charge is always too expensive, tables crowded together, very overcommercialized
