Good Italian in Little Italy – This was my first dining experience in Little Italy and honestly, my husband I don't go there unless we're with friends visiting from out of town which was the case this trip. I did some research on restaurants beforehand and thought Il Palazzo was the best value for your money. Italian dining can be pretty expensive in this part of town. Overall we had a great experience. We were seated promptly and had good service. Our meals were very rich and flavorful, and my homemade ribbon pasta was al dente. It wasn't the best Italian meal but I would certainly recommend this restaurant if you must dine in Little Italy.
Great food, great service – As we strolled through Little Italy, we decided upon Il Palazzo, although it wasn't crowded like some of the other restaurants on the strip, the Maitre D standing outside assured us we would be happy w/ the food, and we were. The waiters were promt and the food was excellent to say the least. I've been to a few other restaurants in Little Italy and never bothered to get a business card, but this place was wonderful. They have a lovely indoor garden which has a cozy and warm feel. Will definately go back
So? – This place simply lacks any distinction. They claim to be the best food in Little Italy, and that is certainly not the case. It is just as good as any other, but the food is overpriced and their authenticity is lacking. Service is gracious, and the wine list is OK. Would have appreciated more of a selection with a better price range. I do not recommend this place, because you can get anything they have anywhere else, for cheaper or of better quality. The notion that the best italian food is on Mulberry has long since been abandoned. Go elsewhere.
A must – Outside of the steakhouses, this is probably the best restaurant I have been to in the city. Everything from the bread to the entree was perfect. My girlfriend and I did the usual walk around Little Italy, looking at the various menus and decided on Il Pallazo because of the sincerity of the host. I have never left a restaurant so satisifed. The olive oil that came with the bread was amazing. I know it is just olive oil, but it was great, mixed with cheese and different peppers, I actually tried to see if I could purchase a bottle to go. And the entrees were even better. The special that my gf got was fantastic, a seafood mix and pasta in vodka sauce. I think it might be a standard special since I recommended the place to a few friends and a couple got the same thing. And all loved it. It certainly is not a cheap place, especially for italian, but if you are looking for great food, this is definitely your place. I can't wait to take her back.
Great ambiance – The ambiance, location and portions cannot be beat for an authentic Little Italy experience. Ask for a table in the indoor patio or on the sidewalk (if you don't mind plastic chairs). The food is very good, though not excellent. The wine list is Italy heavy and not very long. Service is superb.
Great Service – Today was our 1st time eating here and we liked the atmosphere. We arrived around 3:15 which was still the lunch menu which was limited. The service was good and our waiter was attentive. The food was served faster than I have ever been served in my life in a sit down restaurant. The prices were decent for a NY restaurant. My husband had pasta and I had a shrimp parmisan. We would eat there again.
Editorial Review – Two-story Italian spot in Little Italy features a fountain-accented garden patio for warm weather dining.
Enjoyed ourselves – Took my sister and her friend here during a trip to the city. We were seated in the corner section in the atrium which was great since it was a sunny day. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive always topping off our drinks or asking us if we needed anything. There was a particular dish they didn't have but the kitchen made it for me anyway without hesitation which was great since it was my first time there and I was treated like a regular. We all enjoyed the bruschetta very much as well as our meals. I've read certain reviews on this restaraunt and I'm surprised to hear the exact opposite of our experience. This is the third place I've been to for dinner in Little Italy and I've always been treated very well by the staff. I would recommend this restaraunt to anyone for lunch or dinner.
"B" crew on Saturdays? – My first two visits to Il Palazzo were fantastic. The food was so good that everyone at the table wished they weren't full, so that they could eat more of the generous portions. We had Italian friends in town for the marathon and went there last night for some yummy carbs.
This time, the food was incredibly disappointing. I ordered the same dish that I had there the week before, and what a difference. The pasta was overdone and the sauce thin. The reaction of my Italian friends? A shrug and a polite "it's average." I won't be returning anytime soon.
good food – had a fettucini with a cream sauce, prosciutto, porcini mushrooms. it was excellent. had the house cabernet which was good but not great. they also put it in a small wine glass, so I couldn't swirl it and enjoy the bouquet. Top restaurants should use large size wine glasses and fill it half way. Was surprised they instead used the Olive Garden method of giving a glass of wine. Sunlit garden area made for great decor. Service was good. Pasta and wine resulted in $30 bill, which seemed standard. Would rate this a 8.9 - a definite go - but have been to even better italians in NYC.
