Every New York foodie worth their salt has graced the shrine to cheese and delicious things known as Murray's on Bleecker. It's the original Whole Paycheck store.

New York has more than its share of great cheese shops, but it would be hard not to say that Murray's is the biggest and the best. Happily, its Bleecker street location right down the block from Faicco's makes a natural shopping trip.

Terrible Service at Grand Central – I have been a loyal Murray's customer for almost 10 years, and while I usually go to the W Village location, I made a stop at the Grand Central Station location last week...HUGE MISTAKE!

The young man with glasses who helped me seemed like he didn't care less about my questions--he was very dismissive and flippant with his answers. He was having a personal conversation with a co-worker right in front of me, and most of the staff was hanging around socializing. This was early afternoon, so the store was not busy. I would hate to see this place at rush hour.

The new meat store down the hall was deserted.

I'm accustomed to some chaos (and that smell!) at the main store, but the lack of attention to service at this location was like a kick in the teeth, especially to someone who has been going to Murray's for so long. I am debating whether or not I should return to the W Village store.

Also, the Feb 9 review looks like a shill to me--it is posted VERBATIM at yelp.

Murray's, don't let PR replace the fundamentals of customer service.

The best cheese selection I have ever seen! And their staff is knowledgeable and ever-so-helpful.

We discovered Murray's a few years back and since we don't live in NYC I've had to make do with ordering online. BUT, the alternative of no Murray's cheese is far more bleak than I care to contemplate, so I suppose online ordering's okay for now.

I could go into Murray's and easily spend hours there learning about the various cheeses and enjoying the lovely cheese-funk smell.

The city's beloved cheese shop moves across the street and into the 21st century. – Founded in 1940 as a wholesale dairy distributor, the shop spent 64 years in a charmingly cramped space on the corner of Cornelia and Bleecker before crossing the street to larger digs. Cheese lovers are mourning the old space, but the bright, clean, spacious new store is at least four times larger, has a classroom and a cheese cave, and, best of all, the behind-the-counter cheese guys made the move, which means the advice and service is as good as ever. The Goods
Over 400 varieties of cheese can be found here, and it's not all esoteric French stuff like the hazelnut-infused Beaufort Alpage. Next to the Capriole Crocodile Tears and Rollingstone Chevre, you can still find Parmesan for your pasta, and, yes, sliced American. Of course, they also have all the bread and crackers you'll need to spread your cheese on.

Don't care to deal with mayhem/confusion – The new store is larger than before. However, it is lacking in customer service despite a fully staffed counter.

I tried buying some stuff, but gave up due the mayhem/confusion in the store. No one knew where the line begin/end and where/how to pay. I was sent from one end to the other end to pay. Unfortunately, no one was manning the cash register. After requesting assistance several times (and was ignored or asked to wait another minute), I decided that it was not worth the effort (after waiting for over 10 minutes).

If you value your time and don't care to deal with mayhem/craziness, have your cheese delivered via freshdirect and stay away from this store until management irons out the operation kinks and the staff knows what they are doing.

WOW! – Recommended on FoodTV, I made a pilgrimage to this store. Worth it! Great prices & service! I was allowed to take a pic. Inside. I bought cheese that was beyond words. Advice: prepare yourself w/ cheese knowledge before going. It's a small fast-paced store & it helps to know what you want in advance. However, there are MANY staffers who can suggest something better. I am going to order gift baskets for Chirstmas!

Best Cheese Shop in NYC!!! – If you're looking for the finest triple cream Brie to nibble with your champagne or some Swiss Gruyere to make that quiche sing, RUN to Murray's. They have a very knowledgeable staff, a store packed to the gills with every kind of cheese imaginable, sun-dried tomatoes, marinated mozzarella, imported olives and more in this corner shop. Family owned for over two generations, it used to be on Cornelia until they moved to this bigger shop.

I've been going for over 13 years now and the free samples alone keep me coming back as they welcome you to try new things with helpful suggestions and tasty nibbles. Goat cheese galore. Highly Recommend.

Stop at Aphrodisia across the street for herbs and spices as well as nuts and other dried goods, the two stores compliment each other beautifully.
