Best pastries ever in NY – I've been in NY over 15 yrs and haven't found any better place than this simple patisserie. Nothing really fancy or nouvelle like those at other pricy stores, but everything is true to the basic and genuinely good. Croissants, brioches, eclairs, apple pies, pear tarts, nut cookies.... everything I've tried is perfectly tasty.

To be honest, I'd rather like to keep this place secret. Many people might be feeling the same way, and that may be why this place has got only sereral reviews.

A humble patisserie in Greenwich Village churns croissants, brioche and coffee. – In Short
Confections like eclairs and meringue can be had at this nondescript Greenwich Village patisserie, but the freshly baked croissants and brioches are what fly from the glass display case. If the chocolate croissants have sold out--and they often do--Claude himself will peek out from the back kitchen to let you know when the next batch is arriving. Space is tight, but if there's room you can order in and join other French expats flecking their cheeks with buttery crumbs.

Best croissants on either side of the big pond – We live in Baltimore and travel to NYC frequently. After happening upon this small pastry shop several years ago, it has become a "not to miss" destination whenever we're in Manhattan. When you walk in and the aroma of butter hits your nostrils, you know you've found a gem. Their butter croissants are one of a kind, and better than any I had in Europe. They are flaky, crusty on the outside, and soft and buttery on the inside. The coffee is good, but if you want a remarkable cup of Joe.....walk around the corner to Waverly place and go to .......Joe, my favorite coffee shop in the city. I would recommend going early in the day and getting them when they're warm and freshest.

Claude rules! – Love Claude's pastries. Croissants, danishes, tarts... Everything is so tasty -- without being so sickeningly sweet as a lot of American desserts are.

Best in NYC hands down! Fresh baked authentic pastries every morning – This is the best kept secret in the West Village - all the locals come by every morning to pick up their buttery, flaky, perfectly delicious croissants that are baked fresh every morning. If you have traveled abroad and know what real pastries taste like - not those sugary, syrupy things - then you'll love this place and never go anywhere else again. Try the pear tarts, brioche, quiches, and pain au chocolate - they are simply heavenly. This place is relatively inexpensive compared to other bakeries in the area. This is no starbucks type place or hyped up bakery - unpretentious, simple, and QUALITY...you won't be dissappointed!!

Bette than Payard, no kidding – A small, French patisserie that is easily overlooked due to the low key appearance. Claude is the main character of the place & patissier behind the counter. Croissants and cakes are carefully handmade with a quality that is rarely found and probably unmatched in NYC. Once hooked you won't be able to resist. Don't tell anyone.

a true french patisserie – I'm from Italy and this place reminds me of the patisseries back in Europe. I couldn't find anywhere else in the city croissants, brioches and napoleons this fresh and sublime. The apple tart is simply superior to anything I have ever tasted. This place smells always of freshly baked pastries. Claude might seem grumpy at first impression, but he is actually nice and hands you his croissant with a charming "voila and merci". A true neighborhood treasure.

Je t'aime Claude! – Homemade every day by Claude and his small staff, every delicious thiing is made from the finest ingredients and family recipes passed down from his father! No kidding, folks.

What we like to call "Happiness Cake" is actually an espresso mousse that fills everyone with sublime joy; you have to try it to believe me. Grab the brioche while you can, it goes fast. The pear tart and apple tartin are simply Parisian and always excellent, as is everythiing I have ever had in the 13 years I have been going there.

He goes home for the month of August (true Frenchman) so worship his chubby little hands when you can. Take my word for it, you'll never go to the crummy places on Bleeker again. Few places compare.
