Kerala to Anfield to the West Village – Been coming here for over 10 years, always a warm welcome never let's me down. I love the lunch bargain but then also go there with my friends for dinner. Favorites are Bombay Liver or should I say Mumbai Liver, Vegetarian Thali .... can't get enough of the chicken tikka which must be because he's right next to Ottamanelli's makes sense why it is so tasty. Recently make be because it was winter I have fallen for the Biryani Shrimp. Only downside is it gets really busy on weekends, but I have gone really late like 11PM and still gotten served. Did I say bargainous specially the lunch special !!!

Unbelievable service – The velvet coated walls of the Ghandi Cafe establish your transport into another world. This being my first dining experience at an Indian restaurant, I did not know what to expect. The host ushered us to a table in the back of the long, narrow restaurant. We started our meal with meat samosas, which were piping hot from the fryer, which perfectly complimented the couple of Kingfishers we ordered. The waiter was very friendly and accomodating. He asked us where we were from and we learned a few tidbits about him and his Bangladeshi background. That human connection made the meal even more satisfying; it was a real treat and something I've never gotten from any restaurant in NYC. This place has customer service written all over it!

I ordered the Bombay Aloo (potato with spices) and my companion ordred the Lamb Kurma (lamb cooked with cream, almond, and spices in a Mughlai style). We received a table heater which the two dishes were placed upon, so as to keep them warm. We also ordered two orders of Naan (flat bread), which I suggest to eat as soon as you get it because it's less appetizing cold.

The Bombay Aloo perked up my taste buds; it was an alert type of sensation versus an alarming one. I tried my friend's Lamb Kurma, and although it was creamy (which I usually don't like), the sweetness of the cream brought out the flavors of the lamb, as well as the spices used to marinate it.

My companion and I lounged there for quite some time, and the owner/manager in charge presented us with two servings of rice pudding "on the house", which was followed by complimentary tea.

This was probably the best dining experience I've had in the city.

One thing that doesn't make this place a ten was the small, single bathroom, and the mirrors on the walls, which can be nice, but with someone as narcisstic as me, it's hard to keep your focus on the food.

Love – I'm in love with this place. I went a year ago and they were completely empty and totally sweet. Then I came back with my girlfriend on a friday night, and it was ridiculously crowded. There was no space to wait, so we had to stand outside. The owner came out and gave us some bread, telling us that we would be seated as soon as possible and basically pleading us not to leave. He said that they will be expanding soon. In New York, how many places do you know of that actually care about their customers??? Here, they do. Free tea, free rice pudding, good prices, excellent service. Plus, the place is beautiful. There is a velvety wall on one side and a huge mirror on the other, both strung with lights. It's romantic, sweet, and tasty. Easily my favorite restaurant. I live on the Upper West side but make the treck to Greenwich village regularly just the same. The Indian restaurants in my neighborhood don't compare.

The Best!!!! – Everything I have eaten here is fantastic. Everything in the appetizer sampler is delicious. I love the masala entrees. This restuarant has a huge selection compared to many Indian restaurants and everything is wonderful and fair to low priced, especially when you consider the high quality of the food.

The service is among the friendliest I have encountered in the city. They really care that you enjoy your experience. The atmosphere is wonderful. They really have made the very most of a small space.

I regularly travel over 100 blocks just to eat here. This is my favorite Indian restaurant. It has the best food, service, atmosphere, and value of any of many Indian places I have tried.

WOW indian food at its best! – This small wonderful (and romantic) place has amazing food. The service is kind (albeit sometimes slow) and thoughtful. I would definately go there for a great time and great indian food.

The Real Deal – It's fabulously cheap, it's cheerful, and the food is the real thing. My vegetable thali tasted exactly like what I ate for four weeks in India - delicious. Cheese poori wasn't so great, but we loved everything else. This is a great place for carnivores and vegetarians to eat together; the menu options are extensive for both.

Not for groups – Went here with my girlfriends on a Friday night and the food was cheap, but not delicious. You could find better Indian food elsewhere. Don't go here if you are with 4 people or more since the place is small. Our waitress mixed up my friend's order and was rude about it.
