what a mistake – I was NOT at all impressed by this place. First of all, the service was terrible - we literally had to flag the waiter down for every single thing we needed: more water, more ginger, the check, to take our credit card...he was too busy watching the tv to pay any attention and there were only THREE tables sat while we were there. Total loser.

And the maki rolls were just barely edible - the shrimp tempura roll was clearly made from pre-frozen fried shrimp, and everything else was incredibly uninspired. Looked like really bad rolls you could get from a supermarket at best - not worth the money, not worth the visit, not worth waiting for the waiter...I would avoid it at all cost!

Perfect for Pregnant Mums who LOVE Japanese but can't have sushi! – Tell the chef and he'll have amazing and deliciously creative options: Summer roll, Sunomono, King Crab Legs prepared to perfection. Last post: Board of Health? Hmm? Perhaps it was an under construction sign since they have just completed a reno. The place was healthy, alive and packed. The sushi: Grade A, Spectacularly fresh and staff wonderful. In a neighbourhood where restaurants charge you for their rent and not food, Sakura is the rare exception. A wonderful West Village jewel.

Closed By the Board Of Helath – Went there after reding all the great reviews only to find it closed with a big yellow sticker on the door from the Board of Helth.

Place got shut-down.. at least for now..

An inconspicuous spot serving traditional sushi in the West Village. – In Short
In a neighborhood rife with restaurants competing to be the trendiest, this one stands out for its lack of gimmicky decor and eclectic menu offerings. The dining room--staged with simple two-person wooden tables that can be rearranged to accommodate bigger parties--is bare bones, but the service is friendly. You're likely to be seated immediately if you choose to stay rather than take out, and the fare is consistently fresh. Sushi roll standards are a favorite, but the menu expands to specials such as the Phoenix Roll, yellowtail and scallion with spicy sauce. Generous portions make the low prices seem like even more of a bargain.

Fantastic Sushi in a Neighborhood Atmosphere – Well, there's just no place like Sakura Hana (also known simply as "Floyd's"). Floyd, the proprietor, should be a case study in customer service and customer loyalty. He's a wonderful host and will remember your name when you come back for more. And then there's the fish, fresh from the fish market every morning at dawn. Melt in your mouth sushi and sashimi. If you're under the weather, the fish soup is good for whatever ails you. It's also a great place for kids - the yaki soba noodles dish with beef or chicken and broccoli is delicious. We've tried all the other sushi places in the West Village, and nothing compares in terms of value and quality. The decor isn't particularly special, but you won't even notice it once your food arrives. So go visit Floyd, sit at the bar, and ask him to fix you whatever is good that day. If you end up going often enough, Floyd might just name a roll after you too.

The Floyd Feast! – We met Floyd back when he was running a small sushi joint called Sushi on Hudson many years ago and took an instant liking to him and his family. It became a 3-4 time a month hang out for a lot of us to meet at before a night of adult beverages... And now with Sakura Hana it's just like old times again.

Honestly, I've never once ordered off the menu and just let Floyd make a presentation of whatever he wants me to try and haven't been disappointed yet. Floyd never fails to impress with his" I have a special for you!" and then wheels out some delicacy. The fish is always amazingly fresh and certainly comparable to the most expensive sushi places in town. The staff is warm, friendly and fast with a saki bottle and Floyd (who knows everyone's name) is quick with an ear to ear grin and a happy greeting to anyone that comes in to the restaurant.

This gem just on the south skirts of the Meatpacking District should not be missed by anyone who loves great food, great service and a small bill.

Our Favorite Sushi Restaurant! – This is where my husband and I take-out sushi and we'll miss it sorely when we move. Floyd is an extremely welcoming host and his sushi can't be beat for freshness, presentation and value. Out-of-town friends dined in the back "party room" and raved about it. Our big recommendation: The Dallas roll - YUM!

Top quality / Excellent price – The food is amazing and the price is very reasonable. This nice cozy place serves fish comparable to the most expensive and well-known sushi places in the city with unbeatable prices and the friendliest environment. Do not hesitate to enjoy this place and when you go just ask Floy (the sushi "Maestro") to take care of you. You won't be disappointed.

Great Food, great value! – The rolls are delicious, the atmosphere is great, the staff is nice, and the food is extremely reasonably price. I highly recommend it. It is also great for parties, as it has a karoake room in the back for 10-15 people.
