Great Hair Salon – When I came to Hair Fashion East I was desperate. I had substantial loss of hair in my front area and needed professional help. When I walked into the salon I was immediately made comfortable by the professional and soothing ambiance. Charlise, the manager, was welcoming in her low key yet reassuring style. Shortly after, George Buckner, the owner gave me a thorough hair and scalp consultation. I was impressed by the holistic approach that both George and Charlise used in talking with me. They inquired about my health and nutritional habits. In that consultation I felt that both Charlise and George had tremendous knowledge about hair care and treatment. I was given a hair care plan to start with at home and was told to return in two weeks. I have been coming to Hair Fashion East ever since, not only because I have had considerable hair improvement, but also because Charlise, George and the hair sylists are wonderful. At Hair Fashion East I am obtaining results and feel I am being taken care of by the best in the industry.
ahhhh...I'm in heaven! – When I came here a year ago, my hair was thinning, dry and breaking badly. You know the kind. Girl, George Buckner gave it his magic, MAGIC touch! Before he even touched my hair he did an analysis of what was going on with my scalp. After that, he knew what to do. He designed a treatment plan especially for me. Now my hair is growing thick and long. I'm so glad I found Hair Fashions East. The best personal service AND quality care in New York, especially for African American hair, though they do it all. --Natalie B.
Best Hair salon! – I tried several hair salons in Manhattan, this one is the best. Takes very good care of my frizzy hair!
Good Service Severely Overpriced – While I originally rated Hair Fashions East 4 stars after a great 1st experience with Shoquasia , my 2nd and 3rd visits changed my mind.
Although the staff was very friendly to me the 1st time I came in, the 2nd time, I felt that George had a bit of an attitude with me when I asked about what my stylist what doing with my hair. Now, the 3rd time I came in, George did my hair--I will never go back again. Why?
1st of all, he smelled like he'd been drinking.
2) He was rude to me everytime I (very politely) questioned what he was doing with my hair. When he was flat ironing my hair I told him I could smell and hear my hair burning in some areas and asked if he could apply product AFTER flat ironing instead of before..he told me I was wrong, my hair wasn't burning, and continued to do it his way. I then tried to explain to him the hair style I wanted (extremely basic hair style)..which he didn't understand. When I tried explaining what I DIDN'T want (because he wasn't understanding at all) he started doing my hair the exact way I say I didn't want it and when I asked about it, he said he thought I said I DID want him to do it that way & that I shouldn't tell people what I don't want, but what I do want. (WTF? thanks for the life lesson?! -- I thought the customer is always right) Because it didn't seem like I could explain it so that he knew what I wanted and I couldn't find a pic in the book, I told him the exact way every stylist has done this hair style on me..and he still did it his way which resulted in my hairstyle having no curl the next day.
3) I got extensions which are about 4-5 inches longer than my natural hair (somewhere else b/c they're way to expensive there) before my 3rd visit. I was charged the normal price (including deep conditioner, which I did not get b/c I have extensions..he just put some conditioner on the hair I had left out..let it sit with no dryer for 5 min and washed it out .. aka a regular conditioner. I was also charged an extra $30..when I asked George about it, he said I shouldn't have been charged that price because it wasn't posted on the price list, but I'd have to wait for a refund because the receptionist went home. When I called back he was SO rude and said the salon was legally covered b/c the price says $80 and up..and when I started to ask why it was a whole $30 extra (esp w/ no deep conditioner), he interrupted me, said 'Have a nice day', and HUNG UP.
If you decide to spend your money here..DO NOT GO TO GEORGE..and be sure to ask about the price before your service because they get sneaky.

Best Hair Salon in NYC – Hair Fashions East is the salon I frequent at least twice a month for the last twenty-five years.
It is a spacious and comfortable place, owned and operated by the engaging M/M Buckner who have hand-picked and trained their courteous and talented staff to apply world-class products to my hair and scalp keeping both healthy and attractive for lo these many years.
So how does a sixty-three year old Diva sing the praises of Hair Fashions East? ... I keep coming back.
Great experience at Hair Fashion East – My daughter recently moved to NYC and found Hair Fashion East. Her hair looked so good that I decided to try it for myself. From the hair analysis, to the treatments, relaxer and cut ( by George), it was a great experience with great results. I have been receiving compliments from both friends and colleagues at work. The salon has a relaxing and professional atmosphere which I greatly appreciate. Now, I travel to NYC from South Jersey for two reasons; to see my daughter and to receive great hair care. Thanks George, Charlise, Marlene and staff!
The best Beauty Salon in NYC – As I said before this salon is one of the best salon in NYC that I have ever been to and I have been to a few of them. The atompshere is one of the best and the workers are so professional.

If You Care About Your Hair, Stay Away – I went to Hair Fashions East because I needed someone to give me a relaxer and color. George has a good reputation, so I thought, why not. My usual guy had become so pricey. I thought I can save a little during these tough economic times. Well, I was highway robbed and my hair was destroyed by George and the woman he allowed to help him. First, he gave me a bogus "treatment" to repair my "damaged hair," as verified by some strange machine that showed what he claimed were my folicles. The image was terrifying. It was only later that I realized I had seen that same image before-a few years back when my sister and I had our scalps analyzed at a Swiss salon that was later put out of business for fraud. Anyway, he said he couldn't relax my hair because I needed to undergo weeks of treatments first. So, I agreed to get a treatment and forego the relaxer since I still had faith in him at that moment. Their incompetence didn't really show through until they started combing and brushing my tangled wet hair. Everyone knows tangled wet hair shouldn't be combed or brushed roughly. Things became so bad that I had to make both the assistant and George put down the comb and brush so that I could comb what was left of my mangled hair. But that's not all...as I was combing my hair I noticed that the color/risne I was given hadn't really covered my gray. They left me with a tri-colored head-new growth that was a good three shades lighter than the rest of my hair, the regular color of my hair and the gray that wasn't fully covered. After all that nonsense, I still need what's left of my hair to be relaxed and colored. I paid $200 for a bogus treatment and a hint of a rinse; all I have to show for that stidy sum are severly broken ends, a tri-tone colored head, and a very sore scalp. My lesson was an expensive one I hope no one else ever experiences. Now, I have to pay hundreds more to fix the mess HFE caused.
Thank you for your review. Even though it was not favorable, I beg to
All our clients old and new have benefited from our telescopic monitor. It allows both client and cosmetologist to view the hair and
scalp. It also allows the client to see present conditions that need to
Hair that tangles when water is applied means the hair is chemically
damaged from relaxer, color or both. It was clear that this head of hair had not received proper hair care for awhile, that is why I refused to give the client a relaxer. Nothing we do at Hair Fashions East is ever 'bogus'. With the proper care and treatment hair that is
damaged will eventually return to good health.

As the owner of Hair Fashions East I realize that I am not going to
please everyone all of the time. One thing I know for sure that my
expertise in hair and scalp care is the foundation of Hair Fashions
What a FANTASTIC find!!! – This was no mere wash and set, my friends! George Buckner and his staff absolutely transformed my hair. I received spa-quality attention as Mr. George performed an in-depth hair and scalp assessment (incorporating video microscope technology) then put together a ?cocktail? specifically for my hair care needs. When all was said and done, my scalp felt rejuvenated, my hair was silkier than I?d ever dreamed possible, and I KNEW I looked stunning!! Hair Fashions East... where have you been all my life?!
Fantastic salon for black hair – My hair was in desperate need of relaxing, because my stylist of 2 years had moved away. I also have hair extensions, so I needed to find a salon, that could handle them as well. I found Hair Fashions East on Citysearch and truly found hair styling gold. George is by far the best stylist, I have been to and I've tried several across New York City. First there was extensive and professional consultation, where George was so kind and eloquent in explaining what treatments he would do to make my hair fabulous again. There was the extraordinary hair treatment, the delightful staff, classy environment, the tasty tea, all made the entire experience outstanding. What truly made this salon fantastic is for the service that was done on my hair, the pricing was truly reasonable. I've gone to salons, paid double, wasted my entire day and been disappointed with the result. When I left Hair Fashions, my hair was soft, luxurious and beautiful and the reason why, is that George and his team handle your hair with love.
