HORRIBLE FOOD – 1 star is one too many. The bread basket had little whole wheat rolls that could have been used for hockey pucks. The bruschetta was completely tasteless. The Caesar salad was the only good food. Tomatoes and homemade mozzarella was served on crunchy green tomatoes -- more tastelessness. The pasta primavera had frozen peas, canned mushrooms, and left over grated salad carrots... and was completely tasteless. The veal parmigiana was as tough (and tasteless) as shoe leather drowned in greasy cheese. Side pasta was more tasteless than chef boyardee. There is NOTHING to recommend this restaurant, we were shocked to see any customers there at all!

Wouldn't Recommend It – A couple of girlfriends and I decided on San Martin for our last meal in NY, being that it was so close to our hotel and all. We sat down immediately, which was great, but as each plate of food arrived at our table, we knew the food was going to be sub par. We ordered the calamari to begin with and it was as chewy as could be! I ordered the penne artista, which sounded delicious but turned out to be anything but. My two girlfriends ordered spaghetti with meatballs and the penne arrabiata. The meatballs tasted like cinnamon and the texture of canned dog food. The arrabiata was definitely the best choice of any dish, but still not anything to rave about. Our meal was ended with the cheesecake and tiramisu. The cheesecake was pretty good, but the tiramisu was a great disappointment. My friend had never tried tiramisu before and after tasting this one, she never will again. On the plus side, the wine was always served to the brim!

home away from home – Hello! San Martin Restaurant. We finally find a place where we felt like home. Nice spot, convenient Midtown location near Waldorf Astoria, Marriott, W. Hotels. The place is full of tourists from all over the world, where you can hear the staff speaking several languages. Very impressive menu and during the lunch time you can get a three course meal for $19. Wow. Great food, friendly and happy staff. It's a winner.

Delightful dinner to finish our trip – We had the best time at our last dinner in New York before departing for home. San Martin is a quiet, sophisticated and cosmopolitan place to enjoy a memorable evening with good friends. We shared a couple of plates of calamari for everyone and I had the Bistecca Pepe Rosso (an all American Sirloin). Everything was just great. Good wine, good company, good food. I’ll be back again for certain.

terrible. – An exceptionally terrible restaurant, which prompted me to write this review, something I rarely do. I was there with a larger corporate group. The service was indifferent. My mozzarella with tomato and basil appetizer was a joke. (Note to the chef: when produce is not in season, don't put it on the menu.) Green, tasteless tomatoes, sloppy slice of mozzarrella doused in oil and two basil leaves. My entree, capellini with tomato sauce was a disgusting mess of overly garlicky, salty sauce (which was no better than the brands in a jar) slopped over some overcooked pasta. The wine was cheap and gave me a supreme headache.

There are so many fantastic restaurants in NYC, with food and wine that will blow your mind, don't waste your money in this dingy midtown tourist trap.

CoZy SpoT ! GreAt FoOd iN MidTowN !! – Decided to try this place out after a friend of mine recommended it. I must say I was impressed with their menu selection. There were so many dishes to choose from that it took me a little longer to decide which one I wanted. I love variety.

I ended up having the fried calamari appetizer (perfectly crunchy and I didn't have to chew each piece for an hour...lol!) and my date had the tomato and mozzarella appetizer and she loved it.

Overall the food was incredible and the service great. Not too much on top of you but always around when I needed something. It's almost like the waitress could read my mind!

Worst and expensive food in NY! – We had a horrible dining experience at San Martin New York. Expensive. Horrible food. Old Building

Don't even try to order flan or a tiramisu (they used whipping cream instead marcapose cheese!!!)

Poor Service – The food was good but definitely overpriced. The service was spotty since our wait staff seemed somewhat uppity. Wait staff must have thought acting snooty translated into "high-class." Hardee har har...

The restaurant itself is cozy and beautiful. The crowd tends to be older folk either there for business or socialites catching up w/ friends.

The only way I'd go back to San Martin is if it's on company expense.

Do not go here! – Bad service, bad food, long wait, too pricey!!!! After eating half of my meal, and tried to get the waiter's attention, I had to wait nearly half an hour! I would of had to jump up an down and shout to get the hell outta there. If you have a choice in the matter do not go here!

Avoid at all costs – For an $$$ restaurant I expected much more. I would of been better off eating at Sbarro for a satisfying experience. The food was mediorcre and the service was awful - some of the worst I've experienced ever. I did not know who our waiter was, over 4 different waiters came to our table - the "wait" is all we got. We had to wait forever to order dessert and wait another half an hour before our check arrived, only to find out that they had given us the wrong check. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone, unless they want to waste three hours and $70 - $100!
