RUN AWAY FROM ALFANGI !!!! I wish i could put no stars for their rating. :( :(
HAIR- I don't ever write reviews because places are normally predictable. BUT ALFANGI SALON FIRED MY HAIR OFF! My hair is so damaged now, it looks like I stuck my head in the toaster. I feel that no one in this office has a license to practice what hey are doing. I think they hire and train foreign people and pay them next to nothing.
MASSAGE- Also while I got a massage I happened to open my eye to see a huge bug crawling around. DISGUSTING... I was just starting to feel relaxed after my hair was destroyed. After that i felt so uncomfortable.... the person giving the massage was nice but completely unprofessional.... and felt like he was hitting on me the whole time.
PRICE- So at the end of the day I paid around 500 dollars to be dick-ed around. YUP!! The price list that comes with the PROMO is not the REAL price list. They said they changed there prices this year... well guess what we are 6 months into this year....I really with I could sue them.
Service- at least everyone was pretty friendly but as soon as I paid they treated me like dirt. They we constantly speaking another language right in front of me.
Worst Experience ever! – came out of sephora in times square and immediately got harassed by one of the sales people. he wouldnt leave us alone, and told us about his "marketing people" who were sitting nearby. the reason "marketing people" is in quotations is because all they were doing was smoking, spitting, and winking at us. we wouldnt answer the guy and he kept asking us stupid questions. he didnt know anything about any of the salon services and was reading completely off of the pamphlet. his "marketing people" came over and were asking us personal questions. overall, they were annoying and shouldnt be harassing people in times square. the whole thing seemed like a scam and none of them were professional.
BEST SALON SERVICE I'VE EVER EXPERIENCED!! – If you haven't been to Alfangi on Lex yet I HIGHLY reccommend it!! I had a certificate I used a few months ago and was very pleased with every service (Hair cut, style, blow dry dry; manicure; facial; massage). The staff are terrific and the quality of work is impeccible.
I had a similar certificate to a different salon that I tried Friday night and all I can say about that place is RUN. Since this is not a review of "horrible salon" I'll leave out all the gory details but long story short I asked for a trim and she butchered my hair and hacked off 10+ inches and left it uneven!! I was hysterical - we are talking almost waist long hair hacked to above shoulder length! I remembered ALGFANGI was close by so I went in there - and mind you this is now about 730pm on a Friday - and the entire staff was so welcoming and accommodating and sympathetic. They called the stylist Mina who had already left for the day and she came back to the salon to fix my hair and she did an incredible job! I cannot thank them enough! They reall went above and beyond and even though it was technically closing time for them they never made me feel like I was keeping them or that they were in a hurry to get rid of me. They were as concerned with my final outcome as I was.
If you are looking for a Salon in NYC that is convenient, affordable, professional and all around a relaxing and welcoming place to be in then Alfangi on Lex is the perfect fit!!
Worst Experience EVER!!! – I have never been so unbelievably offended in my entire life. I'm another sucker who was accosted in Union Square and convinced I was purchasing a deal. The stylist I had had mediocre English, so a pushy, rude, woman came over to help. She told me my hair was terrible. That i had to pay another $80 to get the highlights i needed to balance the color. She then told me it made me look ugly. When I told her she was being rude and asked her to please stop, she continued to badger me about my hair and then likened a hair stylist to a dentist. "If a dentist tells you that you have a cavity in your tooth, you'd get it fixed. This is the same". Wow...
Funny enough, I asked for the woman's business card, after which she hands me a generic salon card. I asked the woman at the front desk for this rude woman's name and position and it turns out.......she's the owner!!! Her name is Maya Amram and she is by far the rudest woman I have ever encountered. The biggest waste of money and time. I prefer not to pay to have someone be that rude to me.
AVOID! Worse experience ever at a hair salon – **AVOID AVOID AVOID***
I made the mistake of buying a promotion card to this place. First, they made me pay the $15 product fee and said if I paid with a credit card, they would charge me extra. About 15 minutes after I arrived, I was informed the stylist I made an appointment with (Mina) wasn't there. The manager told me all her stylists are "professionals" and turned me over to another stylist. I wish I remembered his name, but I don't. He proceeded to show me his portfolio (he has done Miss Universe and people I didn't know). He said he takes before and after photos of his clients and insisted on showing them to me. I said I was short on time and trusted that he did good work. This apparently offended him. He said I needed to do half-head highlights and he would do it for $120. I said I couldn't spend that today and was going home for Christmas and was having highlights and lowlights done by my stylist there. He kept pushing and said he'd do it for $90. I said I couldn't and just wanted the 6 foil highlights that came with the package. He then told me my hair was damaged and I needed to pay for keratase treatment. Again, I said no; I explained I'm looking for a job and planning a wedding and couldn't pay extra this time. With that, he said he wouldn't do "cheap hair" and just doing 6 foils would be cheap. He walked over to the receptionist and said we "weren't connecting" and to assign me to someone else.
I asked to talk to the manager. The manager came and said that the stylist told her that I had an attitude and told the stylist not to talk to me (which wasn't true) and that it's the stylist's job to tell you what to do with your hair. I said that's fine if they make recommendations, but I couldn't pay the extra money this time and that made him upset. I said I'd now been there for 30 minutes and just wanted the cut and 6 foils in the package. She got mad at me for saying this and said it was my fault and I was giving her attitude.
I was then passed over to Carlos. When he put the 6 foils in, he did them more than half an inch away from the root! I asked him to please put the highlight closer to the root (the whole point of highlights is to cover up the roots) and he said he was. He was very nice and polite. However, when I got home and look at my hair closely, I was shocked at how awful the highlights looked because they were placed so far from the roots! In addition, the highlights aren't uniform--they are more bleached in some places than others and there are strands that aren't highlighted at all, except for a blob of bleach in one spot! It's like he had never done highlights before. I will now have to go to my regular stylist and pay to have him fix it.
In summary, do not go to this salon! If you have any problems, the manager will blame you. It's not worth any amount of money when the results are so poor.
Alfangi On Lex is the best Salon because of Lon Myles! – I live in Long Island but I troop it to 40th and Lex every 6 weeks to have my hair done by Lon. He is the absolute best and I will not have my hair done by anyone else. He is a fantastic colorist and always does my highlights to perfection. I've been using Lon for years and I highly recommend him. As soon as I leave the salon I start getting complements and my friends are always asking me who does my hair. Lon is only at Alfangi a few days a week every 6 weeks so you better book him fast! He takes his skills all over the world!
You'll LOVE it! – Perfect spot.
I just had my Japanese relaxer done and it came out phenomenal and not the mention what a great experience, considering is a lengthy process of about 4 hours. I was truly pampered and came out feeling and looking like a star. Compliments from all my family and friends I received. Thank you Nando!

Always a lovely experience – I get my extensions done here with with Nando - fabulous hair and Nando is superb. I also come weekly for a blow dry and I always leave feeling great! People are pleasant & always accomodating. Overall, a great experience - every time.
great experience – My daughter bought me a promo package for Christmas. I was skeptical because of some bad reviews but went ahead with it (last Friday, Feb 25). Either the bad reviews were exaggerated or they (the salon) took them to heart and addressed the issues because we could not have had a better experience! The receptionist (Brianna) was very friendly when making the appontments and explaining what was included in the promo and was equally so when we got to the salon. Ernest was my stylist and he was very helpful in helping me pick a style that would suit me. I only went with what was included in the promo and he explained that he would only be able to do but so much with only 6 foils but there was no "hard sell" to get me to do more than I wanted. The woman who shampooed my hair (I neglected to get her name) did a wonderful massage while shampooing. Ernest gave me a great cut and I couldn't have been more pleased! When he was done I said I wished I HAD gotten more than the 6 foils and that I would definitely come back. I didn't book "day 2" when I made the initial appointment and they were booked for Saturday (and I live 5 hours away) but I will definitely go back for the facial , manicure and massage. Thank you again Ernest!!
Color Rescue – I had some truly horrible hair happening and Celia rescued it. She even found some magazines so I could show her the color I actually wanted instead of having to interpret my cryptic "chocolately reddish" . She literally held the model's picture up to my skin so we could look at the color. Then she found swatches and matched it to my skin tone. I was very impressed.
Two and a half hours later after sipping a glass of iced tea and some fantastic lemonade I had a gorgeous head of hair. Thank you so much Celia!
