Superb – Came here as a team holiday lunch today.
It's a huge menu with a lot of options. To make the decision easier, I opted for the $35 prixe fixe lunch menu.
The table olive oil was very good with the bread.
The soup of the day was minestrone. It was a bit oilier than I expected.
I had the Rigatoni Sorrentino as my main. It was DELICIOUS! The fresh mozzarella topping, the cheesy sauce--absolutely divine. Portion size was generous. I had to doggie bag half.
The dessert options were arrayed on a cart at the front of the restaurant. It was pushed table side for our perusal and selection. I had the napoleon cake with coffee for dessert.
I've never seen coffee as part of a prixe fixe, it's usually extra.
Horrible place to eat – I was really looking forward to a good Italian meal on this trip to NYC. However, Patsy's did not fill the bill. It was way over priced. The service was poor and the food wasn't even that great. The string beans were mushy (obviously from a can). The salmon was very very hot which led me to believe that it was microwaved. The head waiter was very "snuty" and wouldn't even let me wear my coat in the dinning room. I will never go back to this restaurant. For two people the bill was over $100.
Stunning – We had a great last night here. The food was first class and the waiters are so old school with their uniforms and standards. I loved the sweet trolley which I haven't seen for years in a restaurant. Loved it and will definitely return next trip.
Worst quality food on 7/28/2008 – The pasta e fagioli soup was bubbling, very thick, and extremely sour, from fermentation. Do not sell spoiled food to your customers!
Waaaaay overrated. – I've been looking forward to eating at this legendary NYC Italian restaurant for years and had the opportunity this past weekend. To say it was a disappointment would be an understatement. It was downright displeasurable. For starters, it reeks of the mob. A good third of the clientele and staff are capable of giving you "the eye" at a drop of a crumb. I had to eat my meal with blinders in fear of being handed a kiss and black rose by the guy sitting next to me. My crime? I believe I looked in his direction for a second. Other notable letdowns included slow service - even when the restaurant was 1/4 full, bland unheated bread, entrees which were okay at best, a slice of decent tiramisu and single shot of espresso that cost $20.00 (I had to decipher this as it wasn't itemized in our bill and was only labeled "c/d." Can you say - Scam?) Our waiter was also pushy. As soon as we sat, he mentions that the lasagna was good. Okay - thanks. But when we placed our order, he ignores us and once again repeats - "the lasagna is good." In all fairness, however, the lentil soup was fantastic. Too bad everything went down hill from there. As such, I would have to rate this place as below average considering the level of service, comfort, and quality of food vs. its price.
Now, if you guys are like me, you'll likely ignore my review and chalk it up as a fluke. And perhaps you would be right - and I hope so actually. But, let me suggest another Italian restaurant that has never ceased to amaze me or my guests over the last 15 years. IL Corallo Trattoria on 176 Prince St. 212-941-7119. It is a small place situated in the heart of Soho that's equally busy and served by exceedingly friendly and unpretentious staff. Most of the 40+ entrees are around $12.00 and their tiramisu is to die for. Best of all, you can actually enjoy your meal without the fear of somehow triggering off the time-bomb with elbows at the adjacent table.
Super Pasta – This is an old school italian restaurant...the photos of Sinatra, Tony Bennet, etc....The pasta is delicious. It's very New York. I highly recommend it.
Best service anywhere- Joe and Frank meet you and welcome you into their home- Sal settles you in for the treat – I've been eating lunch and an occasional dinner at Patsy's for over 12 years.
Joe, the second owner (his father was the first) is my age 60+ and can tell stories about when my father used to have lunch there with Jules S..., a former President of the NY Athletic Club. If you would like a lesson in the History of NYC...you must stop in for a late lunch.
Sal, Joe's son is not only the head chef, but the head historian...Dad passed it along. Have Sal tell you the story about Rush L. and the Thanksgiving Dinner Sal made for him when the restaurant was closed one year. Also, watch for Sal on many of the national TV shows. By the way, pick up their book and have Joe, Frank and Sal sign it!
A little about Frank, the person that greets you on arrival - Frank is elegant without being snooty- folks, he is there to help. If all is not as you expected, let Frank know and it will be fixed.
Last, my favorite chef, Sal- He shows up at your table to find out if all is well and doesn't take offense if it is not- let him know and you'll be pleasantly surprised by what he does for you!
Last, I feel as though I'm at my best friends home and treated as family. Become part of the Patsy's family, you'll come back every chance you get.
This reads like a commercial, but believe me, it's not! I'm just a guy, along with his family that loves being pampered the NYC way and Patsy's is the best. .....Oh ask Frank for a generous portion of the Teramisu(sp)for desert...to die for!

Like Italian should be... – We wen to this place on a whim, because Frank Sinatra used to eat there. What a great find... the waiters were in tuxedos (so I'd dress up a little) and were vert attentive. All of the food was delicious! I had linguine with pesto, and it was great. I also tried a friend's tortellini Bolegnese, and it was fabulous. Another friend's mushroom ravioli had a strange flavor. For dessert, I had a plate of raspberries and whipped cream - I've never seen something so simple in a restaurant before, but after such a filling meal, it was really the perfect ending. Can't wait to go back!
I had a wonderful time! – We were greeted when we walked in to the beautiful downstairs dinning room by a lovely gentleman who although had never met us treated us like old friends. After ordering one of the best perfect manhattan's we have had in a while.....we were led up stairs to our table, greeted by the waiter and told the specials. The wine selection was plentiful offering a favorite, the food was perfection itself and the dessert a sin. To top the evening off we were given a lovely black bag with a jar of Patsy's sauce....now I ask what is better than great food great wine and a gift? A true New York restaurant with wonderful New York waiters.
