The Best and Most Luxuriant Italian Restaurant in the World! – San Domenico is the best Italian restaurant in the world, case closed! Once you dine at SDNY you will never want to have Italian food anywhere else. The menu is sophisticated and elegant. Tony May's SDNY welcomes you from the moment you enter. Impeccable service that's warm and hospitable for real. Everyone feels like a pasha! The decor is glam. The bar is wonderful with the ever charming Renato as the bartender. Where else can you find such a elegant wine list and the sommelier Piero has a genuine interest in helping you find the right wine to pair with your dinner. Loved Stefano one of the managers. Chef Odette has a found a way into your soul. She teases the palette with the most delectable dishes. I loved the trademark dishes but Odette has her own signature as well. And she has a refined touch- her dishes speak for themselves. Tony May is a legend and he has made SDNY as alluring as his history. He is like a generous teacher with his guests. The real secret of SDNY is the DEvine Marisa May. She's darling and lovely to everyone and her attention to detail and your experience is the hallmark of SDNY. And of course the DEvine, DEvine menu. Romance everywhere. Steps from the Park, SDNY is the best and most luxuriant Italian restaurant in the world!

Best Italian Restaurant in the world! – Excellent Food, Excellent Sevice, Excellent Ambience, Excellent Hospitality

The greatest Italian restaurant in the world!

Everything is exceptional here - from the homemade pastas to the fish dishes to the meat dishes.

San Domenico NY is the one and only institution for the real Italian cuisine, outside of Italy. It is a first class trip to Italy in every way, without the jet-lag!

Okay but wouldn't return – Service-VERY attentive. Our table would have been much more comfortable had they been less attentive. By this, I mean they hovered...some people might like this, not us. Upon sitting down, we were given a small metal pale of stemmy vegetables that were far from appetizing. I appreciate the healthy alternative to bread and like vegetables but, no thanks. The food was okay. I was expecting some great Italian...and the food was rather bland. Also, the majority of the people in the restaurant were in their 80's. The place was just "blah."

Ok... – Good food, average service, good location. However, given that the Time Warner building and Trump is across the street, there are other food options available. I wouldn't say this was a memorable dining experience, but it is definitely give you solid good food and isn't overtly overpriced. For a restaurant on closer to the high end side than not, it is a good choice. Again, nothing memorable, but did not have a bad experience, either...

I would never suggest it to an italian tourist. Disappointing. – I was born in Rome and lived there for most of my life, I've tried thousands of italian restaurants all over the country and some of the best ones too. I was raised by an italian mamma universally renowned as a great cook. So I can say that I'm not at all an unexperienced reviewer.

The place. Never in my life, in any of the restaurants I visited in Italy or throughout Europe, I felt so much treated as an "Economy Class" visitor, though paying as much as the ones in First Class. The main room on the right with candles on the nice rounded tables, comfortable sofas and a view on Central Park. And then the Economy room on the left with squared and long tables that made impossible any attempt at conversation, being it too noisy. In Europe we have the same cheap chairs in public high-schools! Huge mirrors on the walls that don't help at all to create an atmosphere.

The food. I laughed when I saw the menu. Spaghetti cacio e pepe (one of the poorest and simplest plate of the roman tradition) were charged 24$. It's as if an american restaurant in Rome would charge 20 euros for a plate of macaroni and cheese!!! The quantity of food was abnormously out of proportion with the price charged for it. As an appetizer I chose "Cannoli di polenta croccante" that were charged 24.50$. Cannoli is a plural word in italian. But I received only one single and tiny cannolo, lost in the huge whiteness of the plate. The quality could be considered only slightly superior to average in Italy, but I imagine that in the States is valued as excellent. But most of all for the same price in Italy you would eat in a restaurant where your eyes would roll over in pleasure.

The bill. Out of proportion with the quality and quantity of the food. I'm not complaining on the price itself, because I've paid even much more in some italian restaurants. But eating much better and much more. At the end they added a 14$ Tiramisu that we didn't eat and I made the waiter notice it.

Great Lunch – First of all I eat out primarily for the food (especially if its a solo lunch) and the food here was quite good. The service was barely ok, the waiters are fun to watch but I had to ask for water 5 times. The decor is nothing great but not offensive. But the food.... I had a perfectly cooked mixed greens dish followed by a nice cut of bass in a simple but tasty vegetable herb broth followed by a beautiful eggless custard cream topped with strawberries and finally some complimentary homemade cookies that went perfectly with the espresso. To top off the great food the owners daughter was quite nice and had an after dinner drink sent to me. Ill be back for dinner with my girlfriend to explore the menu a bit more.

Just Awful – This restaurant costs too much and delivers too little. There is no reason to pay $23 for a single ravioli. Food is dull, flavorless. Nothing is terribly tasty. Service is lackluster. Don't ask the hostess or watiers for anything special. They'll tell you they will do things for you and then completely ignore you. If you feel like paying $15 for a salad and $20 for a plate of spaghetti because you want to eat with the "beautiful people", then come here, but if you're more about good food and nice decor (San Domenico is so ugly with no real atmosphere), go someplace else.
