Good lunch sandwiches. – We visited this restaurant right after checking into our hotel. I ordered the fish sandwich and my friend got the grilled cheese. We were both very pleased, and by NY standards this place was not expensive. The cole slaw also had a "kick" of horseradish which I like and think I will start to make mine that way. The service was a little impersonal. One of the best things about this place was the outdoor seating, which is scarce in NY. We didn't try the cheesecake, too full. But sounds like we didn't miss much, so don't sell this place short just because of the bad reviews it was great for lunch!
Overpriced and small portions – This place was recommended to us by someone. While in NY we had to stop and check it out. We actually tried to go there on Saturday night around midnight and it was closed. I thought everything stayed open late in NY? The piece of cheesecake was very small (for New York Standards) and just as expensive as the other places that server huge pieces. The coffee and hot tea cost $3.99 each.
I would not recommend this place to anyone.
Stay away from this tourist trap on the theatre disctrct. The food is bland and the portions are small compared to it's king size competition. They say their cheesecake is world famous but in my opinion that's only because it's a busy New York corner. Do yourself a favor and walk accross the street to the Stage Delicatessen (see my review) or to the Carnegie Deli a block up.
Tourist Trap - BEWARE!!!! – I feel so violated because I am a New Yorker and I know what good cheesecake tastes like and what it costs. I walked in and asked to buy a slice of cheesecake and didnot ask for the price first. And they were pleased to tell me $8.75 for a piece of tasteless cheesecake. What?! The sign that they were the world's best drew me in after years of walking right past the place! I should of just kept on walking and so should you! The place was empty at lunch time so I should have taken a hint!
Super-SLOW service, Bland Food, Easy to get a table – The only thing going for Lindy's is that there was NO wait. This place had the worst food & the worst service. We waited for 15-20 minutes before our order was taken. Once our drink order was taken, we had to wait 15 minutes before the waiter brought our drinks, but he forgot one of those drinks for ANOTHER 10 minutes. They were out of certain food & condiments. At one point, our waiter was watching a football game on TV while we were waiting on dressing for a salad. The staff was rude & unhelpful & the food was SO expensive for being so bland & boring. I would not step foot in this restaurant again when you can get much better food & service anywhere around there.
NO WAY! – My hotel was across 7th Ave from this branch of Lindy's. Went in one night late after a show for a piece of cheesecake to take back to my room & enjoy with a little TV. Had already had the cheesecake at Carnegie Deli, just a block away. Got helped right away, staff seemed friendly. BUT, when I got to my room & settled in for my treat-YUCK! I threw it away-did not want to waste the calories. Cheesecake was not as rich & creamy as Carnegie's (not as big, either, but that's a good thing!). Cannot remember if the crust was regular or crumbs, but either way it was tasteless & soggy.
