Brooklyn Dinah, nothin' finah! Well, no diner finer on 57th Street, at least! Crazy high prices, but for a supercomforting pastrami on rye or a real chicken noodle soup with challah, this is the best Midtown West choice. Top it off with an egg cream, a milkshake or a cheesecake for the caloric equivalent of the Coney Island Cyclone -- dangerous, but you're glad you did it.

Yes, The Brooklyn Diner is a theme restaurant, a shameful self-parody catering to tourists. We know that. But the food is much better than you expect, and it comes in truly gigantic portions (if that sort of thing matters to you.)

Great food and service – Great food and quick/friendly service. food a tad bit pricey but it's downtown New York, so what do you expect. overall a good place to sit down and eat.

Nice Diner – I went in expecting something not so formal and was pleasantly surprised with their attempt at elegance. They do get a lot of people into the place, but we didn't have to wait for a seat at 7:30 PM. It wasn't too loud and we could have a nice conversation. The wait staff was pleasant enough and attentive to water and drinks through out the meal. My husband loves hamburgers and said this one was good, but not $17 worth of goodness. I had the "Perfect Plate" with hummos, salmon and salad which was a perfect amount of food and quite tasty. It did seem expensive for the title "diner" but probably about right for what they offer in midtown NY.

Great Breakfast! – After reading the bad reviews I was surprised, because we had a great experience. Perhaps they have tightened things up a bit, or maybe we just got lucky. However, we ordered breakfast, were seated and served promptly, and the service was great. I ordered the Fritatta and my friend ordered an omellette. Both were wonerful. Definitely get the Polenta, it is to die for. (Only in our house we call it fried mush...LOL). Coffee was fresh and tasty. They serve real cranberry chutney and you couldn't ask for better.

Brooklyn Dinner?!! Yeh Right!!! – I am originally from Brooklyn, and this place is very far from Brooklyn diners, service slow and waiter was a complete ditz who seemed to be half a sleep. No one ever offered a coffee refil, food is ok but nothing to write home about.

Please keep in mind that they charge 15% tip

I would say skip this place all together

Not the finer diner! – If waiting for 15 minutes for coffee or a water refill and cold food brought to you after waiting 1/2 hour is your thing then this may be your new fav spot. The service has always been bad but the food was good so it felt worth it. They may have new management or something because it has become increasingly worse recently. If you love The Irving and Gina as much as we us, do yourself a favor and have it delivered. Good brunch food but NOT worth the experience. Awful service, hectic atmosphere and uninterested management

Good and large portion – We ate at this restaurant this weekend. The food was very good and the portion were just huge. We tried the hamburger "of the house", the tuna sandwich and the chicken BBQ sandwich. Everything was very good and the waiter was very nice. I recommand this place.

Beware! – Beware of this restaurant! Just because the word "diner" is in the name. You will be spending a lot of money on average food! I ordered a cheeseburger with fries. The cheeseburger was just OK. The fries were awful - dry and tasteless. The Strawberry Blond Cheesecake was very good, but was way too much for one person. My bill for just myself came to over $28! Next time, I'll just go to MacDonalds for yummy cheeseburgers and fries for a lot less money!!

Nice tourist spot...extremely busy during lunch – place is ok but small and crowded. prices are average for the area. I had the Cuban Skirt steak which was good. Extremely busy during lunch...20min wait for seating

Hidden Treasure! – My best friend and I were nervous about trying a "diner" for dinner while visiting the Big Apple from Los Angeles. (We now live in New England - Go SOX!) We were pleasantly surprised by the prompt and attentive service. Waiters are in tux updo's and their Veggie burger is to DIE for! Fries are awesome -crisp and fresh. The Hummus is so fresh and delightful as well. Trust me, when I comes to food, my best friend and I travel the U.S. in search of good food. We've been back to NY three times and we always stop at Brooklyn Diner!

An unexpected pleasure – I was skeptical when my friends suggested dinner here during a recent NYC visit--surely there were better dining choices in the area to experience than a DINER, I thought. Well, was I in for a surprise! The cuban-style steak with plantains and rice & beans I ordered was as good as I'd expect to find in an upscale Cuban restaurant; my boyfriend's tenderloin steak was not only huge but perfectly cooked. The chicken pot pie special of the night was literally an entire PIE, and looked delicious. I couldn't resist trying the double chocolate pudding pie for dessert and it was well worth the calories. Match the great food with reasonable (for New York) prices, decent wine by the glass, and efficient service, and you definitely have a winning choice. I would happily return!
