good guinness – nice bar, good food and excellent personable staff.i went there several times and had a good time .i came back to book a party and had the mispleasure of seeing the manager in action.the way he spoke to people on the phone, his staff .his expletive language and his general obnoxious demeanor could only mean that he is also the owner because surely no other owner would give this surly ignoramus a job;(i actually met a waitress crying in the bathroom)needless to say the party wasnt booked there .
Horrible service and food! – My family has been going to Clancy's since it opened and it has continued to go downhill. I called to make a reservation for 12 people and the manager was completely rude as if I was wasting his time. I have been there many times before and know that this place is NEVER busy. Once we arrived, his attitude continued and we were served raw meat and horrible food. This place is a dime a dozen and if you are not even going to get good service, I suggest going some place else.
Great private party – We had our daughter's birthday party in the private dining room in back. It was the day of the crane collapse and the street was closed off. Red made sure that the NYPD gave our guests access. My guests said they enjoyed the food (I forgot to eat? LOL). The staff was very accommodating and flexible. The price was right. I would definitely recommend this location for your private party!!!
pros 3 out of the last 5 posters wont be there – Dont want to get into a debate with the last 3 postesr who disparage my contribution to citysearch when all 3 have made a grand total of 4reviews.(you pointed out i only made one review)All 3 only clancys and the last knucklehead when to the trouble of giving some other joint a favourable review on the same day they gave Clancys a bad one in order to show they"get around"and arent all bad. These are clearly people with axes to grind.I came on here when my friends(all clancys regulars)pointed out your negativesAND YES I DID CHECK WITH THE BARTENDERS AS I AM REGULAR .(are you and your "buddies"regular anywere)just as i thought .....you are full of it.How do you know the 2 people at the end of the bar were alcoholics????because they werent drinking or asking for water?Just the kind of comment id expect from people being removed from a bar.troublemakers
Horrible staff, worthless bar – Ok, I've been to my share of bad bars. This one is by far the worse. I see that there are some posts on here raving about how they have "the best pint" or "the best guiness". I don't even know how to respond to that, suffice to say that I like Guiness enough to know that it's consistent between bars. Some others have been saying it's a good place to watch sports. I... guess... that... means... they... have... TVs? Talk about novel concepts!
On to the negatives:
1) Rude bar staff. The waitress was rude from the getgo. I find out later that she's pregnant, which I will forgive her for, but please, don't use that excuse for being a crabby person. If you feel like being unfriendly, stay at home. And the bartender... yells at me and my friends for asking for a water so we can sober up a little before heading out (after buying about 5 drinks each, and we had a large group). Since when did yelling at customers become the way to go? But the rotund midget bouncer was comical.
2) Dead spot. I thought bars on Friday nights in NYC were supposed to have customers? We were the ONLY PEOPLE THERE except the two alcoholics at the near-end of the bar.
3) Dishonest businessmen posting fake reviews: Notice that coochykoo, in his only post on citysearch, defends this bar in his response to mmling while mentioning details that weren't even implied by mmling's post--such as mmling being "thrown out"--which I can only imagine coochykoo only knew because he was there throwing him out and being an assinine shmuck.
I don't really see any redeeming qualities here. I think there are enough posts on citysearch to corraborate my experiences with the horrible bar staff. But if you wanted to be treated poorly and disrespected, this is the place to go, I guess!
Real bar for Real people. No idiots,no exceptions – Ive been going to clancys for years and never had a problem. In fact i go there because theres never any trouble with customers or bartenders.there are never any doormen never. So i dont know what the asian customer was talking about or if he was in the right place.I can honestly say that if there was a problem and you were thrown out it was one of the bartenders and you deserved it.I hate how someone can come on here and trash my local boozer with no evidence.maybe if you were buying alcohol(it is a bar)instead of water the alleged problem probably wouldnt have occured.in fact im glad you were allegedly removed becuse it means the great bartenders can pay more attention to the drinking customers and not giving water to people like you .Do readers really think this place would be in business for so long treating $400 customers r badly .if you spend 5 dollars or 5000 and are an idiot at 230am then im afraid its the end of your night there and i love this place because of it.$400 on your daddys creditcard is not a license to be a jerk.Im going for a pint(MAYBE MORE) now in peace to the only place on 2nd avenue that DONT HAVE DOORMEN.this shows the clientele it attracts,.So people go there and make your own minds up and dont listen to the waterboy who had a $400 check(allegedly) and managed to get thrown out of a bar with no doormen..........Yes folks you have to be quite a tool for this to happen and then to suggest that race or religion was to blame or implied is laughable.fantastic bar and no idiots ever
This place is AWFUL! – Rude waitstaff and holier-than-thou bartenders is the hallmark of this otherwise run-of-the-mill Irish pub. Is it that horrible to serve a customer who spends and tips well? I am surprised by the surly service here and why people flock here for soccer games. It's beyond me how this place stays in business. Only positive is that it's clean (or at least seemingly so), and that you can leave and go to many other bars on 2nd Avenue who actually are happy to have your business (novel concept, I know).
Avoid at all costs – You should come here if you want: (1) rude service from the waitress who can't give you the time of day -- even though the bar is 1/4 full; (2) even ruder bartenders calling your Asian friend a derogatory term when your group spends more than $400 on drinks in three hours and you want to order a couple waters; (3) meathead bouncers who pushes people around, and doesn't think twice before putting others -- two females -- in harms way in trying to get their message of "we don't like your kind here even if you gave us a ton of business"; and (4) managers who feigns apology for the actions that transpired in points 1-3, then mockingly yells "shalom" to your Jewish friends as you leave and they lock their doors behind them -- on a Friday night at 2:30am.
If there are negative stars in the rating system, this is the one place that deserves it.
BRIAN THE BARTENDER – Just came to city for first time and im from Fort Worth Texas.never , have my wife and i been made so cofortable and welcome.Brian the irish bartender had been there and we swapped stories whilst he attended to the busy bar with happy regulars.Sampler platter for 17 bucks was Texas size and we were even asked if the t.v we were watching suited us as there was 5or6 diferent things going on.Brian made us a list of places to go and even played some Hank jr on his ipod.we went back every nite for a nightcap.i had to write this review hoping that others reading can have as good time as nyc can intimidate some visitors..I was introduced to some of the regulars and had a ball..Guinness with a shamrock, beautifully poured.cant wait to go back.truly awesome pub.dont hesitate .cheers Chuck and Eadie
