beautiful and friendly – Recommend Takako
Very sweet, very thorough and detailed.
She knew what I wanted and made great suggestions.
I came out like a doll. :) Love it!
Waiting and waiting.. – Horrendous experience. As a returning customer, I was made wait for an hour before gettting my hair washed. Then more waiting. Nobody even made an effort to tell me there was a delay, the hair stylist seemed oblivious to the fact I was sitting beside him for an hour while he was ingnoring me and the manager/other staff seemed not to notice or care either! I mean if this is top salon standard for NYC, it certainly won't be for long unless management starts paying attention to what matters: Customer Service. In this case, a complete lack of it.
disaster hair cut! – It's my first time I have ever had the worst experience in my whole life. I went through hell stressed my self. Think of someone took took something from you. Runining your hair can be very traumatic. Anyone who say it's only hair, let's see how you feel ofter your hair is ruined. Your hair is part of your appearance. You need to do what the client want, know what the best frame the face, it's everything. Actually I was very happy with my hair, and was look so beautiful, I did want to do nothing, but "ANTHONY" Jr. Stylist, ask me to do a little thing on the front side just to fix, because was little long than the other side, and I did trust him. So his start cut my hair in the back, when I look my hair in the mirrow, I was devastated, I could believe he did his his own thing in my head, without askme. And him totally messed up my hair, cut my hair just like a boy. I feel so angry for that, and I could say anything to him. And someone had fix for me, but stil bother me, the hair cut did not frame my face and the back nape he cut so short, scissors over comb, and he cut against the hair grow. The true is, if you can't doing a good job, don't doing your own thing in someone hair, because you going to make your self ridiculous, and he did. But the worst I had to listen from everybody, and that make your self feel horrible. He shoul had used me to make his self proud, and the salon too, but his missed the opportunity. I Suggest don't ever go to him for hair cut, that's no sense in his style, it's a disaster. And he never say sorry, can you believe? Actually the stylist there, is great, it's just him, who doesn't doing good job.
good haircut, unpleasant experience – I got my haircut here about a month ago and I'm still annoyed about my experience. All was going well...the salon is peaceful and calming... until my hairdresser started complaining about my hair. I understand my hair is thick and wavy, but I've never had a hairdresser actually complain while cutting my hair. On top of sighs, he told me that my hair was
"such a challenge" and "could understand why I'd have so many problems with it" (I never said it was that problematic). When asked why this was such a challege for him(shouldn't stylists have experience with many types of hair?) he said that my hair was "wirey." I've never had that before, but even if my hair is "wirey" shouldn't stylists make the experience as pleasant as possible for you? This guy must have thought he was a miracle workers when I've definitely had just as great cuts elsewhere.
THIS JUST IN! – Hi. I have been a client at Salon Ishi for a couple years now. Victor, my hairdresser does an amazing haircut on me! My husband says I look ten years younger! Omar has also done my styling and is just as amazing also. The other day I was walking on the street and saw Heather, crossing onto my side. I love her! she always made my experience fun and exciting whenever I came to the salon. Since she stopped working there, the visit has never been the same. She told me she was working at Pasha Salon, located around the corner on madison between 57th and 58th street, above Giorgio Armani. I can't wait to go see her and I am looking forward to her coloring my hair! Thank god I ran into her!
GREAT SERVICE & GREAT RESULTS – I've been going to Salon Ishi for years specifically for the Japanese Straightening and haircuts. This is the only place to go for the Japanese Straightening. They are pricey but it's worth every penny. I've been getting my hair straightened there for the past four years and for the past four years, I've been getting stopped on the street by strangers complimenting my hair.
In less expensive places the customers walk out with fried-looking, dead-hanging hair. When you walk out of Salon Ishi you look like a model. Even with the straightening I still have volume and my hair can hold a style. It doesn't just hang there. They use a Keratin treatment with the straightening solution for less damage. Keratin is the natural protein found in our hair. They also test some strands of your hair prior to administering the service. Salon Ishi is safe, professional and courteous. Ishi himself walks around to check on each customer.
I know the new thing is this Brazilian straightening but the cost is $200-$600 for a treatment that lasts 8-12 weeks. Plus it has formalgahyde (spelling???) which is dangerous. Forget Brazil- stick with Japan!
Also, if you're looking for great eyebrows see Nora. She's a genius!!!!!!!
The atmosphere is relaxing and the staff are all wonderful; warm, courteous, humorous.
Remember if you're looking to get Japanese Straightening GO ISHI!!!!!! TRUST ME!!!!
Great Staff -- Very very happy with my hair. Would go back. – I had a wonderful experience at Salon Ishi. I've been coloring and cutting my hair in midtown for over 20 years and have paid upwards of $500 dollars. I decided to try Salon Ishi and couldnt' be happier. The entire staff is friendly and professional. Ishi cut my hair -- it looks beautiful and is so easy to style. I just came back from Ali who colored my hair -- and I absolutely love it! I am not the 50 year old blonde anymore -- but a beautiful toned down strawberry red -- it is perfect. Tony, the hairstylist who styled my hair -- well I wish he could be in my home every morning to make me look this good. I would highly recommend Salon Ishi -- and it's staff.

Salon Icky – I used to go to Salon Ishi when I worked in Midtown. My stylist was a male of latin american descent. I have very straight hair and he gave me the best cuts I'd ever received. My hair even looked great wet.
When my job took me to lower manhattan I stopped going to Salon Ishi. Scroll forward a few years. My fiance was in a hospital not far from Salon Ishi. I thought I'd take a "walk-in" appointment and surprise my fiance with a new color and cut.
I didn't really notice the receptionist. The stylist was a very tall, elegant looking young woman. Sadly her comportment did not match her stunningly elegant beauty. She seemed nice enough at first. But when I told her I was getting my hair styled and colored to surprise my boyfriend, she took on a very condescending, mocking attitude.
She called the colorist down and said in a sing-songy snide voice, "She's getting her hair cut and colored for her boyfriend." After about five to ten minutes of their little "mock the simpleton" game. I got up from the chair and said, "Thanks for your time, I'm going back to the hospital to see my fiance."
Their faces dropped when they realized that the reason I was "doing it for my fiance" was because he was in the hospital. So all of a sudden they feel an ounce of shame for being nasty? What a joke. I'll never go back. My old stylist wasn't there anyway. I only wish I hadn't lost contact with him! He was the best thing about Salon Ishi.
Why would anyone pay a lot of money to get treated like that? Maybe Salon Ishi wants only a snobbish, model looking clientele and this is how they keep out those whose money is not good enough for them.
Excellent service, great cuts – I love Suzanne who cuts hair there. She does the most beautiful layers which I always am satisfied with. I?m not sure how everyone else is there. The place is very calming with a feel of a rain forest.
Typical Japanese Salons reception service. – I went there for my hair cut. Stylist was nice & good manner. Style of my hair was ok. I was pretty happy until check out. At reception there was bleached hair asian woman, I was standing right front of her but her eyes were looking outside ( her face is faced on me) . She saw me I was caming to pay. So I said "excuse me" .Her face was like " Yes, What happen?" This type of receptions attitude is obviously typical Japanese salons one , They look down Japanese cutomers, not American or others... . My friend (she is french) recommended me the salon. I liked the stylist but because of the receptionist I won't back there. I hope this high priced & magazine appeared salon to be high class manner for every customer.
