Rudest service ever – I went to Terrace in the Sky yesterday with some friends of mine, for the Restaurant week. We had a table at 10pm. Everybody arrived a little late (some problems finding the place). It was 10.15pm and the main waiter almost yelled at us, saying they close the kitchens at 10pm. OK, we were 20 minutes late, but you don't take reservations at 10pm if you close the kitchens at 10pm! The rest of the dinner, the waiters kept hurrying us, and were not really nice. The food was quite good, true, but the atmosphere unpleasant. We were of course the last in the restaurant, and our waiter had already changed into shorts and flip flops when he brought us our check! Then, as we were in the elevator, he asked us if the food was good, but then said "Next time, be on time!".
So even if the food is good and it has a great view, I don't recommend it at all, as I've never seen such a rude service, insulting the clients.
Less than mediocre – I ate here with my boyfriend and the service, atmosphere, and food are all mediocre at best. The gaudy dining room decor and the boring menu need a serious facelift. Granted, the view is nice -- but that alone won't bring me back.
The service is really stuffy and apparently has a curfew because by 10:15 the place turned into a morgue, despite their being a handful of customers still dining. They turned off the music as we were still eating, pressured us to order dessert as we were still enjoying our $120 worth of wine, started folding tablecloths at other tables, and did just about everything possible to get us to leave. Don't accept 9:00 reservations if you're not going to give me some time to sit back and dine. It was extremely off-putting and I will not go back.
Went here last night for dinner for Rest. Wk. and was pleasantly surprised. After being dropped off by the cab on Morningside ave instead of Morningside drive we finally made it. I have to admit, after stepping out into the elevator I was a little taken aback by the gaudy decor, reminded me very much of Tavern on the Green. So on to the food, they offered:
tomato salad & mozzarella
Chilled cream corn soup
risotto w/ vegetables
Sorry I couldn't remember details on this either but I had the tomato salad & mozzarella (quite tasty) and the risotto (came out piping hot and the portion was huge but it was very good). I also ordered the Tartar of Hawaiian Blue-Fin Toro w/ cucumber, Mango and Ponzu Vinaigrette which was delicious, nice and spicy though I felt like I was eating a spicy tuna roll w/out the rice. My bf got the chilled cream corn soup which was ok to taste but I don?t think I could?ve eaten a whole bowl of it. he also got the angus sirloin which was very good but the corn salsa that it came w/ was way too spicy bc it had too much jalape?os in it. for dessert I ordered the raspberry panacotta and he got the warm chocolate cake, both decent but nothing to rave about. All in all I think it was a good deal for the food though keep in mind that tartar was $24, pretty much the price of an entree. Don?t think I would go back just bc I think the prices are way too high and I didn?t think it was worth it. yea the view was nice but nothing spectacular. Service was a bit old and stuffy as well.
easter dinner – Wow!! Everything was great from service to the dinning experience. I would recommend this restaurant to any one who eats at the top restaurants in NYC. This truly is a special place to take friends, family, and a romantic date as well. The whole experience was a night to remember.
Terrible Service – Where to begin... I took my boyfriend for his first NYC Xmas eve to this recommended restaurant. I asked for a window table when I booked and the hostest took us to a table in the center of the room. When I told her about the request she seemed annoyed and very cold and seated us by a window with no view. On their website there was alot of excitement over their wine list. It wasn't even offered to us. I had to ask for it half way through our appetizer. The waiter came back past our table 3 times eventually bringing it. We were then left alone for the entire meal. We had to pour our own wine, never given more water and never checked on to see if the food was ok. Our empty plates sat in front of us for awhile while we waited for anyone to come over to the table. If this had been a diner I would have expected this but this is suppose to be a fine dining experience. We told our waiter to just bring us the check so we could leave telling him we would not be having desert. 5 minutes later another waiter came over with the desert menu. The lack of communication was ridiculous. The place wasn't even busy. There were at least 4 or 5 empty tables and in a place that size that means they were not busy.
I still can't believe that such a 'fine dining' restaurant had such horrible service, especially on xmas eve. the food was good but honestly we could not enjoy it.
Out of the way but worth it – I braved pouring rain and cold weather for this... but worth it! Had a great fish dish. Very nice ambience too.
the Worse service & meal – I was there for restaurant week. the food was fair but the service was bad.. basically threw the food on the table.. serve us ice cream for desert and the ice cream melt entirely. I would never go back.
Wonderful special occassion dining! – Fiance and I went here for our anniversary. The neighborhood isn't as bad I some folks had mentioned. Walked into a wonderful experience. Good food presented in an elegant manner. Was a little disappointed with the service though. Harp was a great touch. I also thought it was a great value for the food and ambiance. Would recommend for special occassion dining for a group as it's a great New York City experience.
Worst meal I've ever had in Manhattan – The setting is beautiful; the food is to be avoided at all costs. We went here for Restaurant Week and were looking forward to it. The menu of a lettuce salad, and then chicken or salmon, was uninspired to say the least and meager at the most, and the waiter basically threw the dishes at people. Did I mention we both got sick from the food? All night? Very disappointing experience.
