Best Comedy Club – I went to the Comic Strip Last week for a friends Birthday. We went on a Friday Night because somebody reccomened we watch Chuck Nice. He was the last comedian to go up. As soon as he started talking he had me cracking up, I almost forgot to pay the bill.
We had such a good time! I havent laughed that hard in a long time. We were seated in the front, so our table got joked on a couple of times. But thats what made it better...
Drinks are a bit pricey but they were strong-at least.
I definitely would come back again!
Nope – Sitting in my lady's lap is not my idea of a fun night. I respect a hustle and and all, but the joint is waaay too small!
Not a good first impression – We purchased our tickets earlier in the day for the 8:30 show on a Thursday. We understood that in addition to our ticket price, we would be required to purchase at lease $20 in drinks per person. Having read the positive reviews, we decided it would be worth it.
We showed up at 8:00 for our 8:30 show and were told the show had been moved to 9:00. We returned at 8:55 to find a long line outside (in the cold). We went inside to make sure the line was for ticket holders and were told there was a benefit that was ending and we would need to stand outside. After several minutes, there was no indication the benefit party was leaving and it was already 9:00.
We spoke to the same lady both times we walked inside and she was impolite and certainly was not concerned about the inconvenience of moving the show time and then asking ticket holders to wait outside for a show that would begin even later than announced.
We decided it wasn't worth waiting in the cold to spend another $40 in drinks so we left. We probably missed a good show but the lady at the desk in the front needs to be replaced!
NOT FUN!! – Came here with some friends expecting good laughs, however, got a rude awakening by racist jokes. Worse, there is a 2 drink minimum and food doesn't count towards it. Even worse, you are literally sitting on your friends lap because they pack so many people into one show. If you want to feel like cattle, come here. If you want some real funny jokes and a genuinely good time, then go to the UCB.
Loved it and Love David The Voice Stein + Jimmy Hammer – The place was small but it was full of laughs. Loved the comedians especially David The Voice Stein and Jimmy Hammer.
A NIGHT OF TORTURE – Most of the crowd was drunk and out of control with a lot of gangsta-types People were throwing up in the bathroom! The comedians were mostly bad and kept screaming at the crowd to shut up. Everyone was seated elbow to elbow (literally). Does the fire dept know about this place? The prices of the drinks were out of control compared to any comedy club we've been to. $13 for a shot? You've got to be kidding me. All in all, the worst comedy club experience of our lives!
Really fun place! – It's a little cozy, BUT you get a great view of whoever is on stage no matter where you sit! and there's a two drink minimum, but it's a comedy club. What would you expect?
We went a few days ago and saw nine great comics; seriously, there wasn't a weak link in the bunch. Most of the comics were ones we were already familiar with via Last Comic Standing or VH-1's bevy of talking heads shows. We got our tickets and made our reservation--you need both for weekend shows.
Basically, we laughed our asses off. And, really, asses are overrated anyway!
Definitely go on a night with a large line-up, go early if you want a seat close to the stage, and definitely stay the main set ends as occasionally they bring on random newbies for short "test" sets which is cool to see, its always important to support those young aspiring comics after all!!
Horrible costomer service! – I went to th Comic Stip a few weeks ago. The show was pretty good, even though $20 entrance and $20 drink minimum was a little expensive.
I provided my name and email address for them to keep me updated on theirs shows and special promotion.
Here is the horror story: the lady from the club called and asked me to give her my address so she can send me some promotional tickets. She said she can email it to me, but she needs the address. I said that I am moving soon and I don't have a definite address yet. She said "ARE YOU MOVING IN THE NEXT TWO MINUTES?" very sarcastically. The whole tone of her conversation with me was very mean and sarcastic. LIke "GIVE ME YOUR ADRESS!"
Well, I liked the club. I was going to go out there more with my friends. But, guess what, lady. You can send those promotional tickets to somebody else.
I hope the management will read this review and train your staff better.
Wish I could give Zero Stars !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! – The show SUCKED !!!!!!!!!!!!! Many comics seemed like they hadn't ever been on stage before! Especially annoying because when I made our reservation, I asked who was on the show and they told me the comics all had tv credits. The waitress had major attitude and seemed like she didn't want to be there. The outrageously high prices make you feel like they have their hand in your wallet to get ALL of your money because they know you are never coming back any way.
WHAT HAPPENED TO THIS CLUB? – Since we discovered Comic Strip Live a couple of years ago through some friends, we used to go all the time and always saw incredible shows with a level of comedians second to none. I write "used to" becasue after the last couiple of visits, we have seen such a huge decline in the quality of the shows that we decided to try some other clubs that we've been hearing good things about. I don't know what happened, maybe the person who picks the comedians left to go to another club or maybe the club is under new owndership but there's definitely a noticable difference. Even the friends who recommended the club to us agreed and they don't go there any more either. There's a slim chance we might wait another year and try Comic Strip Live again but probably not.
