Wow one whole year later and I had the same Decar experience as Sweetniz. I cannot believe that he still works there. One of my coworkers has a horror story about Turning Heads Salon, and again, involving Decar. I wish I had read this review before I went there. I cut my hair prior to going to Turning Heads. I just wanted someone to polish my cut since I obviously cannot see the back of my head. I called for walk-in appointment. The receptionist that was working that day told me that she would set me up with a stylist that was really good and knew how to work with natural hair, since I explained to her my whole situation. So, she gave me Decar. Decar started from the back of my head where I could not see and cut my hair down to... I can't even explain. I looked like a two dollar crack head when I left that salon. I had to buy a scarf from a store around the corner; my hair was so horrendous. I was given the whole blow out suggestion too. I had to tell Decar to stop and to not touch my head. I was so distraught when I left. I called the owner Sandy Scarborough, explaining to here what happened. I sent her pictures and everything. Oh, I forgot to mention that when I got home I used a mirror to look at the back of my head; THERE WAS A BALD SPOT. She said she would refund me my money. This was in May, its now October. I made to two visits to the salon; the first time she wasn't there. The second time, she was there, had me waiting downstairs for her for who knows how long, then decided not to come down and meet with me for my refund after agreeing to give me on. The receptionist was friendly when I came in, but when I told her that I was there to pick up a refund her whole attitude changed, in which now she's looking at me like she has a problem with me. I even tried to make small talk by asking about the products that were displayed and she didn't want to entertain any conversation with me after that point. Let me remind you this was our first time meeting. Not at one point was I rude, disrespectful, raise my voice, or even impolite. I was told that the money would be transferred back into my account and if not by Monday to call back. No transfer, I called back, its now Saturday and my message has not been returned. I'm really trying to remain nice and refrain a typical reaction in my situation. In my personal opinion a lawsuit should be filed against this establishment and if I do not get my money back I will be taking them to court. I don't need to cause a scene in order for justice to be served. Kill it with kindness, take the necessary steps, and move on with life. I would never recommend a soul going there. And, the fact that Sandy still has Decar working for her after so many years of complaints and mishaps says a whole lot about her character as a person and a business woman. My tip: STAY AWAY FROM TURNING HEADS SALON & DAY SPA.

Wouldn't trust my locks to anyone else – It took a lot for me to decide to give-up the versatility of my natural hair (or so I thought) and commit to the maintainence of locking my hair. I didn't want to spend an inordinate amount of time and/or money on my hair care.

But, I love my locks, and almost daily someone compliments me on my color and care. I can't take the credit - it's all Sandy!

Sometimes I think I'll shave it off and start anew, but then I catch a glimspe of myself in the mirror or someone takes the time to comment, and I know I'll keep these locks a little longer.

No To Turning Heads Salon ... – So I've been growing my hair out for about 16 mo & wanted to get my relaxer cut out. Nothing fancy or complicated. I just didn't want my hair crazy uneven so I decided I'd go to a natural hair salon thinking this type of request wouldn't be foreign to them & the job would get done better than I could do as I have no experience with cutting hair. I was not about to be my own test dummy :) I was sooo wrong.

I made an appointment with Dakar and told him what I wanted. I was clear that I didn't want any type of style, just the relaxer cut. He was intent on doing what he wanted instead of what I, the client, desired for MY hair & insisted that, in order to cut it, my hair would need to be blow-dried. I should've left right there, but instead I said "he's the professional ...". . Washing my hair went fine until he started tearing my hair apart. I could actually hear it tearing. The girl that later came to detangle it had NO CLUE how to do it. I felt like I needed to snatch the comb from her and show her how to properly detangle hair in the state mine was in. I sat under the dryer and then proceeded over to Dakar's station & he blew my hair out and got to cutting.

In the end, I had a choppy, uneven, styled cut, there was still alot of relaxer left (because he'd decided to cut it into a style instead of what I'd asked for), and I was charged extra for the unnecessary blow-dry. I had to go home, finish the job myself, & then treat my hair to some pampering after that tug fest. I should've saved my money & done it myself.

Turning Heads may be the go-to salon for locs, but they have no clue when it comes to loose hair. Go somewhere else.

Unfortunately we realize that everyone cannot be pleased. We work with natural hair in every type of condition and every type of texture. When combing hair out of course there is going to be a little pulling which may be a uncomfortable but needed to get the job done. We tried our best to service you & do appreciate your comments.

Love My Locks – I received a wash, re-twist and style last month from Oumuo and my hair still looks great. I love the service and the atmosphere at Turning Heads and have been going there for 2 years now. I think that it's great that women with natural hair have a high end salon to go to for coloring, twisting and styling that caters to us and makes us feel good about our natural choice. Yes, they do relaxed hair as well but you honestly feel that all are welcome amd that all hair can be beautiful..

Very Nice, Really Cute! – This little salon &spa right uptown is just what I think the owner aims to be. A cute little place uptown that provides great services to the community and beyond. True there are no waterfalls, and fireworks but there are are people who are nice, and do a good job. I had a hair consultation and a Spa mani & pedi. I still don't know what i will do with my hair but at least now I have options. My fingers and toes look and smell great. I had a nice time and will return.

Gotta Love It! – Turning heads is one of my favorite places uptown. The staff is great and it definitely has a great uptown flavor. I've been getting my hair done here for years and just started getting manicures too. I love the music in the salon and the spa. The part is that you don't have to wait all day. Everyone is pretty much always on point and are always helpful.

Great Gift! – I gave my mom a gift card for Turning Heads for the favorites package. My issue, as is every year, is what to get someone who seems to have it all and what she told me is she wanted a day for herself. So that's what my family and I got her. She was pampered and treated very well, and when checking out told the receptionist "she didn't want to leave". That's good enough for me. I have a halo over my head for the birthday with the best gift and Turning Heads have my many thanks.

Uptown's Best Kept Secret – i absolutely love having a Spa within walking distance of my apartment. Being new to the area I was pleased to find Turning Heads and learn of all the great services they provide. I get my waxing done every 2 to 3 weeks as well as my manicure & pedicure. I usually go on Tuesdays or Wednesdays to take advantage of the Off-Peak discount prices. The spa is newly remodeled, clean and spacious. A polite and professional staff rounds out a pretty nice place to be.

Nice Place, Good People – This has been my salon to get my locs done for the past 5 years and I like it a lot. MY stylist Katrina is very sweet and does a great job on my hair. I am not a big "hair" person, but Katrina always hooks me up just right. They have done a nice job repainting the Spa and I can't wait until the Salon is done as well. It's a nice place with a lot of good people. I would definitely give it a try.
