Way too expensive to eat "so-so" food – My friend and I stopped here after a matinee show. There were very few choices- I was really disappointed in the selection. The options sounded pretty good overall- crab cakes, steak, chicken, salmon, a few salads...but nothing jumped out at me. Nothing really seemed like a complete meal. In each description I read it seemed something was missing. I finally decided on the chicken special and was told they were out. I ordered the sirloin with horseradish mashed potatoes, asparagus, and burgundy reduction. I was so angry that I paid $37 for that meal! The steak was cooked as I ordered it but it just wasn't great. I've had better steak at Chili's or other chain restaurants. The potatoes were good but not great. The sauce was "eh". The 3 pieces of asparaus I did have were good. No salad or soup came with this dinner. To add a salad would've been $14. The wine was $8 a glass and just okay. The wait staff was not very attentive or friendly. I was really disappointed.

Come for the experience – For what it is, I am a fan. Come to Sardi's for the ambiance and all the caricatures of the stars and celebrities on the walls. Don't come to Sardi's expecting a bleeding-edge amazing culinary experience. Come to enjoy the history of the place and soak up the fact that so many Broadway stars have graced these hallowed rooms.

That said, here's the round-up: we started with the endive, grape and blue cheese salad. I liked the fact that some of the endive was left in whole leaf form and the rest was cut into smaller bites. Also, the serious hunk of blue cheese on top hearkened back to the old steakhouses of yore where the standard menu was iceberg with blue cheese, croutons, possibly a tomato and a big-ole slab of steak. They do not scrimp on the blue cheese and for that, I was grateful.

We then scarfed up a plate of oysters (quite good) and moved to the salmon with butternut squash risotto. Again with the mix of textures, some of the squash was pureed into the risotto and some was left in small neat chunks; I liked the preparation and it tasted very rich and decadent. The salmon was nicely crisped and tasted great.

The only trouble with Sardi's is that aside from it's iconic status, there are just so many great restaurants in the city that it's tough to make this a destination unless you're coming expressly for the experience.

Sardi's is World Class – Great location if you're attending a show on Broadway -- this place is in the heart of the Theatre District.

Sardi's is a legend. It has been serving the theatre crowd since 1921. Walls are lined with caricatures of actors and actresses. Top Notch wait staff at your beck and call.

And the FOOD? Ah the Food! Exquisite! We had a most wonderful dinner -- Steak tartare and salmon to die for. And a corner booth. What more can one ask for.

Be sure to walk or take the subway -- crowded area near Times Square.

Al Hirschfeld comes to Times Square! – All you need to know is Al Hirschfeld has countless of his caricatures all over the walls which makes is feel really special inside. It is the perfect blend between romantic restaurant and art gallery. if you are downtown whether sight-seeing or catching a show, it is a must see!

A Classic!!! – There is no better place for pre-theater dinner! I always take friends/relatives from out of town and Friday was no exception. Steak tartar prepared tableside to order, fabulous pasta and chops, delicious desserts - try the Tahitian vanilla creme brulee! Service is friendly and flexible to your needs. To those who complain of the price - its New York, get over it! You can easily dine for $50 per person on the fixed menu offerings - not unreasonable in the Theater District.

One of a kind! – This is truly a New York landmark. I was in the city from out of town and went to see a show. We had dinner at Sardi's afterwards - as other reviews have said, it's "the thing to do." Despite what some other reviewers have said, I didn't find the prices unreasonable at all. The food is outstanding (I had an amazing Caesar's salad and possibly the best chocolate cake I've ever eaten) and the service is first-class. And on top of that, you get the unique character and history of the restaurant...

Best Show on Broadway – Where to go for a drink after a Broadway show on a Saturday night? Why Sardi's of course. I was surprised to walk into the little downstairs bar to find only seven people in the historic drinking spot -- five at the bar, a couple tucked into one of the shelf tables. Though I was expecting a crush of theater-goers ,I quickly realized that there is comfort in small numbers -- especially when Bartender Jose is on duty. The visit soon became an intimate cocktail party with all guests offering tales of their Broadway experiences. We heard that Liza and Sarah Jessica are grand gals . . .that Jose calls Stephen Sondhiem "Steve" . . . that Mary (one of the guests at the bar) had a wealth of stories about Broadway celebs . Two gentlemen from Pennsylvania offered show reviews with detailed descriptions of the worst and the best . A little more about Mary -- it seems that she is a frequent visitor at the bar and enjoys sharing stories about her friends, from Lansbury to Pitt. So next time you are in Times Square on a Saturday night, stop by Sardi's for a drink and the "show." And please, give my regards to Jose and Mary.

Complements to Sardis Bartender Dieago!!! – My husband and I were visiting NYC for the Holidays and we thought it would be fun to stop by Sardis for a drink. We knew it was known as being touristy, and we ushered to the bar upstairs. It was fairly crowded but we were able to find two seats at the bar. The bartender Dieago took excellent care of us, charming, and even took a small order from us, that he himself picked up and delivered. The appetizers were good. When we come back to the city in Spring to see Chorus Line we will surely come back and have dinner and another drink with our new friend.
