Terrible bar, do not go there! – Received 2 tickets "worth $100" (according to the ticket) of free or discounted drinks for purchasing comedy tickets. When we went to cash the tickets in at the bar, the bartender confiscated one of the tickets, saying "You should only get one per person." Of course, when purchasing the comedy tickets, I factored in the 2 free drink tickets into my decision, so having one of my drink ticket sets confiscated after the fact made me feel like I was scammed. When using the remaining ticket, I was informed that "Using the ticket would not allow us to participate in the happy hour, so choose wisely". We used the ticket and then were informed that we could use only 1 ticket per visit, and were no longer allowed to participate in the happy hour! Needless to say, we left very unhappy and felt that the entire Mr. Biggs/comedy tickets promotion was a scam to fleece gullible people out of their money.
On another occasion, we returned to Mr. Biggs to use a second drink from the ticket set. I tore off the drink special and gave it to a friend, who ordered the "2 free drinks" special at the bar. The bartender looked at the ticket, said OK, and made her the first of 2 drinks. She drank it, and AFTER SHE FINISHED, the manager came over, told her the ticket was invalid because it had been torn and not cut with their special scissors, and TRIED TO FORCE HER TO PAY FOR BOTH DRINKS. She ended up paying for the 1st drink. So to recap, they told her the ticket allowed her to get free drinks, waited until she finished a drink, and then strong-armed her into paying for it! That is straight up theft.
The waiters are horrible and don't know the drink menu, the mixed drinks are watered down, and the staff has been nothing but rude to us. Do not go there, there are plenty of much better bars in the city.
$6.25 for bud light drafts. Stay Away! – went here on Tue night 4/26/11 with a buddy to grab burgers and a few beers. nothing going on inside, place was basically empty, and we ended up sitting outside. we split plate of wings, each had a burger, and 7 bud light drafts between the 2 of us. food was decent, service OK, nothing special. final bill? $80!!! this joke of a place charged us $6.25 for EACH bud draft. i asked the waiter if this was a typo - he confirmed it was right. now i know why this place is always empty. Landsdowne across the street has better menu, better food, better and more TV's, more beer options, and everyday 2-3 different $4 beer specials. Pony Bar up the street has much better food, better scene, and a great selection of 30-40 american craft beers on draft at $5 each. how can MR Biggs justify $6.25 for a bud draft? i guess their philosophy is to screw over and squeeze each customer for as much money as possible, instead of charging fair prices and getting return business. i will never go back there - way too many good bars on 9th and 10th to ever bring my business to this crap hole ever again. congrats mr biggs, I hope the extra $15-20 bucks you skimmed off of me last night is worth losing out on $100's of dollars of repeat business from my friends and I, let alone the business of anyone else who now has 2nd thoughts about going to your bar after reading this review and goes somewhere else instead.
GREAT FOOD, GREAT PEOPLE, GREAT TIME AND GREAT VALUE – I travel more then I like and when I m away from home I like to eat at places where I feel like I'm at home. This is the place in NYC for me. I had a great conversation with some of the most interesting people I have meet in a while, IT admins, steel workers and a few actors ( the buildings that cast their massive shadows on this corner location at 44th Street and 10th Avenue are inhabited by the largest collection of actors, musicians and artist I have ever seen. Ver cool indeed!)
The severs are young and very attractive girls - and friendly to boot ! That is a rare combination in any place. The service was good enough and they anticipated almost all my needs during my visit. Before my beer was empty they had another one waiting to go. This was a dream come true for sure.
I ordered 10 buffalo style hot wings to start, and these may be the best I have ever had anywhere .. ever!! Let me preface this by saying that I do a fair amount of bar hopping and drinking where wings are a staple in most bars .. so I have some experience with this dish. I had also ordered a burger, med-rare with well done fries. One of the very friendly severs brought me a huge plater with my burger cooked perfectly and the fries were well done. There were more then I could have eaten and it came with a very nice fancy green salad on the plate. I found out that all the sandwiches have this over sized portion of fries and green salad.
I paid $7.95 for the wings and $9.95 for the burger, Ia great deal I though. I had no idea that I was there during "happy hour" and all beers were 1/2 price! This was the best deal I have found in months maybe years
Now , let me tell you about the place; It has and outdoor seating area with oversized planters and the outer tables are smoker friendly!! A rare find anywhere these days in any part of the country. Inside there is a huge long bar that can seat about 25 people and it is serviced by two bartenders. There are over a dozen large flat screens scattered around the room displaying a myriad of different sporting events. I was told that it is standing room only on Sundays as they have the full NFL ticket and it is the place to go if football runs your life during the season.
But please don't think that this is just a "Guys" place, I saw many families with infants and young children their as well. And tables of what looked like single women getting drinks after work. It was obvious that this was a place for everyone, and all are welcome.
I had a brief conversation with the owner, and he too is a larger then life personality as well as a very large man. I see where the name of this establishment may have come from. He had a incredible motorcycle as did his wife and there seemed to be a number of other enthuthiast there visiting with there fantastic bikes as well. bikes.
Great people, great food, great time and great value!
I recommend to anyone visiting NYC on the west side in the 40's make time for this small gem. And for those that live in the area, make you way there and see it for your self.
should be better – ok, this should be a relaxed neighborhood spot. Can't complain about the food, which is adequate and in some cases even tasty. However, my friend ordered a wrap, which was under the sandwich section. THis section specifically says that all items come with a salad and fries. When no salad came, she asked and was told that that item did not come with a salad. When I pointed out that the menu did not specify that the wrap came with out salad, the manager came over with an attitude and said that a wrap is not a sandwich. What a tedious and ridiculous excuse. His rudeness caught us off guard and I definitely had words to say. It's a 92 cent salad! needless to say, we did get the salad, but I just felt the whole things was so petty when four of us were ordering dinners and drinks.
Stick to ANY of the places in area around 10th
nasty – the workers are lazy as well as the food over priced and rundown . I saw things as i was walking out of the place i would never never go there again !
Great food...good for locals and tourists – We live in the neighborhood and go to Mr. Biggs regularly. Especially love the burgers, wings and salads. There are lots of outdoor tables to enjoy when the weather is nice too. Also, we like going there just for drinks or to watch sports. It's got a neighborhood feel but welcoming to out of towners.
WOW – Love this place.Happy hour after work had half off drinks and Apps. The bartender Mary is the best. I had some wings and a ceasar salad. Both were great.I wil be returning this weekend to check out the night atmosphere. It was suggested by other patrons there!
A bit below par – I'm not a big fan of bars and their food, but I'm a mark for anyplace that offers brunch on the weekend and doesn't make loners sit at the counter. So I tried Mr. Bigg. I will say that the waiter/host made a noticeable effort to provide good service. I will also say that the "cubed" potatoes were outstanding.
However, the coffee is horrendous. It was generic coffee, maybe Vassilaro's or a like commercial bag, but the taste of stale coffee oil overwhelms every other note in the brew. Clean the p o t at least once a year, whether it needs it or not.
I had the eggs benedict, which were actually quite good. However, given that there was exactly one other customer in the restaurant, it should not have taken 35 minutes for this dish to come out of the kitchen.
The good, for brunch, consists of attentive wait staff and excellent potatoes. The bad is the glacially slow kitchen and the miserable coffee. I don't anticipate returning.
Bad service and food. – I went there on Monday after work for Happy Hour. My friend and I sat at the bar, we asked the chubby white bartender for happy hour menu, he told us all the drinks were half price. So I odered frozen margarita, buffalo wings and nochos, the margarita was Okay, wings were too dried, and the nochos were stale. My friends and I put our own credit cards on tap for our own orders. In the end the chubby bartender put all of our orders on my credit card and refused to divided it becase it was too much work for him to do. And he also charged me margarita with full price because the drink was not on the happy hour menu. It was a bad experience for me. I asked for happy hour drink before I placed the order, and my friend and I put our own credit cards on tap when we ordered. The food and drinks were really Okay, and the white chubby bartender was definitely disappointing.
Best Bar In The World – Charming wonderful atmosphere..... Great staff (Niki and Heather both are HOT) I always have loved the food and the prices..... The best neighborhood bar around in Hells Kitchen! They make the best drinks and the best food for the price. I must say what always makes me come back to this magnificent place is the staff. They are caring and attentive!!!!!!! The Regulars are always a great and entertaining crowd.
