Worst .. First they have u waiting to assist you . Then they don't know how to fill out the paper properly when it's for a nursing home. And the makeup on my father they gave him a jokers smile . They could of done his nails since his hands were on displaced . I would not recommend them if you care much for your deceased. I complain to them and they were whatever!
Ortiz Funeral home on southern blvd is the worst funeral home ever. The staff is so incompetent so rude and so misleading and when you confront them with your issue their sarcasm comes out which irritates the situation even more. They are money hungry and impossible to deal with. I will never recommend anyone to go to that place EVER.. I will be contacting BBB and DOH as you literally are scared to fall thru the holes that are on the floor when walking to view your loved one. They are not repaired just covered with a rug made in 1921.
ORTIZ HAS BEEN FINED BY THE FUNERAL BOARD – A funeral home with this many reviews is obviously a red flag. Most do not recommend Ortiz which says much about this funeral home and its staff. Families feeling that they were dealt with unprofessionally should report the matter to the New York Funeral Board. These comments are reason to stay away and use a funeral home that has not been before the Board as Ortiz has. Ortiz has also been reported in the media and reported on. The reviews are a clear signal to stay away. There are many good caring funeral directors out there. Unfortunately this is not one of them.
UNACCEPTABLE, UNPROFESSIONAL SERVICE. We made arrangements to have a Memorial Service for my brother at this funeral home. We went to sign a contract and picked a chapel that we wanted to have the service in. When the day of the Memorial Service was scheduled and we arrived, someone else's coffin was in the chapel that we chose. When we inquired of the mix up, we were told we had the chapel next door. As we went to review the contract we noticed that someone had clearly used Wite-Out to cover up the letter C (the chapel we chose) and put a D next to it. Unacceptable. The employee Johnny was very dismissive and aloof. We had to had the service as our guest were arriving. We even had to bring more chairs in from the Chapel next door as there was an insufficient amount and the room was not wide enough as the one we requested. After the service we went to express our disappointment and was told my Johnny "Well you had the memorial service, didn't you?". How dismissive and rude. The point was we picked a room that we wanted and was prepared to pay for that that what we expected. If there was a change, give us a call, not deceptively Wite-Out the contract as if nothing was ever in writing or confirmed. To make matters worse, there was never even an apology or acknowledgement of the "error". At a time of grief, no family should have deal with this type of unprofessional, un-compassionate
Ortiz Funeral Home Westchester – My brother wanted my mother to be laid at the Ortiz Funeral home on the Grand Concourse in the Bronx, but with no parking I could not agree. One of the staff members at the hospice my mother was at recommended the Ortiz Funeral home on Westchester Ave in the Bronx.
I am so glad we went there. Michelle was great. We went there knowing nothing and she guided us step by step with everything. The price was great, the service and support was great.
There were a couple of problems, but nothing major. I would recommend this Funeral Home to anyone who is strapped for money and want decent, compassionate people to help.
BE AWARE each location is run Privately – My family viewed my great grandmother at
2121 Westchester Ave in the Bronx and my uncle at the location on Broadway in Manhattan - both provided excellent service...staff was sympathetic and professional. BUT I have also attended funerals at the location on Soundview and the other off of the Grand Concourse which I cannot say the same about... both were dark, dingy and dirty staff was unprofessional to say the least. And the bathrooms at the Soundview location reeked of urine.
RUDE<UNPROFESIONAL – Hello to you! Listen I am a Priset and have officiated many, many funerals in my ministry. I called Ortiz Funeral on 189th and Broadway area. A parishoner had passed in the Columbia Presbyterian Hosp in 168th Street. The deceased children and grand children made arrangements days and days before this mother's passing! When I called Ortiz 24 hours after they supposedly had the remains, the women who answered my call was most rude, and barely could speak two words of English. I speak fluent Spanish, and asked her about viewing and other dtails. She put me on hold so long...that I re-dialed the funeral home. This creature once agin answered and screamed that I hung the phone up, and that she had no informatiion about this deceased mother. I asked her, how can that be when the arrangements were made with your funeral home, and the body was already removed from the hospital. She returned to screaming and said in the most broken English, "that they have no record of this person!" Folks..stay clear of this business...they are rude to grieving family members, clergy and totally disorganized, uncaring and unconcerned.
HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! – I have to say I read all the negative reviews and was not thrilled but since I didnt make the arrangements there wasnt much I could do. Everything negative about this place is 100% true. This place was a nightmare and anyone who thinks its NOT, obviously are low class people with no standards. The place was a zoo and it smelled like one as well they had kids and an actual dog in the funeral home running around and the employees never said anything. The bathroom was discusting and the toilet didnt work right. Everything that could go wrong did at this place and the owners sister couldnt care less and never apologized about anything. Our flowers were removed by an employee that DIDNT even speak ENGLISH! When we questioned them they claimed flowers were missing so they took ours because they thought we had them accidentally. The flowers clearly had our families name on them. The casket should have been closed well it WASNT, they were to provide an easel that didnt happen. They said that they only had ONE easel and that they would try to get us one, they NEVER came back with one. Really one easel OMG. THIS PLACE IS HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU HAVE TO BE CRAZY OR LOW CLASS TO MAKE ARRANGEMENTS HERE.....
Things went well – I'm writing this review, because after I read all these other reviews knowing I was attending a funeral for my sister I was dreading the event. All in all everything went well. I can honestly say there were not any problems.
My nieces arrived late the day we were to buried my sister and the personnel waited patiently for them to arrive, even though they had to ready the room for another viewing.
All too often people only post negative reviews, but I felt it was important to say everything went smoothly for my family. Thank you!
No conpassion or consideration for the departed!!!!! – It is truly a business. They could not care any less for your loss. My aunt passed away, and since she lived close to the Ortiz Funeral home on Southern Blvd, I figured it would easier for the family to pay there last respects to her there. I was informed upfront, They only take cash, certified check or money order. No credit card. The cost had to be paid prior to any viewing. This was all done as they requested. We asked for a closed casket, my Aunts wishes, when her young daughters arrived, for the viewing, the casket was open. OUTRAGED!!!!! My sister, who was there not even an hour prior to the begining of the viewing informed them repeatedly, that it was a closed casket viewing, they still left the casket open. The arraigments witht the cemetary, had not been finalized, because no one in the Ortiz office informed the secretary to call the cemetary to inquire. But they made sure to collect the money upfront. The sympathy cards, I had to go and inquire for them because they never put them out. The death certificates, had to be requested multiple times, after paying for them, but became available two days later. Im scared to even consider that fact that my Aunt wanted to be cremated and what I'm getting back as her ashes. Do yourselves a favor and your loved ones, turn and walk away from the Ortiz Funeral Home. Don't put your loved ones in there hands for there final resting needs.
