People BEWARE! This place is a classic “bait & hook” type of business! In the front of their salon they have a huge advertising sign (about 5 feet tall) that reads: “$9 Haircuts” and underneath in tiny print it says, “For Men & boys - $15 For Women & Girls. First Visit Only. Valid ID Required.” The lettering is in bold yellow and the tiny print is in hard-to-read black. In fact, I didn't see the tiny print until I went outside to inspect their sign.

No other customer was in there when I went inside. The employee, who later said her name, was “Theresa” (her business card said Theresa Tran) was putting make-up on her face. She asked me to wait while she finished. She then told me to sit down and asked me what I wanted.

I told her and she began to cut my hair. The office phone rang and she took the call. Her side of the conversation was “$9 – for the first visit.” Then after a short pause she said, “then it’s $18.” She hung up the phone and returned to cut my hair.

I asked her, where did it say what the cost of a haircut was for people after the first visit? From the reflection in the mirror I could see her eyebrow raise as she smiled and said, “For that – you have to ask me.”

I told her this was a “bait & switch” tactic and I was not happy with not knowing what the cost of my haircut would be BEFORE she started cutting my hair.

She changed the conversation by asking me, if I had been to their salon before?

I pointed out that people could lie to them and added that they would not be happy customers taking advantage of them. I asked her why they felt it was okay to deceive customers?

I asked her how would she know if a customer lied to them? She said they’re supposed to check the customers’ ID’s, but they really don’t do it.

I asked her why didn’t they let the customer know what the cost of the haircut would be BEFORE she started cutting hair, to give a customer the opportunity to not to do business with them?

She smiled then said, “Its not my fault, the owner wants us to do this. I’ve told him, but he won’t listen.”

I told her I would not lie, and that this was my second time there, but that I would not be coming back and that I would make sure others knew they were scamming customers.

I asked her why they thought they could get away with this business tactic? I asked her what agency regulated their industry?

She said she didn’t know. When I pointed out that she had to be certified to cut hair in California, she stayed quiet and refused to answer.

I told her I was going to document this on the social media. She became visibly upset, repeating that it was the owner’s doing and that she had no-say in their policy. Her voice because high-pitched and seemed angry/rude.

She had modified the haircut because she didn't do it right the first time. I asked, if they are asking for more money from the customer the second time around, shouldn't they know how to do the haircut right after the first time? She stayed quiet and acted, as though I hadn't asked her a question. She ushered me to the counter and I felt as though I was getting the proverbial 'Bum's Rush."

As I handed her a $20 bill, I asked her for the owner’s name. She gave me his first name (Kevin), but refused to give me his last name. I asked her, if she was okay with the way they were treating customers? She handed me a receipt {#130426-1459 (1)} without giving me my change. When I told her I had two dollars in change coming to me, she angrily removed two, one-dollar bills from the cash drawer and in a rude fashion, put the money in my palm.

I would not ever come to this place again, and I would hope whichever agency regulates them would investigate them for policy (if not criminal) violations!
