not too shabby – just arthur's. if you order pasta, it will be delicious. i tried a few dishes myself, which were great. the desserts are delicious as well. i highly recommend the snicker pie! the snicker pie is to die for!
Best local fine dining on Ditmars at a great price – This quiet place at the corner of Steinway and Ditmars is like visiting your old friends family. The place is quiet, clean and has not changed in quite a few years, and it does not need to.
Peggy, our server, is a smart cookie, and damned funny. After three visits, she knew us by name and even remembered what we were going to order. Service is not slow, but relaxed, and makes the hours more enjoyable. Make a night of it.
Order a carafe of the house white wine and settle in to comfy chairs in a dark well decorated room. Visit the upstairs rest room and, well, it's like visiting your old aunts house, you wonder about the stories and the past guests.
The menu may look faded, but the food is not. Surprises wait at every turn, and you know each dish is made just for you.
The food is neighborhood classic Italian, with many surprises tossed in. The tomato salad with mozzerella and pesto is divine. Try the escargot and snapper (warning the waiter specials are pricey).
Dinner for four is less than $125.00 (with 2 carafes of wine)
This is as old Astoria as you can get. Older diners are always seen here, cause they know a great value and great food, and know how to honor a local tradition.
For a mothers birthday, a first date, or a quirky look to the past world of Astoria with friends, this is the place to go.
Eurotrash alert. Many come here to dine and think it is OK to blab on their cell phones. Peggy puts a stop to that.
Old Style Little Italy in Astoria – Old Style Little Italy is kicking and screaming at this hidden Astoria hideaway, tucked away from the busy section of Ditmars Boulevard. My girlfriend and I were genuinely greeted by two of the wait staff as soon as we walked through the door to find the very homely, quiet and slightly dim lit bar area that usually suggests you might spend half of your tax refund earlier than expected to. After taking a look at the menu, we were sold by not only the price but also the large variety of traditional style choices.
They don't sell wine by the glass but it doesn't matter because you can get several of many offered bottles for under $30. The Sangeovese was one of them and it was excellent. Our server, Peggy, was wonderful. Highly Attentive, Knowledgeable and had a great sense of humor. A bread basket with not one but three choices quickly made it's way to our table followed already by a refill on ice cold water from the friendly staff that would come the entire meal. We shared a very tasty generous portion of Mozzarella en Corozza for an appetizer and soon followed it up with two special of the day entrees of Asparagus filled Raviolis topped with what might have been an enhancing tomato cream sauce. I am eating the second have of my dish right now as I type because of how hearty the dish was. Romantic setting, superb service, equally great food, and no room for any dessert of which there was three tier tray we saw from a far to choose from. $66 dollars later we left the downstairs dinning room wondering if the great light music we had heard was young Frank Sinatra or Michael Buble. On the way out we thanked the staff for everything and felt as though we had just left a family's home from dinner. This is our new favorite Italian Restaurant in New York City and we're already planning our next visit. I still have three Raviolis left to eat and two hours later they're just starting to reach room temperature.
best food best service best atmosphere – i enjoyed my experience at this restaurant more then anything i ever have before or should i say in a long time it was relaxing food was very good service was great i had a very good time thank you for a great night and will see you very soon thanks
