Drop the attitude and the price – Despite the fact that there is a bodega across the street with really pretty flowers on the cheap, the service in Blooms can be really condescending. Sure they have pretty flowers, but so does the bodega. You just have to arrange them yourself...which is actually kind of fun. My flowers from the bodega lasted considerably longer than the same flowers I purchased from Blooms. That said, if they drop the attitude and the price I'd give Blooms another shot. I really try to support local specialty shops, but that's difficult when you feel your patronage is unappreciated.
You're better off getting a vase from the discount store and stopping by the korean fruit market. – How sad, my significant other was completely ripped off because well, he doesn't know better when it comes to flowers. He wanted to send me a "make your day brighter" surprise at work, and so he had called Blooms on Fifth to order me what he thought would be spectacular flowers, like the man on the phone described. He said the vase was VERY UNIQUE (its a short glass cube, that is not worth more than 10 dollars, if that.) and that for an extra 30 dollars it would be upgraded to premium flowers. Well I'll tell you I received the flowers at work about 3 days ago, and they are already all wilted, rotted, and I'm thinking of using the vase as a pen holder. When i received the delivery, I was pleasantly surprised, I mean its the thought that counts, and I was more than happy to get those flowers. BUT now that I have seen how much he has paid for them, I am extremely upset and feel that he was jipped. Even he was shocked later that night when he picked me up to see that they were so small, with lots of green filler, and very few actual beautiful flowers, and he thought the vase would be substantial and bigger. It was supposed to be a sweetheart bouquet, instead it is something you'd take to the nursing home for your grandma. My advice, just make your own arrangement or call 1-800FLOWERS, where at least you will get what you PAY FOR, and they will explain exactly what the arrangement looks like. THIS PLACE IS a RIP OFF.
Stay away! Horrible shop girl made me cry while buying funeral flowers! – I hate giving places bad reviews, especially local places - but I just have to in this case because I feel that I was treated so badly. I went in to buy a 'death in the family' sympathy bouquet. The man making the bouquet was helpful at first and it did look pretty. (Although, he he did keep wanting me to make it "colorful and cheerful" when I thought something white and tasteful was more appropriate, but he did let me make my own choices in the end). BUT the girl working in the front was so unbelievably rude and surly and went on chatting with what sounded like a personal call while I needed to ask her an important question before the bouquet went out. I made hand gestures to try and politely get her attention, which she ignored. When I very tentatively and politely --- yes --- interrupted her with an "I'm so sorry, excuse me? Can I just ask ---?" Instead of pausing her conversation or even replying with a courteous "hold on one moment please" to me, she just barked "I'm on the phone!" She tried to make it out that I was the one being rude. I apologized and said that, I knew she was busy but just needed to make sure everything was set with my own order, etc. But instead of a professional "of course" or "don't worry" she was even more rude. Then, grieving as I am, tears splashed down my face and I said "You know, you might want to be a little bit more sensitive with people who come in here buying sympathy bouquets" but even then she didn't apologize, she just ignored me and my tears and said "well, maybe you're taking it out on me." When I said something to the man putting the flowers together, he took her side saying I shouldn't have interrupted her while on the phone. But the order was going out the door - I HAD to before it was gone. What an awful experience. Who knew that buying flowers could be so traumatic? There selection is limited at best, anyway. You're better off at a deli, and especially if you are buying flowers for a sad occasion - STAY AWAY.
Beauty Ain't Cheap – Beautiful selection of unique flowers though when I was helped by a salesperson he gave me only what I asked for, making no suggestions or using what I assumed would be his expertise to make a great bouquet. As I'm not a flortist I just said "um, a few of those? I guess a few of those?" and he simply put them together. By the time he rang up "$20" I wasn't so sure that I'd gotten something better than the $8 bouquets available at the deli across the street though if he'd helped me or if I was more of an expert I bet I could have done better for the money.
