best rent a car ever – i got a new camry for 199 for the full weekend and that jewish guy mark was great help and i will go back for a had it with zip car rates they charge to much speedy is the man
Fraudulent business practices – On April 16th I was ran into by a driver renting from Speedy Rent A Car. The driver admitted fault and we called Speedy together and Speedy gave me the number to their Claims office. No one answers the phone at the claims office and typically the answering machine is full (not that it matters b/c they never call you back).
I took Speedy Rent A Car to small claims court and was awarded the full $3,800 for repairs of my car on June 17th and they have yet to pay. I can't believe a business can operate like this. I have filed a complaint to the Attorney General which doesn't seem to do anything either. I have paid a sheriff to collect on the judgment but that hasn't helped and now have been told I need to subpoena banks to find Speedy Rent a Car's bank. Yes, that's right I need to send subpoenas to random banks to get Speedy's bank info. So now I'm searching for a needle in a haystack.
Dealing with them has been total hell and they refuse to pay even after taking them to court. I don't get it?
WHAT THE F, how has this happened to other people? This is ridiculous that companies can operate fraudulently and stay open.
DO NOT RENT HERE!!!! They will screw you for sure! They don't insure their cars so if you don't have car insurance that covers you and you cause an accident you are on the hook as well.
DONT RISK IT – on feb 15th 2010, someone got on the intercom of the park slope food co-op, to let the owner of a car parked outside that he accidentally hooked into the bumper and ripped it off. that car was mine. he was a good guy though, and walked me into SPEEDY CAR RENTAL where he had just returned his rented van, so that me and mark gold (BROOKLYN UNION ST SPEEDY owner) could work it out. mark tried to talk me into using his body shop, but looking around at his hellhole of a shop and his clipped, aggressive demeanor, i knew that would be a bad idea - i opted to exchange insurance info instead. mark jotted down a number for me and i told him i was going right outside to get my info from my glove compartment. in the two minutes it took me to do that, he had his door locked, lights out, and slipped out the back. i had my car fixed at a geico sanctioned mechanic, and geico tried for months to get my deductible back from SPEEDY - as i was legally parked, nowhere near the vehicle, and the car renter admitted full fault, this was a no fault case, and i was to be reimbursed all out of pocket expenses. the speedy claims dept does not answer letters and does not have a working phone mail box - it's a loop that tells you to leave a message, and then tells you the mailbox is full. if you tell mark gold that this is the case, as i did, he will tell you "you have the claims phone number - thats all i can do".
speedy car rental is a dishonest company – on june 9th 2010 a young gentle man in a speedy rental car ran into the back of my camry , the police came and did their leg work. I finally receive the police report and when i call speedy to have them take car of my car they refused, its at least 4 weeks and until this day speedy refuse topay for my repair, First they tell me i must fax the police report which i have done on several ocassion and still have not gotton any response. i went to speedy in person and their response is they cant help me i must call their claims dept, which is a number that rings and one one answers the phione , I am still going through hell because i cannot get through to this fraudulent rent car company. I am telling everyne out there do not do any business with speedy car rentall as they are a dishonest company. which is located at 800 union st park slope.
Vomit and Lies – I made a last minute booking, and boy did I regret it.
Upon opening the door the stench of cigarettes was disgusting ( I thoughts NY had banned that in rentals and I have two kids in the car) and the back seat had dried vomit all over it.
I begged for a different car... anything. They offered me a price reduction and said it was their last car, so I took it.
My credit card statement showed they had not given me any discount, but on phoning they said they would credit me, they could see the error.... 2 weeks later and they are now telling me they already did all the way back in the start, but it was extra tax that made it look like they hadn't. I reversed the credit card transaction !
They banned me.
Never use this lot. Liars and thieves.
Footprints on the hood, roof and trunk – They should not park their cars on the sidewalk
The small savings are not worth the risk – I used to use speedy a lot to transport film equipment and i built up a tolerance to there dirty smelly cars because it was a little cheaper than other van rentals, i even dealt with the vans with so little gas in them you were luck y to get to the gas station to fill up before running out. I got so many empty vans that i started believing that they drain the gas out before they give it to you. I tolerated there nasty counter people, with exception to Michael which was semi friendly and not as curt as the others. I even dealt with changing a flat tire and paying for its replacement because they told me that it is my responsibily " that i ran over something or some bologna ike that". I was a little confused because i knew i didn't run over anything and i assumed it was covered in my insurance but apperently not. I somehow choked all of this down because they were near my home and they usually always had a van for me...until one day when i had one of there vans on a out of town gig and i realized that something was off, i drove nearly 80 miles to my destination and when i got there i had one of my freinds that met me tell me that my tire is extremely low and at closer inspection we noticed that the tires had chunks...YES that is right CHUNKS missing from the tires...one was so low , my friend was amazed that i made it there at all, the threads were extremely low and granted i should have inspected the van before i took it but silly me i thought i would get a van rental that was in proper working order! I ended up filling all the tires up with air, driving really slowly and dropping the van and myself off in one piece - moral of the story, these people don't care about your safety, they worry about making a buck and play hot potato with their vehicles maintenance until some poor shmo is stuck paying for a tire that should have been replaced ages ago. :)
Great company – Reliable car rental with decent cars and low prices. Becuase of this they are always busy, so make sure to get reservation/confirmation numbers and always know who you spoke to.
they are the worst – We've been renting from speedy for years, but in the last couple of years they became more like rent-a-wreck service. We reserved a car for my son's wedding, a 3 hour drive to upstate NY. When my husband picked up car on Fri, it was fitthy, we found an empty container of leftovers with a dirty spone inside the front console, the back door handle was broken and the 92 year grandfather of the groom was unable to open the door from the inside. But more seriously, when driving to the GWB another driver rolled the window and told us that the rear wheel is about to come off. We immediatly drove to the first Gas station and were told that the car was in an accident and the rim was bent causing the tire to loose air and it could have exploded while driving it to NJ. We fixed the rim for $85. We also noticed that the "check" light on the dashboard came on and the mechanic said it could mean engine problems. We decided that it was unsafe to drive the car and got to the first rental car agency we found in NJ. We left the Speedy car in the parking lot of Hertz and got a nice clean in perfect working condition car.
During the entire ordeal we called the union street location and they kept saing that "there is nothing wrong with the car". They claim that it was checked before renting it to us. Upon reterning the car on Monday, we gave them the two bills, one for the repair and one for the Hertz rental that cost us $150 extra. Two weeks later, with many phone calls to Jerry and David they refuse to reemburse us for any of our expences, Furthemore, during a conversation with David, he kept saying "that is a very intersting story you're telling me". When I told him that we had four family members in a car going to our son's wedding and we could have been serously hurt or worse, he said " don't beleive the mechanic, there was nothing wrong with the car". This company is beyond just renting dirty cars, they rent cars that are unsafe and dangerous.
