Touchable fabrics and furs with a hipster edge. – The Scene
In 1996 Lynda Downey quit photography and opened this shop with a small but rich assortment of blankets, pillows, towels and dozens of home accessories. The visual world's loss is the tactile world's gain; fabrics and finishes that beg to be stroked decorate thoroughly modern designs. Bark coexists in a space with Breukelen, a well-matched furniture shop that sells such objects as Lucite tables and handblown lowball glasses.
Luxurious rabbit, goat and cowhide lend character to floor coverings and pillows. A snowy Mongolian lamb pillow, with its tousled tresses, looks like a low-maintenance couch pet. Those textures are complemented by the cool elegance of Egyptian cotton towels, crepe de chine slips and silky white duvets shot through with silver thread. Downey encourages shoppers to touch the merch, though most wouldn't be able to help themselves anyway.
