Wedding Cake Disaster – Ordered a wedding cake in July left a deposit. The wedding is in November. The contract I signed states a 72 hour change to all custom cakes, no mention of deposits not refunded if canceled before that time.

I called to cancel or alter the order with more than two months remaining. They refused to and hung up on me.

That sucks.

Gluten free, organic, and vegan baked goods! – I was diagnosed with Celiac disease about a year ago, and let me tell you, finding a good gluten/wheat free cupcake- damn near impossible.

My best friend whose learning how to bake told me about this spot, said it was well-known amongst the DIY baking community.

Let me tell you how stoked I was to arrive in Chicago, from LA, to attend Riot Fest, and to see the bakery have a booth at the fest!! I ran up to the girl, babbled a whole bunch, and she gave me info. The next day my husband and I trekked through some serious public transit to get to the bakery and I had one of the most amazing cupcakes of my life.

The place is beyond adorable, and the staff were amazing.

They even made some custom made cupcakes that thrilled the band my husband works with. That's how much these girls get it, and just rule all around.

The vegan stuff kicks some serious ass too, my husband loved his vegan smore.

Please open one in every city ladies!!

Organic and vegan desserts have universal appeal at this Roscoe Village bakery. – In Short
A vintage sign for the bygone Philip's Bakery marks this certified organic bakery, which relocated from its digs on Chicago Avenue to a subdued storefront. Inside is anything but subdued, however, as owner Michelle Garcia has fashioned a riotously colorful place with green wood floors, blue walls and whimsical touches as far as the eye can see. The treats are the real appeal, and organic menu reflects the changing seasons (roasted peach and sweet corn mousse cake), an some vegan selections are always on offer. Coffee, toasted egg sandwiches, homemade granola and ice cream also are part of the lineup that's good day or night.

Ugly cake – This past week was my 50th Birthday and I ordered a cake from The Bleeding Heart Bakery.

There were many red flags. I should have known when they were flaky about taking the order. I called the day of the party to check on the cake. While on hold, waiting for the employee to return to the phone, I heard an alarmed ?oh no.? I asked what the problem was and she assured me everything is fine. When my husband showed up, they told him that they forgot to do something and gave him some money back . There was no mention of the problem when I was on the phone with them. He brought home a cake that was fit for a 5 year old girl covered clumsily with pink and purple daisies (and big blobs resembling a rock garden), the upper tier askew and almost falling off, and the butter cream frosting over-whipped and broken. There was not an ounce of fondant on the surface of the cake.

I called the bakery 4 times that day, nobody would return my call. The cake was the laughing stock of the party, with people traipsing down to the basement refrigerator to see how ugly it was, and laughing.

I finally did get a call from the manager on Monday morning, not Sunday as I was told by the 4 calls that I made on Saturday afternoon. She assured me that she wanted to remedy it somehow. I said that the party was over, and I would like a refund on my charge. No response by Wednesday, so I emailed again. Thursday at noon, the manager called me back and said that they discussed it, and since I called their cake ugly, they were unwilling to do anything for me. I listened to her for several minutes, and when I tried to talk, she interrupted me several times. I decided to end the conversation when she called me an ugly person.
