Reviews for Antica Trattoria

Well worth the trip from anywhere in NYC! – I was lucky enough to have moved to the neighborhood in 2008. Unfortunately most of the food joints in Ridgewood are fast-food quality, but I WAS able to find a gem here and there, and Antica Trattoria is at the TOP of my list!

I would have to say that not only is this the BEST restaurant in the immediate vicinity (which admittedly isn't saying much!), but I'd say it's one of THE best Italian restaurants I've been to in NYC!

Every dish I've gotten there (with the exception of the veal parm) was sublime. (The veal parm essentially taste like veal parm from a takeout joint, though the meat itself was of excellent quality.)

But everything else has been perfection! All their dishes with veal cutlet....the veal is extremely tender...not chewy as you'll find at other places.

Their pasta is always perfectly cooked al dente. With their daily meat specials, the sauces they create are out of this world! One time I got a veal chop in a green peppercorn / brandy sauce! Yum!

Their lasagna melts in your mouth. At many other places, the ground meat inside the lasagna can be a bit 'chewy', but at Antica it was not.

Their antipasto freddo (cold) platter is beautiful!...cheeses, meats, and even two sundried tomatoes with a layer of breading in between...sooooo good.

They have an arugula salad with big shavings of parmesan and slices of orange.

Everything...I mean everything I've gotten here (again, with the exception of the veal parm) has been excellent.

If I lived in Manhattan, I would still travel here to eat every now and then. It's THAT good.

As for the ambiance, it's basically like a 'nice neighborhood restaurant'. Nothing super fancy, but nice and warm and somewhat casual....

Excellent – The people at the bar actually spoke Italian. The food was excellent, better than Carmine's - could hold its own against any Italian restaurant in Manhattan.
