Editorial Review for Madonna Inn – by Susan Blue
In Short
The flamboyant pink-and-white inn's exterior is a roadside attraction in and of itself, but the 109 individually themed rooms are equally eye-popping and grand. The most popular room, the Caveman, is typically booked months in advance, but a few other rooms also feature the popular cave-like stone interior walls and waterfall shower. Other themes include Swiss chalets, antique cars, safaris and pioneer cabins. Rooms have basic amenities like hair-dryers and soaps wrapped in pink foil.

We found the Madonna Inn on our journey from San Francisco to LA quite by accident. We had been told about it but really didn't know how "famous" it was! We stayed in one of the rock rooms - very unusual - hard on bare feet - but fun. Comfy bed - great shower but don't drop anything breakable!! We looked around before we left - actually we peeked in windows of the other rooms. We would recommend it, just for the novelty of it, to our friends. It was a bit pricey but I was able to talk them down a bit. Beautiful location and grounds. Fun to see.
Pros: Variety and choice of rooms
Cons: A bit pricey but you pay for the novelty of it.

We were booked into the Caveman room which was absolutely the most unique room I have stayed in. However the waterfall shower was more like two hoses pointing at each other and spraying water in all directions. There was no bottled water available to buy in the room or on the location, no room service and not a tap in sight to even fill a glass with. We booked dinner in the steak house and spent a fortune eating bland steaks and frozen vegetables. The next morning we were woken at 6.45AM by the sound of drilling, sawing and hammering. There is a note at check out saying that there is construction within limited hours but I certainly don't consider 6.45AM limited. When the receptionist asked me how our stay was I told her it was not good, her response was "Oh dear, feel free to take a complimentary postcard on your way out"!!!!! I was so shocked I just left without saying a word.
Pros: Unique rooms
Cons: Everything else!
