Community Comfort and Exquisite Cuisine – My fiancee and I were in town for the weekend before Memorial Day and we were told this was the local spot. We walked into a bustling restaurant and were told we would have to wait for a table and we were warmly invited to the bar by some of the local patrons. We barely ordered our drinks before our table was ready. Awesome. We got the house salad and oysters to start - amazing. I had the sushi (very fresh and well prepared) and my fiancee had the tuna (incredible). The service was great, the drinks were strong, and the prices were reasonable. Why would you not go? (Obviously some of the other reviewers might disagree, but what do you expect if you try to go in before the place is open? Any normal person would wait elsewhere...)
Chowder House – When my family went to the chowder house it was a excellent experience. The food was amazing and the waiter was fantastic. He was a local kid who worked hard and knew his stuff. The only thing that i didn't like was how some people came in to the restaurant and demanded what they wanted. They don't own the place so why should that have the call? We sat out side and watch the boats come in. The fishermen would cut up their catch and entertain the bystanders. The menu had excellent daily specials and sushi that was as fresh as it could get. I would go back to this place any time no matter how long the wait was. And the other review? even tho your daughter has needs what store allows costumers to enter if their not open yet? Some people just don't have patients.
Worst Service I've Ever Experienced – I wish I could offer a review of the food, but we never got that far - that is how bad this restaurant treats its customers. My family was on vacation in Montauk on July 1st, it rained all day, and we were looking for some way to entertain our daughter, a special needs child (Autism). We were taking her to lunch, and had read this restaurant's reviews, and saw that it described itself as a "family-friendly establishment." We arrived at this restaurant at about 11:30 a.m. for lunch, walked her around the docks adjacent, and then into the restaurant. A waiter watched us walk in, we asked if they were open, he stammered, and he said no - they open for lunch at noon. Our daughter sat down, and we asked if we could wait until they were "officially" open (our daughter's disability makes transitions very difficult for her.) The waiter said no again, and my wife asked him, and another staff member, again, explaining that she was a special-needs child - they again said no, saying it was the "manager's policy." They told us to wait outside - in pouring rain, where they had some dirty, rickety chairs lined up. Our daughter screamed, tantrumed, it was several minutes before we could calm her again. We went to a different restaurant, Lenny's, which was extremely accomodating and friendly. It is inexcusable that a restaurant that describes itself as "family-friendly" could take such an unnecessary, rigid, rude position - in this economy, when everyone in Montauk has been talking about how slow the business has been this season - at least, why have the doors open a half-hour before opening, only to kick people out when they walk in? I will never go there again, and urge anyone else to steer clear of this establishment.
