Had a great time! there were only 3 of us and we saw and learned so much about the city. Bloody Mary herself was our guide and she knows her stuff. I can't wait to try another of the tours when I visit again. My voodoo doll is in my car and goes with me everywhere as a reminder of my tour and the fun I had. Pick one and GO!!
Mary is authentic and dedicated, with vast amount of knowledge. She is absolutely for real, and if you're open, or sensitive, you will learn a lot... Definitely worth it.
This was the "All in One" tour. Bloody Mary showed us the whole city and explained the history. We got to see all the highlighted haunted spots/cemeteries, etc. Well worth the price. Voodoo doll making was fun too!!
I really admired the fact that Mary took us to, among other places, Metairie Cemetary. While having fun and sending chills up our spines by inviting us to use our imaginations and participate in local lore, she also gave us an intimate look at a cultural rarity - a cemetary with very few regulations, codes, governmental oversite - this is a cemetary where the poor mingle with the famous and well-to-do. And where the inhabitants and their families are invited to use their decorative imagination. Mary has a deep felt respect for all in the melting pot that is New Orleans and I "take my hat off" to her for her complex, beautiful, and open minded insight. This was a tour I am glad I didn't miss, including many world famous cemetaries of lush New Orleans. She also had the wisdom to have us meet in a down-home Bar for drinks before we set off. What better way to toast the dead and celebrate life!? P.S. this was also a harmless bit of fun, reminding me of my youth, and I highly recommend it.
...then you should go! This was a great tour. A very interesting history about some twisted things that went on in the French Quarter without being even slightly hokey. You get pit stops for drinks, and Jean Lafitte's sets the tone for this tour very well.
We went on Halloween and our tour guide was great! She was very knowledgeable about the history of the French Quarter. She was very polite to everyone and answered everyone's questions. I'd highly recommend the tour. I wouldn't recommend bringing children only because the French Quarter is a little scary at night crime wise however.
We only had the opportunity to do one of her tours, the Cemetery Tour - loved it. It was a bit on the pricey side but fun and interesting nonetheless. We met at a bar, grabbed our to-go drinks and went on our way. She was very knowledgeable and entertaining. We never felt rushed. I hope to make it back again some day to do the other tours. Definitely recommend it.
It was awesome! She picked us up at Lafittes in her van (just my hubby and I and 1 other couple) and took us to 2 cemeteries, and was a wealth of knowledge. We really enjoyed it and it was nice to go to St. Lewis #2. You can't get there by walking, it's far and in a sketchy area. It had such a different feel and look compared to St. Lewis #1. She then took us to Congo square and we made our own Voodoo dolls. Sounded tacky at first, but it was so amazing and I even think my husband liked it. It was so neat to learn the history and differences between these old religions that are so complex and diverse. So happy we did this tour, it was well worth the $.
This was a great tour to learn about New Orleans. The tour guide, Matthew, was very knowledgeable. It was very interesting to learn about the history of different buildings and the spirits that still live within them. This tour led us to many places that the average tourist would not know to go to. What better way to learn about a great party city by grabbing a drink at each place you go. Being too drunk is frowned upon during the tour which is a nice touch so that way you are not interrupted while learning about NOLA
I read many positive reviews of this tour and decided to go with it, over all the others. We were very glad we did. She doesn't advertise, and I didn't see anything promoting her business when we were there. You need to make your reservation online 24 hours in advance to make sure you get a spot. Mary is a descendent of the area and is extremely knowledgeable of the history and many other things, as you will find out during the tour. It was quite remarkable how much information she had to share and knew all the dates about the horrible things that have happened over the years. Her accent was so cute and the time went by very quickly. The tour is 2 hours, but there is a restroom stop halfway through, which was great. Wear comfortable shoes because you walk and stop at landmarks for the entire 2 hour tour. Make sure you dress warmly. It was chilly at night and I was very glad I wore layers. Highly recommended!
