This history-rich restaurant specializes in fresh food served in an antique environment. – The Scene
When you're in the mood for a drive, it's worth seeking out this pre-Revolutionary house in Schoharie County, lovingly restored by owners Ralph and Irmgard Buess and transformed into a restaurant. The home's historical integrity has been preserved though awe-inspiring attention to detail. Thirty dollars is a bargain for a five-course gourmet meal served in what should be a museum.
Chef Ralph presents a brief, ever-changing menu with a $30 fixed-price meal or a la carte entrees for $18. Past favorites have included salmon in puff pastry, chicken and shrimp piccata, and creamy, cognac-enriched veal concasser. Fresh produce is a passion. It may seem corny that the servers are dressed in Colonial garb, but it's done with such sincerity and the service is so attentive that it quickly stops being a novelty.
