I know a certain amount of my friends are going to NOT be happy if they see this review, but I'm sorry...I wasn't impressed by this place in my recent interactions with them, nor have I ever been. There used to be a guy that worked there named Joe who was a knowledgable enough guy, but he never acted overly friendly toward me. I figured maybe that was just his personality. Now, after a recent visit, I know it's the snobby atmosphere that festers there.

I don't find the staff to be friendly at all. Maybe they reserve good customer service for those who are super duper over the top comic book nerds, but to the rest of us "muggles" they are rude. I went in there on a Wednesday afternoon. I was the only customer in the store, which was filled with five staff who were just standing around shooting the breeze. Not a single one came over to ask if they could help me find anything. They did the same thing to me at their table at Albany Comic Con. I was standing RIGHT THERE IN FRONT OF THEM, where they couldn't miss me. There was a brief moment where I was the only customer at the table, and yet again...ignored!

So for the casual comic fan, I would say go elsewhere. If you aren't one of the elite who knows in exactly which issue Spider-man couldn't fight crime because he was stuck home with a crippling bout of diarrhea, then you aren't welcome here. The thing I don't get is...how can you tell a customer is NOT a comic book nerd just by looking at them?

Awesome Shop – I first started playing Magic the Gathering tournements here about a year ago, and I haven't stopped since. I just keep comming back. I love the atmosphere. The owner is an extremely freindly and respectable guy. When I play majic here, I'm able to rid myself of the annoying and overly strict "professional" players and just have a fun time playing the game.

huge selection and awesome discount – Aquilonia has been around since the 1980s which definitely makes it a veteran of the industry. It is a seemingly an ?old school? comic shop, but upon closer inspection you can tell it?s evolved with the times. Their selection of new mainstream and indie comics is HUGE, and their back issue library is probably the largest in the Capital District. Plus they have a large amount of trades and graphic novels always in stock. They also cater to RPG players with a selection of cards for sale as well as having in-store tournaments. On top of that their prices are fair and they offer a very nice incentive to subscribe ? what?s not to like?

NEW COMICS: Aquilonia?s selection of new mainstream and independent comics is huge. Thankfully, they aren?t quick to throw the new issues in the back issue bins, either. I was able to grab up a bunch of comics that were upwards of six months old at cover price that would?ve been back issues at other stores.

BACK ISSUES: It?s amazing how many back issues are available in this store. Having sifted through quite a few boxes I found the overall price range to be fair across the board. However, the majority of their back issues are mostly Modern Age comics. There are a few Silver and Bronze Age comics on display on the walls but serious collectors of the older stuff might not find what they?re looking for here. Regardless, their selection and value is top-notch.

DISCOUNT: Most stores that give a deep discount to their subscribers only apply it to new issues, but here you can buy pretty much anything for 20% off if you?re a subscriber (some restrictions apply, call for details). That would certainly keep their customers loyal when it comes to back issues as well as staying competitive with Borders. I?d definitely be a subscriber to this store if it wasn?t so far away from me.
