Thank God – We Recently moved to Voorheesville, and coming from the city of albany it is tough to grab dinner on the way home. I checked out the tavern back int he spring and to be honest was a little put off by the condition and look of the property. Last night I went on line read the mixed reviews and prepared for the worst ordered a pizza.
I got there a little early so i sat t at the bar, the place was packed, three flat screens over the bar with a mixed selection of what to watch. The bar tender was cute, friendly and mixed a margarita for me that was better than most. i read the menu, did some texting on my phone and the hot pizza landed on the counter. hopped in my car and smelled what seemed to be a good pie for the 8 minute ride home. It was delish! dough was a little thicker than I like but on the menu you can select thinner crust, sausage was yummy little wads of goodness, not that sliced crap most places have gone to, hot cherry peppers, fresh mushrooms and onions. the crust was crispy, the cheese was plentiful and had a great flavor.
I think they could update the specialty pizza selection. the john gray looks gross and to be honest I would not want to be on his diet, if you know what I mean.
Friendly staff and I'm glad we read the mixed reviews and decided that we were going to give the place a shot. It's perfect for all types and when you see a packed parking lot you know it has to be good.
thanks for the great pizza! We will be back
Disappointing pizza – I drove from California, dreaming of the delicious pizza I use to get at Smitty's, when I lived in V'ville. I have to admit I was very disappointed. The dough tasted like like a big old pie crust.
The Fountain's pizza, in Albany, beats them by 3000+ miles.
Families on the go drop by this neighborhood restaurant for great pizza served in a kid-friendly atmosphere. – In Short
City folk craving small-town atmosphere find it here. Formica paneling and model trains characterize this kid-friendly tavern. This spot serves upstate pizza at its best. Feast on the prizewinning Villager, Mexican or white pizzas, or fabricate your own with anything from olives and broccoli to pepperoni and sausage. No Alfredo or Parmesan pastas here, but sandwiches like a grilled Reuben, soups and salads fill the bill for the non-pie crowd.
Had a bad time at Smith's? Look in the mirror. – Smith's is what it is. My usual trip is with kids - for whom there's no better a place. But I've seen Goths and bikers and the fashionable set there, too; they fit in. I see no reason for Smith's to try 'exoctic' toppings on their pizza, but they do, and some swear by the odder ones and the chance to try something different. To my way of thinking it's catering to the type of snots who wrote earlier reviews, and who needs them. V'ville ain't Naples, the crust's kinship to bread is perceptible and the sauce is more hearty than exotic, so it's not going to be at the top of some lists - but it will be at the top of others, and anyone who had a downright unhappy experience there probably generally has unhappy experiences.
Number1 – I grew up there, my father and my uncles got there education there. I now live in NC. Believe me, nothing down here compares. It's the best. Others in the area are real good, but not as good. I'll be home soon after the new year, just to go there and get the best pizza in the capital region. Miis the trains
you are kidding... – the pizza was a wad of cheese on dough...just awful......friendly locals......ha......felt like the scene in easy rider.....we thought we were intruding on some sort of family meeting......and they charge for the second soda......what a dive.....
Smith's? No Way! – Overpriced. Their "Large" pizza is the size of a "Medium". They don't serve a real "Large" size. Totally unremarkable taste. Sauce too acrid. We bought there ONCE, but we'll never buy pizza there again. Basically we got a sour pie, and small portions too, and it was WAY too expensive.
Smith's Stinks........... – Smith's Tavern, was a big disappointment.Their pizza is the worst....It is never cooked all the way, and their pizza sauce is the worst I have ever had!!! This place stinks..
Best Pizza and Beer – There is only one blace for pizza in Albany Area, Smith's Tavern. Once you been there you will not want anyone else's Pizza. It is that good........
