Old School Comic Book Store – If you want to experience a truly ?old school? comic book shop, then Electric City Comics is your store. It?s been around since the early 1980s and is the oldest in the Capital District. This is a store that truly knows the comic book industry inside and out. Their physical size is smaller than the average comic shop, and yet their selection can hold its own. How they manage to cram so much stuff into such a quaint little store still amazes me after all these years.

NEW COMICS: It?s a pretty safe bet that any new comic you want Electric City most likely carries. They sell every title by all the major publishers as well as some of the most obscure indies. In fact, this store probably has the biggest selection of independent comics in the Capital District.

BACK ISSUES: One thing I?ve always depended on Electric City for is their back issues. For a small store, they carry a sizable library of back issues. What?s really impressive is that they have a pretty big selection of Golden Age comics available and at totally reasonable prices, too. As for Modern Age back issues, I find their prices about the same as every other store, although their Bronze Age books tend to be a bit higher. In my experience, Electric City doesn?t budge on their back issue prices except during their annual sale, and even that is rather minimal.

DISCOUNT: I used to be a subscriber when I was growing up in Schenectady, but that was due entirely to the fact Electric City is the only comic book store in all of Schenectady County. Their discount of 10% off new issues and TPBs/GNs in stock for subscribers is decent, but many stores in the area offer deeper discounts on more items. I suppose if I still lived nearby it?d be worth it just for convenience, but those willing to travel can find a better deal. Still, Electric City?s reputation for serving their customers can?t be beat, so comic book geeks in Schenectady wouldn?t be wrong to subscribe through them.
